Billy Ray Cyrus regrets "Hannah Montana"

Post by Disneyphile »

In a shockingly candid GQ interview, Billy Ray Cyrus slams Hannah Montana, the smash Disney series that catapulted his daughter Miley Cyrus to the spotlight.

"It destroyed my family," says Cyrus, who split from wife Tish last year and says he is no longer speaking with his 18-year-old daughter. "I'll tell you right now -- the damn show destroyed my family ... it's all sad."

Funny how it takes him until after the show is over, and he's no longer collecting their paychecks, to realize that it's to blame for everything bad in his life.

I regret Disney producing Hannah Montana, too.

Ouch... never thought it'd cause the family to be driven apart. :(

Disney's disposable tween shows and the tweens growing up to be losers is starting to become a poor reflection on their family programming.

When I saw the topic title, I already had a snide little comment made up, but after reading that interview, I do feel genuinelly bad for him, and I sincerely wish him and his family the best.

But I will say this is a textbook case of why you should never put your children in show-business.

Love Hannah Montana, but that's not what I'm here to talk about.

It's seriously his and Tish's fault that Miley's had scandals. They let her run wild. Sure, it may be the Hollywood scene that influenced her bad choices, but they have every right to ground her, not let her go to bars, etc. Where is the responsibility, Billy Ray???

Miley Cyrus is just another stupid young performer doing anything she can to shake the perception and image that comes with being associated with Disney. If she needs any deterrent to prove that such a thing is completely self-destructive she simply needs to look at Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.

Yeah. I was ready to shout something along the lines of "lol, like, we all are!", as Sequel/Poody/Sotiris did (which, to clarify, isn't exactly snide, and I was attempted to post "me three" :p). But I'm shocked at what an awful time the Cyruses are going through. Reading the actual GQ article in particular made me feel rather sad. This whole affair is frankly a morality tale, and I only hope this prompts Disney to stop creating these teen stars destined to spiral into chaos.

This really makes me feel bad for them, as much as I hate Hannah Montana. But I really think that Miley should grow up, and not in the way she currently is. She's 18 now, she should be able to make good decisions, and act responsibly. Miley should really take a good look at what has happened to her family, primarily because of her.

One more reason why shows like this need to go away. The Disney channel needs to be about Disney again.

I would say I feel bad, but I really don't and can't be bothered to read the article.

Good upbringing starts from the home whether or not you become a star. It's his fault as much as it is his wife's, Disney's, Hollywood's and Miley's. Too bad you followed the money trail and let your daughter loose.

Didn't Miley just steal a necklace or something? Oh wait... that was Lindsay Lohan.

Oh, wow! I regret Disney having to make "Hannah Montana" as much as the next overzealous fan, but I never thought that it would destroy the family! I actually feel disappointed by this.

Maybe now Disney will rethink its myopic obsession with tweens and actually revive the Mickey Mouse Club, among much else! And no, I'm not talking about the 1990s version, but the old 1950s version!

Okay, rant over.

Well, this isn't the first time a cast member working on a TV show/movie regretted working on something. Heather Ripley only starred in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and it was pretty stressful with her, because the only kids she ever had as playmates on set were her co-star Adrian Hall and this local little girl who lived nearby. Not to mention during production, her home was a little far from the set and her parents went through a divorce.

HAHA, OMG! Oooooh, so now, he's complaining! Seems like yesterday he was praising Miles for lap-dancing a 44 year old, now he's crying over Miley, being the next Britney Spears! A little too late, darlin' and thanks for the laugh!

I can't imagine anyone still cares about this horrid family. Excuse me if my ackey-breaky heart is cold as ice, but I don't see why I should raise sympathies for him. You chose to put your child(ren) in showbusiness, the Disney corporation no less. Not exactly a flawless trackrecord when it comes to child stars. Yes Miley is effed up, and will probably continue to be effed up for the rest of her life. Lesson learned...? No, I'm sure the little sister with her clothing line (with clothes scarily similar to stripper outfits) will follow Miley's footsteps right into showbiz. He may not get any commission from Miley --which I find hard to believe btw-- but he still put his 14 year old daughter in the hands of a corporation.

She sucks at acting too, so thanks also for spamming up the Disney Channel with her presence.

He's not the only one.

This man needs to shut up. Seriously, first whoring out both your daughters, filling your pockets at their expense and then say you 'regret' it? What a hypocritical asshole. :x

I'm not blaming Miley or her little sister. I feel sorry for them. I don't have any sympathy for Billy Ray.
