NOTE TO
TheSequelofDisney:
Nowhere did I say that you had to be 25 to enjoy the show, I am just saying that if you read what it was all about before it premiered on Fox, then you would know that its prime audience is the 13-25 group of males and females. I am sure there are a lot of viewers over the age of 25 who watch the show.
As for your comparison of "Glee" to the Musical Motion Pictures of Hollywood's hayday, you are truly barking up the wrong tree. I love musicals, and am proud to say that I have over a hundred of them in my collection. What I was saying was that when FOX originally announced the show, they said it was about a High School Glee club that was striving for perfection and entering the state championships for Glee clubs. It said nothing about the fact that it was going to be a 'musical' television series.
Do you really think that I am that off-base? I hope not, because I can run circles around most of those people who defend this show as being the "best thing on television". This is not THE BEST, but ONE of the best shows on television. It consistently has good ratings, and will, unfortunately, still be on for the next couple of years. Let's see what happens when these '30-somethings' graduate from High School and a whole new cast comes in.
My criticism of the way they just break into song is very solid. If they are listening to their MP3 player or iPOD, or whatever, they break into song and it just so happens that the whole school yard, class room, wherever they are, can break into song and dance at the same time. If you go to school, does your school have an orchestra that follows you around to back you up when you decide to sing a lyric or a whole song? That's what I am saying about the show.
If they promoted the show as a 'first rate High School musical' with a little drama on the side, I would probably give it a chance again. But they don't. And on Tuesday night there are a lot of other shows with higher ratings than "Glee" that are on, so someone isn't just watching "Glee". I watch "No Ordinary Family" which is on ABC at the same time as "Glee", and record "NCIS" which is on at the same time as "Glee". To each his own on what a person likes or dislikes on television.
I am just bold enough to put it out there that "Glee" is not realistic enough to be believable and aside from Jane Lynch, whom I adore, there isn't too many things going for this show that make me want to watch it exclusively over other television shows that are on at the same time.
I borrowed the season one DVD's from a friend so I could watch the show from the very beginning. I still can say that I am glad that there are other shows on at the same time as "Glee".
