I was able to get my copy last night at Toys R Us for $16.99 (using the $10 coupon).

I did have a 2nd $3 off coupon I got from a TRU savings booklet, but the sales associate said that their system wouldn't accept a second coupon. I pointed out to her that the TRU coupon didn't mention that it couldn't be used with manufacturer's coupon, but she still insisted it wouldn't work. I didn't push the issue and assumed that she knew what she was talking about, but who knows? I was just hoping to get it for $13.99 :P

I won't be able experience the 2 films in HD until after I get a Blu-ray player this Christmas, but I did watch some of the DVD version of Fantasia and it looked really nice!

Lol, I wondered if she may not have been informed and/or wasn't aware that a customer could use a 2nd coupon, but I wasn't sure 100% myself, so I let it go. I've gotten some really good deals on stuff in the past, so I'll just chalk up the $3 as a bit of a loss and hope that it all balances out in the end, lol

The shot of the cherub fixing the doves on the centaurette's head, then the shot of the centaurettes gathering around to look (where, in the edited version, it's zooming in so that we don't see Sunflower). The entirety of Sunflower's solo shot where she's putting flowers on the tail is 5 seconds. Since the other shots of her are zoomed or digitally changed, the 5 seconds is what causes the audio sync problem that was "fixed" in edited versions by repeating other footage.

Yeah that's really strange though. It 100% would have taken it.. I've rang it up myself several times for people. :P Sorry that happened to you! Ask for a manager next time if an associate it being stupid.. especially now.. lots of seasonal people. Although that coupon does require you to purchase another DVD or Blu ray for 14.99 or higher. Maybe that's why?

Wow, I must be BLIND! Patrick, you are right! I didn't even see the line on the bottom stating "AND any other Disney Blu-ray or DVD $14.99 and higher." Lol, oops!

That kind of makes me feel better, because I was only going to buy Fantasia anyway, so the coupon doesn't even apply to me!

Here goes nothing.............For the very first time I watched Fantasia 2000 in Blu-ray and all the extras. What a fabulous movie and the sound is astounding.

Was really knocked out by the "Dali/Disney" Documentary on "Destino". I had never seen the short, so I watched the documentary first and it was almost an hour and a half of pure pleasure, after which I watched "Destino" and was so proud to be able to see this Academy Award-Nominated Short, 6 1/2 minutes of pure pleasure. Wow!!!!

Tomorrow I will indulge myself in my favorite film Fantasia. Just wanted to see "2000" first because I had never seen it before now.

I am glad that I decided to break my rule about "no double-dipping" when I already owned "Fantasia" and was happy with the upconversion. But for $13.95 at Ultimate Electronics (with the Disney $10 coupon) I would have been a fool to turn this down. Now the 4-disc collection on Blu-ray is in my collection.

:D
The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!

The_Iceflash wrote:As someone who only previously owned the Fantasia VHS, can someone please explain to me the differences between that and this new edition?
You mean besides the bump in PQ? Our VHS contained the complete general release version while this Blu-Ray contains a recreation of the original roadshow. The difference? About 5 minutes of footage. The general release left out some gratuitous Deems Taylor interstitial narrations (just extensions of his intros to the segments that explain EVERYTHING you're about to see in great detail). Also, the general release left out the intermission, where the title card originally was, and put the title card at the beginning of the film. Lets not forget, the VHS version contains Deems Taylor's narration, not Corey Burton's. Other then that, they're pretty much the same.
The_Iceflash wrote:Can some also address the issue filmmusic brought up? Thanks.
What issue is that? The color changes? They're more like corrections as they seem more accurate to the natural color pallets that Walt liked to use in his features. Also, look at the comparisons I posted. Notice how the old DVD was way off and this new version is closer to the old 80s broadcast. The dove is once again white, instead of yellow.
Mr. Yagoobian wrote:It's not the release it should have been, and the repeated sequence in the Pastoral is a touch annoying---shame it replaces the zoomed-in close-up of the pink centaurette as the most obtrusive edit in the film---but...
Why you be hatin'?

Now you be hatin' on me. Not cool, fo reals. Drownin' me with yo haterade j/k

In all seriousness, I love my Snow White, Pinocchio, and Sleeping Beauty Blus, so I'm not sure if you actually 'get it'.

With that said, at least they left in Deems at the beginning of Fantasia 2000, instead of dubbing over that too.

