(Similarly inaccurate is Cinderella's flaming red-orange hair in the recent digital restoration - - though it shifts from scene to scene, overall she should be more a neutral dishwater strawberry ash blonde.).

Her....what? I never noticed a hint of flaming red in her hair.

This is flaming red hair.


Not even the Weasleys in the Harry Potter movies have that(as the books claim they have Flaming Red Hair)

Some quick thoughts:

- I like the new color scheme, although it does look a little too boosted in a few spots
- I'm happy they're using the old Blu-Ray cases with the indented Blu-Ray logo on the top again, they're much classier
- The Thru the Mirror short looks gorgeous. Finally, an actual restored in high definition short after all those unrestored up converted Silly Symphonies we were getting on Snow White and Beauty and the Beast. Only downside is - as Kelvin mentioned - the new title card.
- I like the menu, it looks so much nicer than the Beauty and the Beast one. No annoying dub over and no horrible looking CG backgrounds. Only problem is it can take some time to navigate.
- The Thru the Mirror short on the accompanying DVD is unrestored, complete with original title card. Just like how the feature film, Alice in Wonderland, is a different transfer. I guess that gives people options (for those who don't like the new colors or replacement title card).
- 'Through the Keyhole' was great but would've worked better had the movie not been playing along side it. I just found the movie distracting when we're being presented with soo much information and rarely does what they're discussing actually have to do with what is happening in the movie.
- When they discussed the Gryphon and Mock Turtle in 'Through the Keyhole' it made me wish they would've included the Jell-O commercial.

- Gallery took exactly one minute to load (yeah, I timed it). Lacked any kind of publicity materials (if you know me, you had to know that was coming sooner or later) or art for cut characters/sequences
- 'The Pig and the Pepper' deleted scene, was not really a deleted scene, but just an excerpt from the 1938 Al Perkins/David Hall version. This just made me wish that they would've pulled all their resources together and remade the 1938 Al Perkins/David Hall leica reel, instead of just one little scene. David Hall's illustrations exhibited such energy and had such scope, I just would've loved to see more.

That pretty much ends my 'quick thoughts' as I've now been through the whole disc, some of the supplements I even viewed twice. BTW, did anyone else feel that John Tenniel/David Hall's illustrations looked like something that could be in a Miyazaki movie? The big headed Dutchess looks similar in style to Yubaba, not to mention the pigs and talking frog. I feel as though Spirited Away is Miyazaki's take on Alice in Wonderland, just as Ponyo was his take on The Little Mermaid. I feel as though Spirited Away is Miyazaki's take on Alice in Wonderland, just as Ponyo was his take on The Little Mermaid. I don't remember that in Disney's movie, only Spirited Away. Was that only in the Alice books?

Believe it or not but every Walmart in a 50 mile radius of me did not get this in stock. My local Kmart had it on Tuesday but when I called on Wednesday they were out. My luck isn't looking up....I may have to resort to ordering this online as much as I hate ordering Disney movies online. I'm picky about the condition of the package and slipcover and I won't be able to use my nice and shiny coupon.

That's a shame. The only thing I would suggest is that if you do decide to order it online, maybe wait until the day after the coupon expires. You never know, one of your local stores might get another shipment in while the coupon is still good. I don't remember when the coupon expired, but I think it was good for the week following release day?

At least we know that this new edition is selling relatively well, even though it seems like a lot of stores simply started out on release day with fewer than usual copies.

I'm not sure what Disney's expectations on this release would be, it being only the 2nd (after Fantasia) non-Platinum/Diamond classic DAC release on Blu-ray. I'm hoping it does better than expected and ushers more non-Diamond classics onto the format. However, I'm in no rush, so I hope they take their time and put the same attention-to-detail into each release as we've seen done so far.

I just finished watching the film last night, and the restoration was done very well. I haven't checked out the special features yet but I look forward to doing that next.

Alice always was a bit trippy, Milk Buds or not. And I kinda like the idea of Alice in Scotland.

Anyway, I get the impression that stores aren't keen on stocking Disney Blu-rays that aren't new releases (in that they've already been readily available on DVD). The Monsters Inc. combo pack was incredibly difficult to find on release day, for example; as I scoured the city (and I live in Vegas, a big city!) it was easy to find the old DVD release but many, many stores didn't bother carrying the new Blu-ray. In fact it only looked like one Best Buy in the entire city had any copies at all. Come to think of it, the local Walmarts didn't carry the Blu-ray version of the Fantasia set either but that's not a high-demand title to begin with.

Since another DVD version of Alice just came out, I was worried about being able to find the new release. Luckily the closest Best Buy had a small stack of copies, but it was nothing compared to what a brand-new release might be (like when Tangled comes out, I'm sure there will be stacks and stacks of Blu-rays in addition to the DVDs). Regardless, it's a shame that the sales of certain titles are being underestimated to the point that fans have to worry about whether or not they'll be able to find a copy in time for the coupon.

Oh, and when it comes to Alice's hair color? I found this Mary Blair scan from a Japanese book, and it seems pretty saturated:

I get what you're saying, but it's really difficult to judge any original colors according to not only the printing process, but the scanning of said printing process. That particular one just happened to pop out at me so I thought I'd share it.

And wow, I saw what the Japanese book is going for.

My local Walmart didn't receive any copies on release day either. I found about a dozen copies at Best Buy on the same day.

Even though Kmart said they were sold out, I had my mom check there anyway and they had 2 copies left. It was $29.99 so I ended up paying $19.99 for it with the coupon. I still wonder why no Walmarts in my area got it. Maybe the truck was late or something. They didn't get any copies but they did seem to get BHC2.

I've only watched the first 5 or so minutes and I'm already impressed. It looks awesomely awesome!

"They" meaning the restoration team, not the original artists and filmmakers? Mary Blair WAS the color stylist on the film.
