"And here's a bit of clarification about Lionsgate's forthcoming Blu-ray Combo release of The Last Unicorn on 2/22 (SRP $19.98). When the film was released on DVD a few years ago, the audio was censored to remove a couple of mild profanities and one image in the film was briefly blurred. The new Blu-ray will be offer the film completely uncensored, but it will also include the edited "family friendly" audio track for those who prefer it. Both the censored and uncensored audio tracks will be DTS-MA 5.1. That comes directly from studio sources (and thank you to those sources!), so fans can rest easy."

With its release to Bluray, I wanted to give people the option on where to buy from.

Conlan Press, current publisher for the author Peter S. Beagle is offering it for sale WITH the addition of having Peter S. Beagle personally sign your copy. You can either have just sign his name or for $5 more, have him personalize it.

Costs are:
$20 for unsigned
$30 for signed
$35 for signed and personalized.

Each signed copy will be signed in 4 places: Slipcase, cover, and both discs.

Currently, if you purchase it at any retailer, Beagle will not see any of that money. In other words, he won't be paid for his work. If you purchase direct from him, he gets over half the price, so he can keep on publishing. Including things like the sequel stories to TLU and the graphic novel/comics.

So support the author, purchase direct: http://www.conlanpress.com/index.html

Dude! The first thing on my mind was whether or not Mr. Beagle would be seeing any royalties, good to know where I can buy it from so he does. :)

"As many of the people reading this already know, Peter has been horribly cheated by Granada Media, the English company that owns the film. For years they have (incorrectly) claimed that The Last Unicorn has never made a profit, and therefore they don't have to pay Peter his contractually-due share of the film's income. " ~source

And the second thing on my mind was the audio editing, thanks to the concerns of our friendly Walmarts. So glad to know the unedited version is an option. :D

Yeah same here on both counts!

"Family friendly" such utter bullshit really. It amazes me they edit out a few "damns" but leave in all the boobs.

I am surprised the same people who forced edits on TLU didn't force "Hell" out of Sleeping Beauty and THOND.

Also want to say, yeah for Peter's commentary!!! I cannot wait to listen to that. And a making of documentary!!

Picked this up today at Wal-Mart for $15. While the video is still quite grainy it's the best the film has ever looked. The worst scene is actually the opening shot of the forest, but it gets loads better once the characters come on. The real reason to get this is the audio. The film's soundtrack sounds amazing here.

Note: To play the uncensored version of the audio you need to go to "set up" and change it because it plays the "family friendly" version as it's default.
