With Disney releasing so much 3D you can bet all of the coupons Disney puts out for home video releases will be 3D only (like the Christmas Carol one). Luckily they've also scanned in & worked for regular blu ray combo packs (as long as a sharp cashier doesn't disallow you from even trying them). You can look forward to paying more for combo packs especially if they fix the coupons so the 3D combo coupons don't work for regular blu ray combo packs.
15 gallon 7 pint blood donor as of 1-4-11. Done donating. Apparently having Cancer makes you kind of ineligible to donate.
Wow, I never thought about that, but you are probably (sadly) right! If that ends up being the case, it doesn't necessarily mean that everyone is going to adopt 3D; there will just be a lot of people with a useless 3rd or 4th disc in their case!buffalobill wrote:With Disney releasing so much 3D you can bet all of the coupons Disney puts out for home video releases will be 3D only (like the Christmas Carol one).

WDHE says they'll release 15 films on 3D BD next year?
Tangled, Tron: Legacy, The Lion King, Beauty & the Beast, Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, The Nightmare Before Christmas, G-Force, and Chicken Little. That leaves a half dozen.
What else, I wonder?

I don't know about the rest of you, but it took me long enough to save the money to invest in my Blu-ray Home Theater System to have to go out and spend thousands more to upgrade to 3-D only to find out that it will require I have to wear those stupid glasses all the time which my eye doctor says are bad for me in any increments longer than a couple of hours.
Besides, I am impressed more than enough with HDTV and Blu-ray High Definition to worry about whether it flies off the screen at me, I have a good imagination and can use my money for other things, like more Blu-ray movies.

I'm waiting to see the results, myself. I've heard nothing but good things about the 3D rendering of BaTB. Most of the classics don't have much going on that would translate as wacky fly-off-the-screen "Look Ma! 3D!" moments. Depending on the execution and the viewing environment, I can see 3D providing an effective extension of the depth of field for which the multiplane camera was originally created.Flanger-Hanger wrote:I draw the line on re-buying DAC in 3D. To paraphrase a comment I read elsewhere online it's like colourizing black and white movies and I don't care for that kind of alteration.

Target is the only store I've been too that will do this. Best Buy reads the coupon before they even scan it, and compares the picture on the coupon to the actual Blu-ray.buffalobill wrote:With Disney releasing so much 3D you can bet all of the coupons Disney puts out for home video releases will be 3D only (like the Christmas Carol one). Anyway I think your right. If we get coupons for these movies this year I'm sure it will be for the 3D versions. I hope I can successfully use them for the 2D ones, if not I'll have some extra discs I'll never use.
I really like combo packs (Blu-ray/DVD), but I have no use for the 3D or Digital Copy discs.

There was an ad in my local paper today about 3D TV sales "flopping" or something like that. Studios are pushing really hard for 3D, but I don't think it's catching on as quickly as they'd like.
Some say 3D is a fad, some say it's here to stay. Either way, I think that the studios should give it a little time to grow, rather than shoving it down our throats in an effort to speed things up! If there is one way to annoy the public and turn away the consumer, keep hitting them over the head with the same thing over and over...

For example most people I know go to 2D showings at the theater now when given a choice, and I don't know anyone that wants a 3DTV at home. The most common thing I hear is its a fad, or not buying one because of future eye concerns.
One thing thats hurting it now is lack of content and all the exclusives that Samsung/Sony/Panasonic seem to get. They should just release the 3D Blu-rays and not make them an exclusive if they are serious about this taking off and doing well.
I also want to see how well Nintendo does with the 3DS. If TV manufactures can use a technology similar to this to make 3DTVs not require glasses I think it will help sales/adoption of 3DTVs.

I really don't like the extra weight of wearing another pair (as light as they are) since my prescriptions are already rather heavy. And having to view the film through two sets of lenses can feel a little cumbersome, especially if both pairs aren't perfectly clean. But I don't really notice a difference with the 3D effect itself, prescription glasses or not.

Thanks, guys. You give me hope for 3D. I'll have to break down and pay the extra three bucks one of these days.sunhuntin wrote:mum wears glasses for driving. im certain the 3d glasses fit over her normal glasses without trouble, but her glasses are small lens'd and light.

According to those who have been to the CES Convention in Las Vegas this year, 3-D has been put on the "back burner" by the television manufacturers because of the lack of sales and support from the movie companies.
According to sources, the "new" thing is going to be 'Smart TV's', televisions that are "App-driven". Television that you can bring all of your favorite web sites to and watch and download movies from the internet. Most Blu-ray players that have been sold in the past year have some internet access like Pandora, Netflix, Blockbuster, and CinemaNow. These new 'Smart' televisions will have more than a hundred app's already built into them so all you have to do is hook them up directly to the internet and you are on board with the up-to-date technology.
3-D sales were not what the manufacturers expected, and with the ticket sales at the box office dropping off for 3-D movies, they are turning their sites on the buyer who really wants 'internet-driven' television.
Just my opinion, but I think this is a good thing. 3-D television is just a gimmick and if you have a well-calibrated HDTV monitor set up correctly you will get the same "motion and feel" of a 3-D movie without having to wear those stupid glasses, which are outrageously priced. So I would say save your money, and just follow the Blu-rays as they are released and don't buy into the hype that 3-D is here to stay. It isn't, as the past has shown us. 3-D started in the early 50's and was supposed to "revolutionize" the movie industry and it faded.
In the 60's it was tried again, as well as in the 70's. To no or low response the idea of 3-D was dropped again. So here we are again, with the movies trying to make us all believe that 3-D is going to "revolutionize" the television home market, and, thankfully, it isn't and probably will fade away with time.

I have a feeling that once Disney gets wind of a lot of stores allowing the 3D only coupons to be used on 2D combo packs, they might do something to ensure that the coupons can only be used for their intended purpose. I know a lot of people were successful in using the $5 3D Tangled coupon on the 2D release. They could probably do something with the barcodes, but that wouldn't stop cashiers from manually entering discounts, I guess.buffalobill wrote:You can look forward to paying more for combo packs especially if they fix the coupons so the 3D combo coupons don't work for regular blu ray combo packs.
I think Tangled is the line in the sand, and from this point, we can pretty much expect all coupons to be for the 3D combos, if applicable. That means when The Lion King shows up this fall, it'll probably be the same kind of deal as Tangled. Hopefully though, we get a $10 off coupon since this is an upgrade and not a new release.
I bought the Tangled 3D combo pack and will probably just stick with the 3D combo packs when available from here on out, as long as they come out cheapest in the end. It's nice getting the digital copy as an added bonus, and these seems to only come with the 3D combo packs anymore.
