"The smolder" was a lame, awkward gag, because they never speak of it before or after the first time, which I was sort of expecting from the trailers.Poody wrote:Believe me, when I wear my Flynn costume, I hate doing the smolder.SWillie! wrote: Here's the thing about the smolder. Have you tried making the face, the actual face, he makes in the film? It's darn near impossible for a human being to make without looking absolutely ridiculous. That's why they have settled on a pursed lips-smirk with one eyebrow raised. It still gives off the same "suave" or "sexy" vibe, and it looks real at the same time. It's not a very attractive look, even in the movie. But I do it anyway, for the character and it's fun. It always gets laughs out of people. To me, the smolder isn't suppose to be sexy. Flynn just thinks it is. It obviously didn't work on Rapunzel.
Tangled Discussion - Part V
Re: Authenticity!
I'm of the opinion that spoilers shouldn't be discussed in public until after a year of a film's release. But, in the case of this forum, I feel that the white-outing can stop once the title reaches its Region 1 DVD release, because by then, it will likely have reached international markets.SWillie! wrote:I thought you said you were gonna stop coming to this thread now, since it's been two weeks since the movie was released and we should be able to stop with the white out crap.ajmrowland wrote:im not even gonna mention it. im really mad right now and people should always wait a month before disregarding them. i just wont say it.
Remember, that there are still many, many countries that still haven't gotten Tangled yet.

I don't really think we should have to worry about spoilers in a thread meant to discuss the release of the film. I don't mean any disrespect, but the purpose of a forum is to share with others and being asked to white things out is a bit tedious. I understand wanting to be surprised when you see the film for the first time but there's nothing stopping you or anyone else from avoiding this thread. I didn't follow this thread up until a few weeks before the release because I didn't want to know too much about it.

Yep, I admit it, the smolder was incredibly uneeded. It didn't matter if it was in the movie or if it wasn't. I think it was pretty much for the trailers and Rapunzel's priceless expression when he does it XDSemaj wrote:"The smolder" was a lame, awkward gag, because they never speak of it before or after the first time, which I was sort of expecting from the trailers.Poody wrote: Believe me, when I wear my Flynn costume, I hate doing the smolder. It's not a very attractive look, even in the movie. The "white=spoiler thing annoys me (I always use my IPhone when posting, so I can't highlight to read or anything, I have to zoom in to read it.) Maybe someone could start A board specifically for people who have seen the movie (where you can discuss spoilers, favorite scenes, ETC) and keep this board for people who haven't seen the movie (or the other way around. Doesn't matter.)estefan wrote:I'm of the opinion that spoilers shouldn't be discussed in public until after a year of a film's release. Couple things first... I didn't necessarily mean my post to come off angrily or negative towards you. I said you're being the person that everyone here can't stand. Not that you are, in real life, that person. I figured that since you are being that person here on the internet, you would be that person at the parks. And seeing it happen in the parks pisses me off, and so that's why seeing here upsets me. But I suppose you're right that I assumed too much. Sorry.Rapunzel wrote:Oh my goodness! I have no idea why my opinion upsets you so much. I just like the ending of the movie so much that I feel like having it grow back blonde and to extreme lengths significantly changes the end of the film. So, I would prefer if she was existing in the pre-ending world, not post-ending with it all returning. I like her short brown hair ending a lot.
Now, for your information, if I were at the park I would NEVER ask Rapunzel why her hair is back and blonde or try to pry out plot holes from any character. You are assuming a LOT about me. I would tell myself it is pre-ending and go about thinking of it that way. I loved this movie. I loved Rapunzel and Eugene. I would gleefully meet them and play along at the park. But, in my head I would explain her hair by saying this is pre-ending because I like that better than thinking the magic and hair came back.
And again, because you have classified me as "being the person that everyone here at Disney can't stand", I want to stress that I would never go up to any face character and start asking any kind of questions about the movie. I just enjoy getting a picture with them and saying hello, or how I love this or that about them (ex. I told Ariel her eyes were such a pretty blue). I would, ironically, be telling Rapunzel how much I love her hair especially with all the flowers in it.
Out of curiosity what DO they say when they have Beast in beast form in the parks? I'm sure some one brings it up (And no, again, I would NOT be that person), but I am interested in what they explain. I wouldn't have even thought to ask what happened because I'd be playing along as if I just hadn't seen the end of the movie. I would have assumed that he was pre-ending as well.
As for the Belle and Beast situation, I honestly am not sure the storyline they use. I don't personally know any Beasts, or Belles that are ever out with Beast. But, while the vast majority of people do just as you and others have said, and just assume that Beast is stuck in a moment in the film and don't ask questions (an assumption which works perfectly fine), they can't actually use that storyline as the reason if they are ever asked. Because then a conversation might go something like this:
Guest: So, why does Beast still look like this?
Belle: What do you mean? He's looked like since I first met him. I'm actually growing quite fond of him, despite his looks!
Guest: Nooo... I saw him transform. He died in your arms and then you said I love you, and the spell was broken and he transformed back into an awkward looking man. I watched it, with my own eyes.
Belle: Oh.. umm... what spell? Beast, you haven't told me about any spell! None of this is making sense!
Guest: I know, tell me about it.
Belle: Oh just shut up and smile for the camera you ridiculous grown man.
----------------------
See the problem? It's when people actually go as far as to question things that issues start to arise. So like I said, I don't actually know the storyline they use, but I would assume it's something along the lines of "Well me and Beast learned that it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside... we fell in love because of what's inside! And now we've come here to show everyone else that it's what's inside that really counts. Even though Beast looks scary, he's really kind, and gentle!"
Or something. It has to stay in character. Basically they're main goal when they get asked questions like that is to turn the conversation around into something positive and try and steer away from further interrogation.

