Yeah, I also think the color scheme is great (the only good thing about it), it sums the movie perfectly. Actually I wouldn't hate that cover so much if it weren't for Nala, the animals looking at other direction and Mufasa's scanned image from the soundtrack, but they have plenty of time to change those things, I hope they do it.
The worst is still the vertical logo, I really hope every language this movie's title is translated has an "O".

That looks very classic and clean! I know some people aren't a fan of the "floating heads," but I can live with that, I just hope they go back to horizontal titles, or at least don't stick to only doing them vertically from this point on.
When I was at MovieStop today we got a Disney calendar,a nd under October it had Lion King, and the picture that was used should have been the Blu-Ray cover.
This is the Finnish VHS cover, but it had this cover art with the original American VHS logo. I honestly think that cover would have been much better than that cover we did get.
Disney is awesome, and was the biggest part of my childhood.
So... how much are you willing to bet that the aspect ratio of the Diamond Edition will be 1.78:1, cropped from its 1.66:1 ratio? I mean, even though Beauty and the Beast's PE wasn't its original aspect ratio of 1.66:1 and instead cropped to be 1.85:1, the recent Blu-ray was a little closer to its 1.66:1 ratio, but cropped to 1.78:1.
These look great, but I believe they are Refael's own design. He has been posting some great designs of covers for The Lady and the Tramp and Cinderella in other threads, too.
Looks really good,
I really do not, I designed it and touched it
I brought it directly from Disney Spanish. http://informemosdedisney.blogspot.com/
Could be that someone else touched and played it a bit, but I doubt it, It's really changing the design of Disney (for cleaning)
Easy for me to recognize that this change from the company and from amateur.
The real question really is the case if the final!
That's a million times better! I recognize Nala now!! (though I'm not a fan of the mini Nala/huge Simba concept) and Simba looks better too! and the logo, Oh the logo!, if these covers are real, they've solved the horrible logo problem I had. Now, if only they could fix the animals in the background to actually LOOK at priderock's direction (or are they already leaving? LOL) it would be perfect.
Although... the non-3D edition does look fake, they squashed the artwork for the Bluray logo to fit, pretty weird.

Wow, you're right, I didn't even notice that the characters had been fixed! I hope that we get something similar to this in the US, and not the sideways title that was first shown. It's interesting that the spine still has the previous title design, with "The" in the middle of the "O."
I'm still a bit concerned about what we'll get in the US, as we're getting the sideways Bambi title while most everyone else gets it horizontal. We'll just have to wait and see.
Ya know not for nothing i dont mind the title of the lion king being vertical i think it looks kinda cool other then how it looks on bambi and nala definitely needs a face lift on the official cover
Every single one of the covers shown here are so incredibly awful. Disney is a multi-billion dollar company and this is the best they can do. It's pathetic. I'll be waiting for the steelbook, praying that the artwork is better.
Someone posted what appears to be the fixed US release cover over at Blu-ray.com:
I guess it's official that 2011 is the year for sideways text on Diamond Edition releases. I was wondering if they might change the text, after all the complaints, but I'm not sure Disney necessarily has their finger on the online "pulse." It'll be interesting to see if they continue the trend with the 2012 releases.
I like the cover, but Simba's head needs to be the same size as Nala or insert him on Pride Rock with Rafki, Timon/Pumbaa. And remove "The" from the "O" seems out of place.
Like everybody, I hate the side form, they could've left it just the same, across the cover. It works for Bambi now that I look at it but the letters should be like this
B
a
m
b
i
Oh well they bet'ter not do the vertical down with Lady/Tramp.
