For those that picked up the Blu-ray trilogy today how bad is the packaging? I know they used some "spring" type case for the discs. Just wondering how difficult the discs are to remove from the case, and if it will hold up over time?

I haven't had a chance, yet, to pick this up, but forum members at Blu-ray.com say the packaging is absolutely terrible. They're all having a tough time trying to remove the discs without snapping them in half. No one's providing descriptions of how the discs are packaged except to say that the digital copies are actually in a more secure area than the BDs themselves and that everyone's switching their places. People are also complaining that the awkwardness of the disc trays makes the BDs prone to finger prints since they have no disc art.

I'm now thinking about getting the UK set (at least the standard one) if the US one is this horrible. Both versions in the UK come in a digipak, and each disc has its own artwork. Heck, I might just bite the bullet and go for the giftset, especially since it doesn't take up much more room than my Harry Potter Ultimate Editions.

it's horrible...horrible...this spring case is going to ruin my discs. I just had a hard time getting the 1st one out of this and now I can't seem to fit it back in it's open up digipack like boxing. it's like that clear plastic packaging but there is no thing to put the disc in in the middle...just this spring thing that I think busted, and I am poed. If you thought re-cycle green cases were bad....this is 10 times worse...

Does anybody have a number to Universal....I want to call about their terrible packaging...I can't even seem to get movie one or two out the packaging without breaking the disc in process...

Does the Blu-Ray correct the audio problems that were present on the previous DVD set and individual DVD releases?

For reference, there were several music cues that sounded like the music was being played underwater (i.e. it was warbly). A good reference is in the alley when they first arrive in the future and Marty turns and starts walking towards the alley looking out of it. Right after this he is told by Doc to change his clothes.

The music fanfare builds up there and sounds awful on the DVD. Another spot I believe is when he's looking at the window in the nostalgia shop and see's the Almanac for the first time.

Could somebody PLEASE check these spots and tell me if the music cues are still distorted?

After seeing the stuff on the US set I'm going to pass and get the UK set. Maybe even the limited edition tin set. Does the UK set play fine on US Blu-ray players (special features, etc...)? Or do I need a PS3 for them to play?

Either of the UK sets will work fine. Universal, thankfully, doesn't region lock their BDs, so they play everywhere.

And in too-sad-to-be-really-funny news, the packaging controversy has caused Universal to issue an instruction sheet on how to remove the discs. Yes, folks. We've come to the point where we need instructions to remove home video discs. Bravo:

Its sad that they had to release instructions for this set. That's all I've heard/read about on the release since it came out. Hopefully they don't use this type of packaging anymore.

How are the US discs/packaging holding up after taking the discs in and out a few times?

I noticed Newegg has the US Trilogy for $42 with free shipping now. I was planning to get the UK set, but with the US set dropping in price I'll probably just get it. Although I am worried about the case...

I finally got my set yesterday and I can tell you first hand that once you know the proper way of removing the discs (pushing them downward instead of pulling out), the packaging's not a problem. I do admit the packaging itself is pretty cheap looking. The slipcover really should've slid sideways (like other digipaks) instead of vertically (like standard case's slipcovers) because the digipak underneath falls out very easily. Still, I don't find this as horrifying as most seem to, and as long as you're not careless with the packaging, it should hold up pretty well after some time.

Sounds good. I wonder why Universal didn't include instructions with the sets on how to properly remove/replace the discs. My main concern isn't really the case, but how the discs will hold up over time.

Finally got my UK set today, and the packaging they used was terrible (brown cardboard envelope). The set was almost flat. Looks like someone sat something heavy on it. I didn't even open it (not sure what the discs looked like), and just sent it back. Never had a movie arrive from Amazon.com like this before. I guess Amazon.co.uk uses different packaging.

Noticed that the US set is part of Amazon.com's Black Friday week lightning deals next Monday. Probably going to just order that one, and wait on my refund from Amazon.co.uk.

It's $35 on Amazon but I'm not sure if I'll buy it (since I don't buy anything with digital copies). I still want the UK set with all the trinkets.

$35 is very tempting. Although the Blu-ray set is a lightning deal next Monday with Amazon. I don't know if its worth buying it now, or waiting.

The UK set is nice, but I'm really disappointed with how Amazon UK shipped it. I went ahead and did a return/refund, since I figure they would ship a replacement out the same way (and it would also be damaged).

With the current deals I'll probably pickup the US release within the week. I guess if the packaging is really the nightmare I've read about I can always put the discs in a spare case.

Got my US set today, and everyone is right. Terrible packaging. It arrived it excellent condition though, and was a fantastic deal for $25 (Amazon Lightning Deal).

I tried to take BTTF 1 out carefully so I wouldn't break the case. I felt like I was going to break it getting it out, so I stopped. When I went to close the case it just fell out. Also once out it was even scarier putting it back in. The packaging on the outside looks nice, and I would be ok with the inside if it used normal disc hubs. I was prepared for this to be bad, but I wasn't prepared for how much pressure you need to remove the discs from the case. Maybe its where the set is new? I don't know, but I'm not risking it.

Anyway I've found some custom covers online, and I'm going to wait and pickup some spare Blu-ray cases tomorrow. Once these discs come out of this packaging I'm not putting them back in it.

Who'd have thought it? A limited edition release which actually was limited! Looks like the US is the only option now.
