Wow, that was unexpected, but I guess it was his time. He will always be remembered for his work with the Zucker brothers.

Aw no...

He did live long enough to experience the legacy he left behind.

RIP, Mr. Nielsen, and good luck, our fates rest in your hands.

"The Swamp Fox" is dead. R.I.P. Leslie Nielsen

Post by milojthatch »

Leslie Nielsen, who was best known for "Airplane" and the "Naked Gun" films, but to Disney fans for "Swamp Fox" and "Mr. Magoo," has passed away. He did live a long life at 84 years, but he will still be missed!

I don't know about that, he was a Disney actor a few times. But I'll let the Admin make that call.

Or the Admin or forum mods decided to merge it with the one in off topic that is currently going on in the off topic section

And to me the best Disney Movie he made in his later years was Mr. Magoo....

His brother lived here in Kelowna, but passed away two years ago also at the age of 84. That would explain Leslie showing up for a charity event here about 5 or 6 years ago. RIP Leslie - thanks for the laughs.

Yes, I loved "Mr. Magoo!" He was a "classic" Disney actor and a contemporary one.

I didn't know anything about The Swamp Fox. Maybe this should have been posted in Movies/Music/TV. This is HUGE NEWS. And most people here will know him from Airplane!, Naked Gun, etc. He was also in one of my favorite films of all time- Creepshow. Playing a wonderful villain in a creepy role.

I don't know how old he was, but considering he was some kind of heartthrob or whatever when in the 60's (50's?) and had a major career revival in the late 80's (and, if I'm not mistaken, had a great body in the first Naked Gun)... I always thought of him as being not old. It's really sad he's dead after only 22 years of The Naked Gun.

The most important thing is that he really enjoyed living. I don't want to think we all assume that being famous, you have a great life. With the amount of entertainment he gave us, I hope he lived to the fullest.

I will miss him. He was a great star for The Naked Gun.

But Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer will still make parody films. Goddamnit!

Shame. He was awesome. Love him in Airplane. That movie kicked ass.

Very sad. I've long been a fan of Leslie Neilsen, ranging from his earlier work in films like The Reluctant Astronaut to his hilarious roles in more recent films like An American Carol and Scary Movie 4. Even though he lived a fairly long life, his death still comes as quite a surprise. As one of those actors everyone seems to know and love, he'll be missed by many. RIP. :(

He was a great, funny guy. I sm trying to remember what he said to me, I think it was a year or two ago. I asked him how he got into comedy after only having done dramas for so long. He told me some crazy story that had to be a joke, but he did it with a perfectly straight face! If I can rememeber, I'll come back here and post it.

Anyway, with Leslie and Empire Strikes Back director Irvin Kershner both passing away, this has been a pretty bad day. RIP guys. :(
