New York Toy Fair 2011

Post by pinkrenata »

The middle of February always holds some excitement for me. Is it because of Valentine's Day? Goodness, no! (Although, pink-ish holidays do bring me cheer from time to time.) The real excitement comes from the fact that this is when New York hosts their annual toy fair in which we get to find out what cool (or not-so-cool) toys will be coming out this year.

Guess what peeps? The toy fair is going on RIGHT NOW!

As far as I can tell, no Disney items have been shown yet, but this is the site I typically follow to get updates and pictures:

(If anybody finds a better site, let me know!)

So far, all they've got is some Hasbro stuff -- we're talking GI Joe, Star Wars, and other things that I don't particularly care about -- but that some of you might like to see.

The Marvel stuff released so far looks pretty sweet, especially the Thor lineup. I may pick up Iron Man and Thor figures at some point, and Deadpool would be more tempting to me if he were standalone.

Hopefully the Disney and Harry Potter stuff isn't too far off. I'm not expecting much from Disney outside of Mickey, Fairies, and the four P's (Princesses, Pixar, Pooh, and Pirates) but I'll be pleasantly surprised if we get stuff from other films (*cough*AliceinWonderland*cough). Then again, something I've noticed is that Disney has pretty much stopped doing action figures for animated films. We still get them for Pixar films and certain live-action ones (Pirates), but WDAS films don't seem to get them anymore. For those we only get either PVC figurine sets, dolls, or plushies. The only Disney animated features that come to mind that have gotten an action figure lineup in the past 10 years are Atlantis and Meet the Robinsons. It kind of sucks because I was looking forward to having a Flynn Rider action figure. Ah, well.

As for Harry Potter, I hope they announce a gargantuan Hogwarts playset. I've been waiting on getting the Lego one till the series is complete since with every film, they release a new Hogwarts castle that has added features from that particular installment. If they release an already-made (or easy-to-build) Hogwarts castle designed for the action figures, though, I'll nab that in a heartbeat. Let's see.

I don't think Lego will have a set that includes all the Hogwarts castles...that would be too expensive. I collected the old Hogwarts Lego sets and each set is a different part of the castle. This new Hogwarts set however is a new version of the first castle. Originally I was not going to get it, but now I am so tempted to because one: it is so much more beautifully built and the way they have each attach and hinged to each other was something I wanted to do with my old castle. And two: there will be a set called Battle for Hogwarts and now looking at the wiki page for it, it looks to be just two towers and steps which could be added just as an entrance to the castle! Unfortunately this will not go well with my old castle design wise so I will have to get the new castle http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/4867_Hogwarts
