A little bit of everything- easy on the repeats (I don't really want people to have to watch the same episode of a show twice in one day, or twice in one week- same thing with movies). But, no live-action shows made after Adventures in Wonderland. As as for 90's to new-millennium movies... Very lite on those.

And cartoons would run throughout the day, with a heavy dose of all the shows they used to run from the 80's to the mid-90's. I guess there would be some kind of a theme of a movie every night.

They can mix it up a bit, though. When I was younger, they would air older shows like The Flintstones, The Jetsons and Tom & Jerry, alongside newer ones like Dexter's Laboratory, Animaniacs and Are You Afraid of the Dark. I don't recall anybody complaining about that.
Oddly, Catoon network still airs Tom and Jerry oldies while Boomerang has dabbled in newer shows like "The Batman".

What I'd love to do with the channel is show the Disney animated classics in chronological order. One classic airs every evening except Saludos Amigos and The Three Cabelleros share an evening because SA is only 42 minutes. Add the latest films (The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh) to the order when they've been out on home release long enough.

I have given up on the idea of a better Disney Channel, Disney doesn't care about us because we're not going to buy the semiannual soundtrack of the annual season of the flavor-of-the-week sitcom. I kind of hope it backfires by losing all the credibility and legacy they once had just so the start making an actual effort again.

Funny thing is, the crowd that enables Hannah Montana and Camp Rock will be buying their kids whatever Shrek sequel or Dora The Explorer DVD special is out for their kids, they hardly care for quality now and they won't mind showing their kids cheap, babysitting videos. The true fans will without a doubt be buying their classic titles for their kids on whatever format is relevant in that future, so it will backfire somehow.

As for my ideal Disney Channel, I would like less sitcoms, but not in a "I want them all gone" way, because that's unrealistic and they do have their audience, just have them reduced to one or two and have them be at least be Sabrina The Teenage Witch and Sister Sister quality where the cheese is present but are still humorous and less generic. Must have blocks. This free-for-all "I'll air Hannah Montana, now Sonny With a Chance, now Suite Life, and see what I want to air tomorrow" is just confusing. If I had my way, I at least would have four different Hannah Montana episodes and be done with the show for the day. I actually love High School Musical, have DCOMS that at least show some kind of effort and can become memorable unlike Hatching Pete and Dadnapped would be good.

Disney animated classics airing regularly. The Lion King today and The Little Mermaid some time soon. Pixar movies here and there, but mainly canon. Have a monthly (more if possible) Disney Surfer-esque show on the upcoming theatrical release, and have it run for at least thirty minutes. I wouldn't stand opposed to promoting Hollywood Records signed artists (I can't stand the majority but it would spice up the channel) by airing concerts every once in a while, and they wouldn't have to be too elaborate like Hannah Montana: Best of Both Worlds Tour, The Jonas Brothers 3D Experience, or Never Say Never if the musical act isn't too established. I seem to remember Disney airing a Britney Spears concert that was filmed in one of their parks. That reminds me: have the parks play some part in the channel sporadically.

I love that they aired The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. They have hardly shown it but it was definitely a step in the right direction. I would love if they aired Pirates of The Caribbean, Prince of Persia, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice some time in the afternoon. I would love if they took on a more gutsy take on their shows, may in the form of a Kim Possible-like live-action show, or even a cartoon based on the young Black Sparrow novels.

Having tween based shows wouldn't be so bad if they aired other kinds of programming.

