Where do we stand on 3D Releases?

I couldn't agree more. I just hope with all this pushing for 3D that Disney and other studios don't start sacrificing deep storylines and quality workmanship for knock-your-socks off 3D effects that do nothing but temporarily dazzle the eyes.

the toy story double feature blew me away in 3d. i was 10 when toy story came out and i was amazed with the technology then. to see such a ground breaking film on the big screen again, and have it blow my mind again, is amazing.

ts3 was disappointing in its lack of 3d parts. mum was rather let down after all my hype after seeing the first two. we then went to despicable me, and shes a 3d convert and will coming to tangled with me.

i think if i bought a 3d tv, it wouldnt be used for every day viewing. im picturing having it in a seperate room and used only for watching 3d movies once or twice a week at the most.

a friend of mine said that watching too much 3d can mess with your normal depth perception, so when you are driving you can tell how far away you are from the car in front for example.

I suspect that there are a great many myths going around about 3D by many 'experts' at the moment, and would suspect there will be a great many more to come.

At the end of the day, watching too much television of any kind isn't good for you.

i agree, but the friend that told me isnt a stirrer and was serious when we were talking. i think there needs to be more research made publically available to joe public so people can make an informed decision, not only for themselves, but also their kids. [assuming people use their 3dtv for daily use and their kids are watching too]

People with this mind set are akin to saying "I don't see the point in opening both eyes unless I'm sky diving or on a roller coaster. most days I just wear a patch". we naturally see things with depth using both our eyes. seeing a 3d movie is basically like opening your second eye. Yes, I realize we haven't quite ditched the glasses, but we'll get there. also worth noting, there are glasses that eliminate the dimmer image problem, albeit their pricey.

And what does HD have to do with anything? 3D and HD are not mutually exclusive.

I have two neighboring households that have 3D tvs. I'm kind of convinced, since my PS3 shoul be 3D ready. my audio receiver is not. And with so many 3D movies, i wouldnt want to make efforts to protect my health, but sometimes I wish I had the 3d version.

I'm in no hurry to get 3-D Blu-Ray. To be honest, I think the whole idea is a disaster waiting to happen (and I really like 3-D).

I feel kind of dumb, but I've never seen a full movie in 3D.

I was thinking about seeing Tron: Legacy in 3D but haven't gotten around to it yet. My case against 3D (not sure how accurate it is, though) is that 3D glasses are uncomfortable/less effective if you wear regular glasses. As I said, I've never been to the theatres to see a 3D movie, but I've seen 3D shows at theme parks. The 3D doesn't work quite as well for me with my regular glasses on. Is the 3D of movie theatres more compatible with glasses? Are there any glasses-wearers out there that have thoughts on this?

I prefer to wear my contacts if I know I'm going to be seeing a movie in 3D, but that's mostly for the comfort level on the bridge of my nose . . . I really don't like the extra weight of wearing another pair (as light as they are) since my prescriptions are already rather heavy. And having to view the film through two sets of lenses can feel a little cumbersome, especially if both pairs aren't perfectly clean. But I don't really notice a difference with the 3D effect itself, prescription glasses or not.

I find the Real 3D glasses are big enough that they just fit over my regular glasses without any problem, and you quickly forget you're wearing them. Not like those horrible cardboard things we used to have, or even the type of glasses you tend to get in 3D shows in theme parks.

mum wears glasses for driving. im certain the 3d glasses fit over her normal glasses without trouble, but her glasses are small lens'd and light.

Did you read what you wrote? Your receiver has nothing to do with 3-D, HD, flat screen, standard DVD, etc. If your audio amplifier has HDMI input(s) then you are good to go. You are only using it for sound and not picture. I have not changed my audio receiver in almost 6 years, and it has 3 HDMI inputs and two outputs, and I have a PS3, HDTV and stand-alone Blu-ray player hooked to it.

If someone is telling you that you need to have a new amplifier to see 3-D, they are just trying to get your hard-earned money. As long as you have the HDMI inputs you are good to go.

As far as the 3-D glasses fitting over your regular glasses go, I have no problem with them fitting over my glasses, they are compfortable easily removed after the show.

Without glasses, I don't think that we will ever see 3-D in the home television market, and with the box office at the theaters showing a steady decline in sales, I am sure that the television thing will also go by the wayside.

If you have a good HDTV and a good Blu-ray player, and you don't watch television in the dark, you will be just fine. I have spent too much money on what I have in my Home Theater to go out and 're-spend' money to keep up with the Jones's.

I've enjoyed my 3D experiences at the cinema, though they have been few. My PS3 can play 3D, thanks to Sony's upgrades, but I don't know when I'll be able to buy a new TV. I may hold out for the glasses-less 3D sets, at which Toshiba and Sony are hard at work, but that'll take some time and they'll surely be costly.

I don't think movies will be what pushes 3D adoption, if it ever breaks big. Gaming seems to offer more potential. And sporting events---I heard good things about overseas World Cup 3D broadcasts last year, and the NFL is the boggest property the broadcast networks have; if football fans jump on the bandwagon, the technology will find eventually its way into a lot more homes (and cost sports bars some coin in upgrades).

I shudder to think at the potential porn might have to push the technology...eek.

While the 3D format continues its move towards home entertainment with more and more titles being released on 3D Blu-ray every month, it looks like Disney is getting in on the action as well. The Walt Disney Company announced today that it plans to release at least fifteen films on 3D Blu-ray throughout 2011. Titles set to hit 3D home video include The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Nightmare Before Christmas, TRON: Legacy, and Tangled. Not only will the films be presented in 3D, but the special 3D Blu-ray release will come complete with 3D menus, 3D trailers, and an introduction to the world of Disney 3D from The Lion King characters Timon and Pumba.

I wonder what sales are like for one's already released. Studios seem to be putting expectations so high. I can't help but think if this is going to backfire. Studios are still trying to push Blu-ray itself let alone Blu-ray 3D.

Interesting how The Stewardesses was the highest-grossing 3D film ever until Avatar came along 40 years later.

I thought the High Def Digest ad had it shown as a 4 disc Combo pack. Would imagine it would be 1 3DBD, 2 BD, 1 DVD.
