Class316 You can't get rid of Maltins commentary whether background or "warning messages" or we'd never get these shorts uncut due to today's "politically correct" atmosphere. They don't bother me as a 30 second to a minute intro or warning is a small price to pay to get everything as it was originally seen. If it took a one hour roundtable discussion with Maltin & others to get SOTS on dvd I'd gladly put up with it. Just be glad it's Maltin & not that right wing nut Michael Medved (who pretends to be a film critic) doing them. THAT would be too much too bear.

Back on topic. I've never been bored by the Disney Treasures. Outside of Davey Crockett I only own the animated ones because as much as I love the material on the others I just don't think I'd watch them enough to make them worth the purchase (but that's just me).

I too will admit they can get dull at times. Sure, I am a Disney fan, but the material can get a little old, fast. Like Mickey's shorts: they all have the same basic storyline, almost like the Flintstones in a way (which I loved as a kid). Maybe, it's just me and my feast for more LOTR, but I would assume my generation would also feel the same way shorts condsidering we don't see them all that often anymore. Being in Canada, I don't get the Disney channel nor the Cartoon Network, so I don't really get the opportunity to view things of this nature. But, put these into historical context, and they can be fun. At least we get to see some of this stuff in our lifetime! Just my 0.02$......

I just figured all the sets were just documentaries not cartoon shorts. I might tey and watch another set then. But that Tomorrowland thing was pretty boring though

i remember falling sleep watching davy crockett. I think it took me 6 watches before i watched the whole episode from beginning to end. I think it was because i like to watch movies in the a dark room with just me, the tv, and my surround sound just like the movies i love the treasures and i will never try to watch them all at once cause they do get bored after a while if viewed this way.

That's the whole point! The pc police basically decides what we can and cannot see. It's an insult!

On the other hand, seeing his bearded face just before a short is just another way of telling me "this is going to be a really funny short"

Also, in the "vault" shorts in OTFL you can't even *forward* through his introduction

I think that it is necesary that Maltin introduce those cartoons that people can misunderstand.

You must remember that there are many nuts out there, and they would maybe find some of the cartoons insulting if they were not explained.

Class316, you have to remember that most people does not know what we know, and many people will take it up in a bad way.

It is in no way meant to insult you, and if you realy are insulted by this you should try and think over the reasons. Remember that there are other people watching the cartoons, and the intros may be for them and not you.

I don't have any of the Treasures, I am interested in Mickey Mouse in color, but I wouldn't buy the second one unless I could get the first one, somehow . They're hard to find, right? The upcoming Pluto one interests me too. Pluto is great

Don't get me wrong, I love Leonard Maltin. But it shouldn't be necessary to have introduction to these movies. It seems that the US is more politically correct than any other place. People are too easily offended by almost anything. Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time understanding this "politically correct" craze.

The warning that bugged me was the Donald cartoon with the penny arcade. He warned it was racy at the time, but tame now....sooooo why did we need a warning ????

well, you really should take a trip to luke's review page. he does excellent reviews on alot of disney dvds. while i don't rely solely on his reviews, i usually like to see what luke thought of a certain dvd after i watch the same just to see his opinion then that way later on when i'm on the fence with a dvd purchase luke's review might be the weighing factor on my decision.

also i have fallen asleep to almost every tin so far. they are so completely packed with toon after toon of the same character that they are a complete library that can get repetitive after seeing the starburst with mickey's head in the middle for the 19th time.

on my projector, i like to play a couple of the shorts from a given tin before or after whatever movie i watch-just like they were played in the theater back in the day

when i am ready to take a nap i like to put in mickey black and white or silly symphonies. i love those old cartoons.