Now I know Disney would never get rid Of their kids shows and when the shows that are on now end, Disney just makes new ones with about the same plot (3-4 main best friend stars, a single not to smart parent, one kid is dumb and rich or mean and rich, the main star has a talent being able to sing, dance, act, etc., and though these shows are ALWAYS about the normal Kid at school the truth is non of them are normal (super star at night with wig and normal high school girl by day, wizards, a teen on a hit tween show, living on a boat). Now I watch most of theses shows that are on disney and like most of them, but Disney does not need to air reruns over and over again. Right now they show 2hr blocks from 2-4 every weekday and some times they will air the same episodes in one week and they keep airing the same have a laughs over and over (never airing the full versions, just the edited short versions) what I would like Disney to do is for ONE night from 8-10pm (maybe Saturday, no new Disney channel shows air that night and Disney has had trouble getting good ratings on that night) air old and classic tv shows, movies, shorts, specials, and more. Every Saturday night would be different maybe one Saturday goof troop, a Disney park special, and some black/white and colored shorts ( Oswald, Mickey, goofy, etc ) and the next Saturday air a Disney classic movie Fantasia, than the following saturday air Dumbo, bonkers, and darkling duck. Now what Disney would love is they would get a new/different audience and disney could advertise their kids/tween shows heavily. One last thing I think the 2hr block should have cool name like DisneyReloaded.

Hallmark is airing classic disney movies today (not sure what they aired earlier, but Swiss Family Robinson just got over). They are now airing the ORIGINAL Parent Trap, which disney has not aired in years.

So, I want Disney channel to take a cue from Hallmark and air some walt era movies, not remakes.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

The old grouch in me now considers The Disney Channel "damaged goods." The tweens can have it; it's theirs.

I'd like to see Disney start a new channel for adults and families, though. Kind of a mix between the old Disney Channel, MGM-HD and Turner Classic Movies, complete with hosts introducing the movies. A channel that would strive to highlight Disney's entire theatrical and television history, while continuing the all-but-lost tradition of family entertainment.

I don't mind the stuff that is now on in the afternoon/mornings for the young kids. But seriously I wish they'd bring back Vault Disney I mean growing up that was what my parents and myself did on Friday nights. Zorro an Episode of The Mickey Mouse Club and whatever movie was being televised.

In some ways, ABC Family has become the new "Disney Channel". They seem to play Disney movies much more frequently than the Disney Channel bothers to do anymore. And why else did Snow White make its TV debut there last year, and as of yet still hasn't aired on The Disney Channel?

Basically what it was from 1997-2002:

Playhouse Disney (6am-12pm)
Zoog Disney (12pm-9pm)
Vault Disney (9pm-6am)

And available in Canada too.

Semaj,

Disney Channel aired Snow White last summer, not long after ABC Family aired it.

They also aired Beauty and the Beast right before Christmas.

they need to redo Disney Junior....I was curious and looked up what the morning schedule was for tomorrow (Monday) morning.....and i saw Mickey Mouse Clubhouse was scheduled FIVE times....

They've cut down the movies considerably which I think is more harmful than good. They just do repeats of the same show over and over.

And I am sick of their shake it up! marathons.

Move all the 'tween, teen and pop shows over to ABC Family under their own full-time brand distinct from classic Disney.

Back on the Disney Channel - - Whatever current kids and family fare shown during the weekdays, devote the full weekend, and especially all day Sunday (traditionally associated with Wonderful World of Color, etc) to classic Walt Disney era animation, film and TV programming, not confining it to fringe time periods, so new generations can become familiar with the classic assets, characters, stories and ideas.

Let Saturday Mornings bring back the 80s and 90s animated shows and movies (Duck Tales et al).

Also integrate the classic animated shorts and series throughout the week and strip the Mickey Mouse Club and Zorro like the old pay Disney Channel.

Tone down the noisy, frantic aspect of DC and run all movies complete without breaks and all classic cartoons uncut.

If only you were in charge, Merlin! ;)

Yes, I agree with Merlinjones, the OP, and all others who miss Vault Disney and Walt-era programming.

I especially would love to get Walt's anthology series and live-action films back on the air. This would create more exposure for them with new generations and create more demand for DVD releases. And since very few of the anthology episodes have ever been released on DVD, airing them would be a way for people who like them to at least be able to enjoy them.

And I would also love to see the classic animated shorts and featurettes, live-action featurettes, Zorro and original Mickey Mouse Club back on the air as well!
