I thought she looked like a Sphinx. Or Zira.

But I was more thinking, "Nala finally managed to get on the cover?!" :o

I agree, plus, Rafiki, Timon, and Pumba are looking off the left side of the cover, with Timon holding his hands up in victory. What are they looking at? It's almost like the three of them should be "flopped" so they are looking right, at the gigantic Simba/Nala heads. Rafiki has got the wierdest look on his face for someone staring of into nothing.

The sideways text bothers the shit out of me! Bambi's looks bad enough, but putting "THE" inside of the "O" in "LION" looks like crap! :x

I'm honestly not one to complain too much about covers, but someone has to inform Disney the sideways text looks awful.

I don't think I own 1 Blu-ray or DVD - and I have many, many of them - that have the titles like that. From any studio or genre.

I'm just going to throw this out there: maybe the original crocs has too many teeth and seemed they would eat the birds? Too bad, I like the many triangle shapes they included in the drawing.

Let me make it clear though, I do not like the redoing of this sequence.
Anyone remember an artist named Michael Bedard? I first noticed his stuff when he was doing a strip for the L.A.. FREE PRESS. He went away, but came back with a series of terrific art prints featuring cartoony, white ducks. These were quite popular during the 1980s. One of these images (the one in our home) was/is a duck sunning himself at poolside, surrounded by hungry crocs. The crocs in that LION KING scene are nearly identical to the crocs in that Bedard art.

Something tells me that legal action was taken to insure that the Disney crocs were changed so they would no longer resemble Michael Bedard's crocodiles.

I put together this comparison a while back:

I still really don't know where Scott Shaw! was getting at with the copyright issues, they're not exactly identical.

Eww...
Nuff said really.

Also, the 3D thing is odd to me if true. 3d takes a long time. and while we've heard rumblings that they were working on a 3D conversion of this. I assumed it would still be ways out, like in 2012 at the earliest and be a theatrical release. I would love to see the lion king in 3d if done right. I'm just worried this will be rushed. unless they started around the same time as beauty and the beast secretly.

3D is bullshit anyway. Freaking Lion King in 3D?

Why not use the money and actually restore titles that need restoration instead of converting movies that weren't in 3D.

The one thing people seem to fail to understand is the fact that the early adopters will be ones who ARE NOT parents and definitely not kids so the huge influx of ONLY CGI and animated and kid movies for a format is not going to do anything for it. That said, crap conversions like Clash and Airbender aren't as well. 3D TV sucks and it should go into a hole and die, when they get rid of the glasses and the prominence of all those red/blue whatever it is then we'll talk. (I saw MVA on a 3DTV and everything was marred with these red/blue lines trying to create a 3D effect, it was terrible to say the least)

Now that that little rant is over, the cover for TLK is bad. Bambi used the vertical title first and now it just looks cheap. I also don't like that for both Bambi and this the title isn't actually vertical either just turned from the original horizontal format. The cover is also immensely crowded. Looks like Disney have learned nothing and continue to market to kids with big fat character faces plastered over every release like it's some sort of revolutionary seductive dealbreaker.
I agree that 3DTV needs to die. The 3D gimmick has taken a disgusting turn for the worst. Like I said in the 3D thread, unless the combo packs are virtually the same price I'm not touching the 3D combo pack.

That cover (Disney's, not Lorddh's) is an eyesore. It looks like the Diamond Editions are going to have a trend of having a massive face and sideways title on the left with the supporting characters together on the right. In other words, an uglier re-compositing of the original Platinum concepts. What a shame. I was hoping that after the covers we got for Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, and Alice in Wonderland, Disney's Blu-ray covers were going to have the whole cast occupy the same space like a family portrait. Now instead we get sideways logos and giant monster heads that'll eat the supporting cast. Great.

I've never been against the 3D trend. I honestly think there's been a bit too much bagging on it.

Besides, This guy, with a success rate of about 73% accuracy, says the 3D trend *will* die, but beforehand, 3DTVs will become very cheap. I'm holding out.

Now, the cover is fugly. I mean, how much space will the retailers have to clear out to make room for that slipcover!

Well, Simba's mane doesn't actually protrude from the artwork. If you click the link that cover's from, there are other Disney covers that show the characters popping out. It's just a promotional effect to show that this will have a lenticular slipcover due to the 3-D.

Well, at least this release continues the tradition of horrid Diamond Edition covers. Seriously, the Snow White and Bambi Blu-Ray Diamond Edition covers are absolutely hideous, and are probably my two least favorite Disney covers ever. Until I saw this one, that is. LOL. It's just terrible. That fan-made one is superior in every way. I honestly thought that was the real cover and was wondering how people could hate that?! Then I saw the real one. Eeek. Of course, it won't stop me from getting the film, but it still is annoying Disney doesn't care enough about this Diamond Edition to have halfway decent art on the cover.

If they want to come up with a uniform design for the Diamonds, then thats just fine, but I dont understand why they start it when they are several titles into the line ?! What sense does that make ....... ?

Its like in the UK, for the Platinums, we had '2 Disc Special Editions' for ages, then it randomly changed to 'Platinum' when the line was almost over.

Disney makes no sense whatsoever.

Plus the addition of numbers on the spines for the animated classics about 4 films into the range, so we have Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio and Snow White without numbers.

And what's the point with numbered spines anyway, they don't follow any kind of chronological story order. Aside from the two Rescuers films, and the forthcoming Pooh film, they all stand apart.

I usually don't have problems with the covers anymore since they mess them up more than get them right but this is outrageous and just looks bootleg like I really hope it gets changed.

I think I read somewhere how fans had such negative attitudes against a Snow White sequel they canceled it. This would be another occasion where fans should get something done and make Disney stop this cover. It looks terrible.

..... You have GOT to be kidding me! :x

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wOxt9PoJNkg?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wOxt9PoJNkg?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

And PS,

Why bother getting a 3DTV set for thousands of dollars when you can go see a 3D movie at the movie theaters for $12 at the most?
