I need to runaway ! Help !

Post by Jack Skellington »

Guys sorry to start a really weird topic here, but I've recently been outed in a country where it's possible to lose your life for being gay/lesbian/bisexual. My parents initally took me to a shrink for help, it didn't work, now I'm forced to live in a life with no freedom or dignity.
My only hope is to runaway to the States, i already have a tourist visa, and enough money to last 3 months living there.
I just need to find a job and some tips, does anyone know any organiations that can help ?

Thanks, you have no idea how much I need your help right now. :)

I hope that link is current ^ (in looking for listings, I found quite a few websites that hadn't updated since 2004, etc). IF it is:

They have an age cut-off of 24, you have to be younger than that. They're located in New York City. It mentions that you should call to make sure they have available space. The link includes telephone number and address. They say they're an overnight shelter - I'm not sure what that means. I think perhaps it means that at 8 in the morning, you'll have to leave and then you can come back again at 8 at night.

In case that one doesn't work, this is another in New York. They have an age limit of 16-20 years old. But I included this one because they seem really current, their page is updated @ 2011.

If these two don't work out, I got these listings from here:

http://www.365gay.com/living/resources- ... -shelters/

They have listings (I hope they're current) in Florida, Massachusetts, more in New York, and one in Washington.

Please reply so we know where you are and what's happening- if you can. Are you still at home? At a friends'? Are you hiding out now? Can you make it to an airport or boat safely? Are you saying you can't call the police for help if you're threatened with violence?

Wow, I'm so sorry. It's unbelievable how terrible that is. Well, I feel for you, I really, really want you get safe quick!

I can't really think of anything except in the movie "Milk" they dealt with a gay boy who was actually in a wheelchair that was able to get to a shelter to escape persecution for being gay.

Wait, don't you know Amy? What if you asked her to help you out? Or any other UD friends. Some people may take you in.

Like these guys have asked, IF you tell us where you live and some other details we will be able to HELP YOU MORE.

If you need to, you can private message us such information, but I'll be the first to tell you I don't know enough about this to be able to tell you everything you need all by myself. However, maybe I could ask people who do know more.

It says under your avatar that you live in the UK. I can't believe that gay/lesbianism is not accepted there! I watch BBC America and it seems to be pretty mainstream on there. Unless you just moved to another country.

OMG! All I know to do once you're in the States is refer to Lazario's links until you can find a job. Thank God you have a tourist visa! :(

I really wish I had a job so I could send money to you once you finally get safe from wherever you are. :( I'm so sorry to be absolutely no help, but I really hope you get away alright! And please try to post again once you get wherever you're going (if possible), so we know you're okay! :(

Best I can say is use the visa, stay with Amy, and/or go to the places that Lazario referenced.

Just know that all of us here support you, and extend our hands long-distance to do whatever we can.

Under 'Location', it says you live in the UK. Or is that a joke, since it references Robin Hood? (Maybe a stupid question, I dunno.)

If you want to run away, you might as well run away to a country where gay people have FULL equal rights (like the right to marry) and come to The Netherlands.

Anyway, I wish you all the best.

IIRC, Jack Skellington lives in Dubai. He went to the UK for school, although I think it was only for a semester or two, so he's back in Dubai.

Anyway, I really hope things turn out for the better, Scully! Hopefully you and Amy's couch will get better acquainted. ;)

Ouch. That's a bad place to be gay. :(

Again, all the best to Jack.

Isn't Dubai like the most liberal place you can be in Saudi Arabia peninsula? Guess it isn't.

God I feel so blessed just seeing the support here, I've been praying a lot, and things are starting to get better. Basically they sent me to a hypnotherapist, and I'm pretty sure it's not gonna help, but I'm gonna have to pretend for my own sake. Things are never gonna be the same, but now I'm just gonna have to work on my degree here in Dubai (I won't be able to go back to the UK) while I'm still here, I'm gonna leave as soon as things start to get worse, which I hope won't happen until at least after graduation, but I'm gonna be prepared this time.

I can't express how grateful I am to have this amount of support here, I was honestly expecting one or two messages. Thank you so much you guys, I wish there were more people like you out there. :)

:) I'm glad things are getting better, though I'm sad you have to pretend you're not gay. Even though that's what you've been doing already! I'll also pray for you that things get better, but I did have one other suggestion, too, but I'm not sure if it will really work.

If you had to leave your country, and thus your college, then I wonder if you might be able to go to another college in a safe country that pays for you to go there because of your situation? I'm saying this because colleges tend to give give money to people with certain financial and minority backgrounds, and in your case you are from a minority nationality and sexual orientation, and I'm wondering if after they heard of your predicament, they would give you free money to finish your education.