I'm willing to bet that if the trailers hadn't over used and butchered it, people wouldn't hate the smolder so muchTangled wrote:Yep, I admit it, the smolder was incredibly uneeded. I love the smolder...I think it's still really funny! I think the purpose of it was to maybe show that Flynn usually gets things his way- he said how it must be an off-day for him, so obviously women usually swoon at the smolder. It just shows how special and different Rapunzel is, too!Tangled wrote:Yep, I admit it, the smolder was incredibly uneeded. It didn't matter if it was in the movie or if it wasn't. Another artist showed me a teaser trailer for Tangled that was never used. It shows Flynn and the horse Maximus fleeing soldiers, then falling on the branch, and then Flynn Rider discovering the tower and climbing same.
As it was explained to me: "The original teaser got cut up and used a different way." [See above.] "The bits where Flynn is grabbed by Rapunzel's hair, dragged by Rapunzel's hair, didn't end up in the film. Flynn escaping on the horse Maximus didn't end up in the film.
"What the released teaser trailer did was take pieces from the film and pieces from the original, unused trailer, and that's why people wonder why the trailer from five months back has shots not in the film. It's because some bits were designed for the first teaser, then that teaser got recut and restructured. ..."

So over the past few days I've been going through all 70 pages of hellyeahtangled.tumblr.com (as well as some other sites it had linked me to) saving and organizing all the Tangled promo pictures, sketches and concept art I could find.
I missed most of the first four Tangled topics so this cute little tumblr really helped me out.

Ah okay, I understand where you were coming from then. It is just that I expect to be able to discuss things including different opinions and the things I like or don't like on a forum that I wouldn't ever bring up to someone playing the part. And really, I didn't think my opinion was that controversial or would cause anyone to become angry. I actually like hearing what people thought about a movie even when I disagree with them.SWillie! wrote: Couple things first... I really only have a few things I didn't like with the movie itself, all of which I can live with, and none of which are true plot holes. As for the Face Characters, my personal wish is that they wouldn't change the movie's powerful ending. Because, and I repeat, I love the ending. But never would I bring up the subject to a Face Character even if I overhear Rapunzel saying something about it to a questioning child.
Now I want to know what Beast and Belle do say to that question!SWillie! wrote:

Anyone who goes up and starts pestering Face Characters about stuff like this is stupid. I could see a kid questioning them at first, but most kids would accept most answers. But anyone who is doing this just to be a pain really should know better. I don't like people like that either.

Re: UK Tangled release January 2011 !! Why???
I know you probably don't feel the same way but i wish i was back in time before i see Tangled. Even though waiting sucks i had something to look forward to. Believe me, the wait is SO WORTH IT.Deco King wrote:I always get realy pissed off at this ! Why oh why does Disney release it's animated movies in the US before the UK! And if you really can't wait much longer, you can always go to Holland. They have the original version here in 3D.
You just have to cross the sea!

Why is the smolder crap tick people off? what is it that irk them about it? That scene didn't even faze me. Never thought it was something worth bitching about.

So, I saw the official Tangled dolls for the first time today and I find it interesting that the boxes don't have the word "Tangled" anywhere. I understand why Rapunzel's box would only have her name, but even Flynn's box only says "Rapunzel" (funnily enough, her name is bigger than Flynn's, haha).
So, is this the first time that a character's film title doesn't appear on their box?

I still don't get this either (though I live in the US). I thought in the 90s, they made a big deal about all their animated films being released world wide at the same time?Deco King wrote:I always get realy pissed off at this ! I'm pretty sure those were designed and produced before they were sure on the title "Tangled." Those same dolls can now be seen in stores saying "Tangled" instead of "Rapunzel" on the boxes. I prefer the old box designs, obviously.estefan wrote:So, I saw the official Tangled dolls for the first time today and I find it interesting that the boxes don't have the word "Tangled" anywhere.
