I've loved that story for a while now (I know I've suggested it before in one of these threads).Animalia wrote:I would love it if they did King Thrushbeard or another similar tale. I think it would be a very uncliche movie for Disney to do. Cause instead of the male character needing an attitude change, it's the girl.
Obviously some details would need to change (such as the father marrying his daughter off--maybe something where she gets herself trapped into a deal with the man she has to work for instead of a marriage?), but even then you know it wouldn't work in today's world. Because a girl having to change = sexist.
Btw, love your ava/banner.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

The story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin always intrigued me as a kid and it still does. I've read mary adaptations of the story and I really think Disney could make an amazing story about it.
For people who don't know the story:
In Hamelin there was a rat infestation. A man dressed in piep came to the city and offered his help. He played his musical pipe and the rats all followed him into a river where they drowned. Despite his succes, the people of Hamelin refused to help him. One night the man returned and played his pipe again. The 130 boys and girls of Hamelin followed the man into a cave and were never seen again.
In some adaptation three kids stay behind: a mute kid (who is to slow to follow the man), a blind kid (who can't see where the man goes) and a deaf child (who doesn't hear the music).
In one adaptation there was a twist where the Piper transforms all the kids who followed him into rats and send them back to there parents in Hamelin.
Now Disneyfy this story:
- we have a great villain; the Piper
- we could have really special heroes: the three kids who stay behind. Disney could have its first blind female heroine (imagine a 16 year old daughter of the mayor of Hamelin) and its first mute hero (imagine a 17 year old charming boy who needs a horse to move quickly) and a cute sidekick deaf boy-character of 10 years old
- we could have amazing songs: because the music of the Piper should be hypnotizing. And because the blind girl can't see, sound is really important for her so she could have a beautiful song aswell
- and at the end we could have a great story: imagine the Piper dissapearring with the other kids. The mute boy and blind girl find each other in the forests and help each other to follow the music and the Piper. On their way they obviously could fall in love and accept the other for who/she is (regardless of her blindness and him being mute => which would be a great message to kids and even adults). When they finally find the Piper, the mute boy would see how the Piper transforms the other kids into rats. The mute boy and blind girl would warn the city Hamelin not to kill the rats because they are their own kids, and eventually they'd fight the Piper and break his magical flute. By breaking this flute, the rats would return back in kids.
Maybe it's me but I think it would be an amazing story with really interesting characters

Wasn't there a planned project at one point featuring Mickey Mouse, or a search for Mickey Mouse, which was going to use some of the most popular characters through several of the earlier Disney Classics.
Now, this would be a tough thing to do and would probably split many purists, and I'm not sure exactly what kind of plot you'd use, but it could potentially be very epic to have some kind of big plot line where Mickey and the Gang cross over into all sorts of different animated movies. If they could do them in the style of the previous movies, or era's too, so for example, Mickey would change appearance when he goes back to the 30's era and meets Snow White, or even goes CG if he meets the likes of Rapunzel, Bolt or Chicken Little.
I think you'd have to somehow acknowledge the existence of the real world, perhaps some kind of rift in the Magic Kingdom which Mickey has to put right with the help of the other characters, and there would have to be an element of tongue in cheek about it, but it could be a great nod to the past. Difficulty of course would be choosing exactly which characters appear, and how much screen time they'd get.
There could be all sorts of humorous and dramatic possibilities if it was done well though. Perhaps as the rift widens, the boundaries between worlds start to break down and you could get different characters interacting, imagine Ariel, Belle and Jasmine working together.

Well..the idea of the crossov er movie is a bit complicated...many of the voice actors of the old films have died, plus it would be a branding nightmare, and might affect the future regard for the older characters. I remember reading once that when it comes to the princess frenchise (for example), the princesses can be in the same picture, but not acknowledge each other (ie: look at each other...touch each other).
As for the Pied Piper...well...here is the problem: the story actually goes that the villains of the story was the mayor. He refused to pay the piper after he got rid of the rats, and thats why he took the kids, as a form of revenge. Which makes him a very unsympathetic hero...but not really a villain either. And as for the blind, deaf and mute characters....does disney HAVE to have a different for of diversity in each film? Do they HAVE to be politically correct? Plus, it sounds like most of the movie would happen after the piper is gone...
The problem w the piper story is that its about one man versus a town, which would make personalities very hard to develop. If you had the piper come into the town, make friends, meet a woman, and then was torn between his need for "revenge" for not being paid and his new found love for his friends and woman...maybe there could be something there I think...

Yeah well, you could have the villain be a prince she rejected who turns out to be an egotistical womanizer, who dies at the end. *cough* Gaston.Disney's Divinity wrote:You know it wouldn't work in today's world. Because a girl having to change = sexist. It doesn't matter that she's a complete snob.
Btw, love your ava/banner.
Thanks, had the hardest time finding fonts I liked. Also your set is awesome as well.Disney's Divinity wrote: Btw, love your ava/banner.
I think it would make a better short. But instead of the piper taking the kids away, he could almost take the kids away. Like the three kids could follow the rest of the children and then they somehow get his flute and they in turn enchant him and force him to leave the town forever. The story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin always intrigued me as a kid and it still does. I'm sure there are people who could do reasonable versions of the voices, it hasn't held back the famous 5 over the years.
And I've definitely seen other projects where the Princesses have acknowledged each others presence, so I don't see that being a problem if the right premise for why characters shouldn't cross over into each others worlds could be found.

Boy, there would be some interesting elements in the Pied Piper to make a good feature film, or a half-hour short.
-A flawed hero. We usually dont get heroes who would be willing to do something incredibly villainous. Even for the right reasons. Tricky, but potentially refreshing. I would even go so far to say how refreshing it would be to challenge the people who would cry "Pedo" at the idea of the kids being taken, or near-taken, by the main protagonist.
-the Mayor could spread *convincing* political propoganda to fuel the town's hatred of the Piper. The emphasis is because oftentimes when that happens in a movie or TV show, we usually get either snippets or a dumbed down, "this official/interviewee is so evil but we won't even achknowledge it" version. This would do particularly well in a more contemporary setting.

Disney should make a movie based on the Bremen Town Musicians, a movie based on Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories, and a movie based on Mother Goose rhymes.
