Maureen O Hara...
From Imdb...
Nicknamed Big Red, known for her ability of athletic prowess that other women wouldn't even attempt.
I swear I saw an Adam's Apple. Very deep voice.
Something about the eyebrows and the clown makeup that reminds me of Divine.

First, since she was a woman full time (as far a my or anybody else's knowledge, because it would probably be more known if she really was a man), she would be transgender or transexual. A transvestite is a man who sometimes dresses as a woman for a variety of reasons, but still fits the social gender role of a man (More or less..look at Eddie Izzard for example, though he may be a very mild example). Just wanted to clear that up.
Second, as the posters above me, no, at least not to my knowledge, she was not a transvestite, or transgender, but rather a natural born woman and an astounding actress.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think so, but it some of her mannerisms made me curious.
I've tried to find pictures on the net of the scene that initially piqued my curiousity, but I haven't been able to.
She is wearing some sort of pant suit outfit that I initially thought had shoulder pads, but didn't.
Not trying to mean, or belittling here. Some of the harshness of the tones in her hair color and makeup could probably be attributed to technicolor.

Read her autobiography a few years ago, great actress and great career - I'd recommend it.
Anyway.... Yeah go back to her earlier movies like the original Miracle on 34th Street. Definitely a classic Hollywood beauty. I can't actually believe this thread is serious....
I live in Cork, Ireland and both she and Angela Lansbury live in towns nearby.
Lansbury has a holiday home in a nearby town whereas O'Hara has a more permanent residence. She actually attended a film festival in Cork back in November but I never got to see her.

Pretty much the only reason to leave this up / open is for "Think You've Seen Everything at UD? Think Again" shock value of it. I even think a few people here might owe Jackoleen an apology right about now.

Maureen was and is a truly amazing icon, as well as having amazing genes. Here is a pic of her from early last year:
Not looking her 89 years at the time at all.
As for the person who started this thread grow up!

I adore Maureen O Hara.. but I just don't see how skippy wondering if she was a transvestite is in any way insulting to her or any of her fans. Skippy was simply asking an honest question he had while viewing one of her performances.a-net-fan wrote:OH I love Maureen O Hara! I really was very put off by the title of this thread until I starting reading all the different contributors posts.
Maureen O"Hara was born Maureen FitzSimons in August of 1920. She is a natural redhead and her movie career is one of the most fulfilling of a female actor.
Some of my favorite films include:
How Green Was My Valley (1941)
Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
The Wings of Eagles (1957)
Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation (1962)
McClintock! (1963)
The Rare Breed (1966)
Big Jake (1971)
along with all of the other films other people have noted. She is a wonderful actress and how anyone could ever mistake her gender is beyond me.
