Fantasia: 2-Movie Collection - 11/30/10 (Part 2)

I noticed the pre-order for Fantasia 2000 on Amazon, but what about a standard DVD release of Fantasia?? I can't play Blu-Ray, so I want the normal DVD editions!!

Well, for the record, Fantasia by itself has both the Blu-Ray and DVD edition bundled together, and is available in either DVD packaging or Blu-Ray packaging.

I expect that we'll find a similar set-up with Fantasia 2000 as well. It is rather annoying (aka a rip off) that the two-movie pack in the UK only contains the Blu-Ray editions, though.

Also, the art cards in that image are exclusive to HMV stores, so if you're interested in them, then go there.

Ah! So if buy the Double Play (in DVD packaging) I'm good to go? What I mean is, are all the content of the Blu-Ray discs duplicated on the DVD in the pack? I'd held off buying it as I wasn't sure if the extras were on the Blu-Ray disc only!

There is no motivation for some people to convert when there is a DVD edition. I picked up a Blu-Ray player in Tesco for £49.97 today (That has multi-region capabilities through a remote command), it's quite honestly brilliant and shows that price is no longer an excuse not to upgrade.

But for me there is little point in upgrading since I don't have an HD TV in my bedroom and my DVD player is in great working order. So spending £50 on a new player is a waste of money, which I'd sooner spend on DVD's.

Also most of the stuff I buy on DVD is old TV shows, whose quality is not really good enough to make it to HD disc! Not releasing something on DVD and only on Blu-Ray just won't get me to upgrade. I'd sooner just skip the release for now and then buy it later on Blu-Ray (or the next new thing they come up with ) when I have upgraded to HD through my old equipment breaking down.

Think I'll pass on Fantasia for now and come back to that one later on. I just hope we get proper DVD releases for The Lion King later this year!!

To select what region you want:

1) Open the disc tray
2) Press setup
3) Key in 9113
4) On the left hand of the screen an additional "configure" menu should appear that allows you to select the DVD region and Blu-Ray region

Best £50 I've spent in a long time, loads discs just as fast as my PS3.

I am tempted to get one of these. I get paid on Friday, only thing is I've got a Disney trip looming in March.

But, I was really hoping that the new Dances with Wolves disc would be region free and I was gutted when I found out it was region locked.

There is an english friendly german 2-disc edition with both movie cuts available for years!

Well, if they had done it as a 4 disc pack over here, I would have expected prices to be closer to £30, so you could equally say that it's unfair to charge more for those of us who have Blu Ray for the 2 movies and a pair of coasters.

and blackiecat, BD-Live is the online stuff. Virtual Vault i BD-Live, and many blu-ray exclusive games use connectivity.

It is indeed the Roadshow (original) cut. The only differences from the original release, as far as were told, are:

1. Deems Taylors voice, which has of course been over-dubbed because portions of the original interstitials had been lost.

2. Censorship edits in the Pastoral Symphony.

Extra Features aside, this is a wonderful product that surely couldn't have been presented any better. The above differences can't be helped. For Taylors voice, it makes no sense having two different voices during the film, though as others have suggested, Disney maybe could have included portions of it in the Extras for interest. For the censorship, their is little argument. Disney, with great power, also require great responsibility, and they're certainly not going to damage the glowing reputation of 'Uncle Walt' with a black chick in a cartoon.

I don't see what's wrong with separate SKU's, it's not like Disney is a small company that can't afford to have DVD, Blu-Ray, Double Play and Triple Play versions all out at once.

I didn't mean that comment as an insult to DVD buyers. I was quite happy with DVD for many years.

But, I now have a PS3, a Blu Ray equipped laptop, and soon to have a standalone multi-region Blu Ray player, so I really don't have any need for DVD copies - they are effectively coasters to me.

Thank you miniroll, but what is the "theatrical cut" that I heard is different from the roadshow cut?

By the way, some of us also thought of keeping Deems Taylor's original voice in, and just getting a very good impersonator to record the missing lines.

It's not arrogant. It's more insulting to be called arrogant just because you have the opinion that you don't want to be forced into buying a product you don't want. Not only is the DVD useless to me, but it's also a waste of resources to produce DVD's which are not being used.

I don't have a problem with Disney still producing DVD's where there is a demand for it, but that doesn't mean that Blu Ray customers should be forced into buying a DVD edition along with their Blu Ray. Companies should be looking to conserve resources.

I only hope that once Blu Ray has become the dominant format, we will start to see the double play editions phased out.

Look at it this way. When DVD replaced VHS, we weren't given a VHS tape along with all the DVD's we purchased. Blu Ray is a separate format in it's own right just the same, and it should be given the chance to stand on it's own right.

Anyway, arrogance is not the right word but I don't understand the intense hatred for a DVD being included and the delusion that without the DVD it will be at a lower price.

RRP may be high but it is never followed hence you are essentially getting it free and I'm sure you could then give it to a friend or donate it. Arrogance though definitely comes under 'I'll use it for a coaster' crap that comes up sometimes. I mean, stop being such primadonnas it's not like it the world is ending. There are people who do use the DVDs. It's pathetic we see this kind of attitude really, newsflash you're not the only one in the world and not everyone is as rich and selfish as you that they use DVDs as coasters.