I haven't been able to take a look at the Blu-ray copies of these films, as I won't have a Blu-ray player until Christmas, but for those of you that have watched the DVD versions, has anyone else noticed what appear to be very light vertical "stripes" or "bands" in the background of the picture on the screen for Fantasia?

It's kind of hard to describe, but during scenes with solid color backgrounds, especially during the dinosaur scenes in "Rite of Spring," multiple vertical lines are visible running from top to bottom of the picture, almost "behind" the action on the screen. What I mean by this is the scenes move over top of these stripes, they are always in the same place. It's almost as if I were projecting a film that had the same long line through all of the individual frames (like a big scratch). The camera pans and moves, but the stripe (very faint) is always there in the same spot from scene to scene.

I thought it might have been my DVD player, so I checked playback in another player on the same TV and still saw the lines. This TV is an LCD HDTV. I even checked on the standard definition television in another room and still saw the lines.

They are very faint, but I have definitely noticed them. Anyone else? I am not sure what to make of this, as I hadn't seen this kind of thing in any of the recently restored Disney releases and am wondering if this is some kind of flaw or something that wasn't fixed during restoration??? Again, I've only viewed the DVD version of Fantasia, so I can't comment on or compare to the Blu-ray.

Hopefully this makes sense to someone!

I went a step further and checked playback of the DVD on my PC. The following is a screenshot depicting what I tried to explain previously:

Image

Again, this is the DVD copy, I haven't checked the Blu - no player yet.

These 2 lines show up after the camera pans up to the sun and stops.

The lines aren't this pronounced through the whole movie, but I am definitely noticing stuff here and there. At first I thought I was going crazy because it kept distracting me, but then I figured out it was the lines.

Maybe I am just being overly critical, but like I said, this is the first time I've seen this type of thing in a Disney restoration.

Not on my Blu-Ray. Your screen shot almost looks like some kind of burn-in, but of course, that makes no sense.

Thanks for your input Rudy Matt, I was initially worried that it might be burn in (especially since my TV is barely over a month old), but in checking the disc with another TV and on my computer and still getting the lines, at least I can rule that out. Plus, I had never seen the lines before when watching TV or movies.

Unless I am mistaken, isn't the same exact film with full restoration on both the Blu-ray and DVD copies, with no differences between the two (besides, of couse, that the Blu is in HD and the DVD is standard). Again I have been only able to check the DVD of this film, as I don't have a Blu-ray player until Christmas.

I'm a bit relieved to hear the lines aren't on the Blu-ray, but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed lines on their DVD? It doesn't look like its some kind of DVD manufacturing error, the lines look like they are native to the film print, but I cannot imagine these being overlooked during restoration.

Hopefully someone else can confirm that they've seen this or can offer some kind of information to explain what is going on. I feel a little bit disappointed because I was expecting a phenomenal restoration, and if these flaws somehow made it through that process without being touched it would be a real shame.

Is there any chance it just might be my DVD only? I am not sure if it would be worth exchanging it for another only to find the same thing on the next copy.

i haven't bought the set yet....is it true about the rumors of separate releases next year? Two different combo packs: 125 points each instead of the 200 points for the 4 disc? The coupon expires on the 4th and I don't know if I'll be using it after all....I just don't know...

I think they could have digitally removed sunflower in this scene as well. I don't like when they zoom in.

To say the least, video and audio is fantastic all around on this release. Neither film has ever looked better, and whatever your thoughts are on editing Sunflower out, it's done well enough this time around so we don't have to deal with the image becoming suddenly hazy and grainy when zoomed in on.

Still, the thing that bugs me... the bonus features. Am I glad they included the past DVD features in the virtual vault? Of course, though you can't see anything full screen and the streaming makes everything fairly choppy on my player. But there was ample space on both discs had they split up the previously existing bonus features between the two films. Hell, there's space for the Fantasia 2006 shorts on the second disc also (I'm essentially resigning myself to the fact that I will not be seeing "Lorenzo" any time soon, which really irks me).

Needless to say, as much as I like the movies here, I won't be selling my three-disc DVD box set anytime soon.

I totally agree with you. The thing that bugs me the most about this set is the Virtual Vault thing. I don't have my player hooked up to the internet and I have no intentions on it but something tells me that sometime in the near future we'll get separate releases of the films with the bonus features actually on the discs. All in all, I'm just happy to have these films in glorious HD!
