I wouldn't know, but having seen so many 'behind the scenes' and 'making of' on the dvd's, he really comes across as a really friendly guy. Now you could say that's because they have to make good publicity for Disney, but he -and Andreas Deja- have a sense of kindness that none of the other animators have. Not saying I know those others, but... I dunno, maybe it's charisma?

RodryCroft wrote:Hi guys!!!!!!!!! Today I saw Glen Keane on a spanish TV channel and I died! I've searched some info very quickly and I find the hotel where Glen, Byron Howard and Nathan Greno are staying (Here in Madrid), so I called a friend and ran right there, just to ask someone.
No one from the hotel knows nothing (as usual) and we stayed there like an hour, watching my Disney books I've brought there.
Then I saw a woman with a Tangled notebook and when I looked up there was GLEN KEANE!!!!! Just in front of me!!!! I was frozen saying "Glen?? GLEN??!" And he "hi, how are you?" coming closer!!
Well, they were surprised when I told them we were there waiting for an hour and the woman ask them to leave, then Nathan Greno said "No no, if they have waiting for an hour, we can stay a little more".
They all were sooo kind!!! Very nice!! They sign my copy of The Art of Tangled, take a lot of photos with us.... =DDDDD I'm so happy!! I though I'd never have the honor to meet Glen Keane!! =D

And the funniest part: I told Glen I went to New York only to see Tangled, and he got a very very surprised expression and told me "Oh my god! Did you like it?!" And I told him that I love it, then Glen said "Uff! Thank god! If you had not liked the film we would have to kill us!" (Or something like that) xDDD
Wow, that's awesome, RodryCroft! I would have been a mess if I looked up and Glen Keane was standing in front of me (or Byron Howard or Nathan Greno, for that matter).

I know we tend to distrust facts sourced from Wikipedia, but according to the Wiki article at the link below, Tangled is the 2nd most expensive movie ever made - not adjusted for inflation, and the 5th most expensive movie ever made when adjusted for inflation!

Take a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mo ... sive_films

Not sure if this was already known or not, but I thought it was interesting. I knew Tangled was expensive, but I didn't know it topped the lists in Hollywood!

And it's ridiculous how its budget can be so high! :(

I know! I mean, it's been in development for a lot of time now, but I still am shocked. I guess it was all the animation tests and that cool oil painting CGI that would have made Tangled look really unique.

Just click the link to find out?

You guys are really having a hard time grasping this, huh? Tangled was EXPENSIVE AS HELL. Much more expensive then we will ever know, because Disney is not stupid enough to tell everyone the truth about what it really cost. It has been in development on and off since the MID 90s. That's a LONG TIME.

Every piece of animation, with exception of paying for the talent involved, is more expensive than making a live-action film. That's probably why Pirates 3 is the only one more expensive than Tangled, because Johnny Depp probably took in about 3498723109 million dollars for that film.

I can easily see how Tangled might be so costly if you include all the years of production time in which they changed their minds about things several times and probably made a dozen different demos with different technology.

In the animation community, Glen is considered by many as the "best living animator." His animation is technically spectacular and brings life to his characters that other top animators can't accomplish. He animated Ariel, Beast, Pocahontas, Tarzan, John Silver... among others. He was the "Animation Director" on Tangled, meaning that basically all the CG animators brought their work to him, and he would draw on top of it in the computer to make it better.

His work on top of what you said about charisma makes him an inspiration to just about every animator out there.
