Post by Jay »

What are your favorite unused songs form Disney films?? I personally love "Proud of Your Boy" from Aladdin and "Someday" from Hunchback. How about you?

Definitely "The Dress That My Mother Wore" from the Cinderella Platinum.

EDIT: Also, if musicals count, "All Good Things Must End" from TLM on Broadway. I listen to that one often. :P

"Dancing on a Cloud" for Cinderella. Does "Beyond the Laughing Sky" count too?

Well, for songs not used in a movie, I'd have to say 'I'm Odd', as sung by the Cheshire Cat.

But if it involved cut versions of songs that made it into the movie, I'd say the extended version of 'Poor Unfortunate Souls', because I felt the middle part of the song might help to convince Ariel that despite leaving her life as a mermaid, she could be with Eric.

Agreed with both.

I also love Silence is Golden, Proud of Your Boy and Why Me from the many deleted Menken songs.

Usually deleted songs are disposable, but these are all pretty good.

Cinderella had multiple good songs not used in the final version. Maybe a theatrical production could put them to good use?

In no particular order...

Beyond the Laughing Sky (Alice in Wonderland)
If You'll Believe in Me (Alice in Wonderland)
Someday (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
As Long As There's a Moon (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
In a Place of Miracles (The Hunhback of Notre Dame)
Never Never Land (Peter Pan)
Never Smile at a Crocodile (Peter Pan)
Call Me a Princess (Aladdin)
Proud of Your Boy (Aladdin)
The Work Song (not to be confused with the mouse version) (Cinderella)
Go to Sleep (Sleeping Beauty)
Riddle-Diddle (Sleeping Beauty)
6/8 Intro (Tarzan)
Snuff Out the Light (The Emperor's New Groove)

Maybe. A theatrical Cinderella with all songs written for it would be interesting to watch. If they ever did that, I'd love for them to bring back the stepsisters' music teacher.

Beyond the Laughing Sky - Alice in Wonderland
I Can't Believe My Heart - Hercules
Snuff Out the Light - The Emperor's New Groove (Kingdom of the Sun)

Most of the unused songs I haven't heard of or only listened to once so my list is pretty limited.

Jay wrote:"Someday" from Hunchback.
Technically, that was used in the end credits for Hunchback.

I'm not familiar with a lot of the deleted songs, but I very much like Warthog Rhapsody, which I thought would have been a better choice for Timon and Pumbaa's number than Hakuna Matata. I mean, "Hakuna Matata" is great and all, but I find that song a tad catchier.

'Keep 'em guessing', planned to be sung by Mushu in Mulan. Love that song! And 'Humiliate the boy', planned to be sung by Jafar in Aladdin.

- "Snuff Out the Light" from The Emperor's New Groove (Kingdom of the Sun version).

- "Proud of your Boy" from Aladdin.

-"Warthog Rhapsody" from "The Lion King".

And I do hope we ever get to hear "You are my Forever".

I haven't heard very many unused songs, but I guess my favorites would be Someday from The Hunchback of Notre Dame - even though I prefer it used as the song for the ending credits, because God Help the Outcasts better suits the scene, but I digress - and If I Never Knew You from Pocahontas.
