I caught the film in 3D last night.. and oohhhh I LOVED IT. Ahh, it was so good. I'll do another detailed post later. But let me just say, I think the strongest things that stood out for me in Tangled, had to be the character development, the genuine humor, and the music. Hey, any time you've got Alan Menken involved, you just know there is gonna be something good.
Also.. 'Frying pans! Who knew?' I so think there should have been a Rapunzel/Tangled frying pan
It'd have to come with a warning though.. This is not a toy. Only to be used for cooking, sauteing, and knocking out ruffians, thieves, and sword-wielding horses. Use with Caution.
I'm sure there must be a purple frying pan out there somewhere.. and I can decorate the handle all princess-y lol!

Rapunzel with her hair cut looks an awful lot like Susan in Monsters Vs. Aliens when her hair was still brown.
We don't see Rapunzel get a birthday cake.
Or maybe the lit lantern Flynn gave her was meant to represent one.
In the junior novelization, we're informed Mother Gothel doesn't approve of in-house pets and Pascal blends in with the fireplace mantle (in the film, it was the lantern painting) when she arrives. On a page before this there's a mention of Pascal's bed in Rapunzel's room. Umm?
Rapunzel's parents follow Naveen's parents' example: no talking.

But i loved that Kingdom scene. They were so happy and cheery and Flynn was so cute, he totally lost his arrogance there!

That's awesome. I just saw it for the second time, today. This time, I took my family with me (my parents, three of my four sisters, and the boyfriend of one of the aforementioned sisters). About the box office numbers, on one hand I am surprised, on the other I am not. I am surprised because Harry Potter is still very big and is still attracting people, so I thought Tangled would do less because everyone would still be focused on Harry Potter. On the other hand, Tangled's success isn't that surprising.
Had it been released ALONGSIDE Harry Potter then yeah, it would have been a disaster. But Disney was smart to release it a week after Harry Potter, because by then a great chunk of people had already seen that movie and thus went to see Tangled instead. Tangled was also the only new family film out, and Thanksgiving weekend is a big family holiday. The only two movies out were Burlesque and Faster, two movies that appeal to very different demographics, so the choice was either Harry Potter or Tangled. Megamind was already out so people had already seen that.
The marketing, now that I think about it, was smart. Yeah a lot of us complained that too much focus was placed on Flynn and not enough on Rapunzel, but now that I look back at it, I think it was a smart decision. Tangled really is about Flynn and Rapunzel, much like Princess and the Frog was about Tiana and Naveen. But when marketing that movie, Tiana was the main focus. So little was put on Facilier, Naveen, Louis and all these other great characters. With Tangled, everyone was highlighted, everyone was sold evenly. So its likely that people liked the characters enough to go check them out.
I still think they could have shown some music in it. I mean, I recall some Disney trailers that focused on the story and characters and had brief snippets of songs, not the whole scene.
Finally, let's face it... the 3D helped. Yeah, its an artificial way of adding to the movie's profit. But in my case, I think it was good that they went down the 3D road. It's almost like a necessary evil so that the film's feel good themes doesn't get lost among the other more "hardcore" films.
