This is what I watched during Thanksgiving weekend:
Elf: I really love this movie. Might be one of the best modern Christmas films of recent time. It is also my favorite Will Ferrell movie ever.
Deck the Halls: This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine along with Christmas with the Kranks. I know that "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", but I get an odd joy out of these movies. Yeah they are stupid and silly, but they can be very enjoyable.
I also watched Kung Fu Panda Holiday with my nephew again. Still as fun as the first time.
EDIT: Oh yes, I finally caught the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I had to download it, though, due to Direct TV losing all channel signals during the broadcast.

I started off as usual with the Macy's Parade on Thanksgiving, followed by the National Dog Show (not Christmas related, but follows the parade on NBC)
I saw "November Christmas" (new for 2010) on CBS on the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" Sunday night and really enjoyed it. SPOILER:
Due to the nature of the story, I did some research before watching to make sure it would NOT have a depressing tearjerker ending, which thankfully it didn't!
I also saw the touching "Christmas in Canaan" on Hallmark which I enjoyed (I also saw it last year); and "The Dog Who Saved Christmas" and it's "new for 2010" sequel, "The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation" on ABC Family (I thought both were cute but preferred the original)
I saw the Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda specials on NBC.
During the rest of the Holidays I'll be watching:
* The complete cannon of all 18 Rankin/Bass Christmas specials (including the 15 that have been released on DVD)
* A Charlie Brown Christmas and the other Peanuts Christmas specials
* How The Grinch Stole Christmas (animated)
* Mickey's Christmas Carol, The Small One, and the Disney Christmas-related shorts
* Winnie-the-Pooh and Christmas Too
* Annabelle's Wish (a personal favorite)
* A Flintstone Christmas, Yogi's First Christmas, and Santa and the Three Bears
* Other animated Christmas specials I forgot to mention
* The Polar Express
* Prancer and Prancer Returns
* Santa Claus:The Movie
* Various versions of the Scrooge/A Christmas Carol story, including the aforementioned Mickey's Christmas Carol, Muppet Christmas Carol, "Scrooge" 1970 musical with songs by Leslie Bricusse, and "A Christmas Carol - the Musical" with music by Alan Menken
* It's A Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street, both playing on the big screen in New Orleans as part of the Prytania Theatre's Classic Movie Series
* Various live-action TV movies, most notably on Hallmark, ABC Family, and Lifetime
* The Magic Of Christmas at Walt Disney World (a DVD sold at WDW that includes a complete walk-through of the Osborne Lights as a bonus feature)
* Walt Disney World Christmas Parade broadcast on Christmas morning (and seeing it in person a few days later!)

"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag"- Mary Poppins
"How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know"- Pocahontas
"I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether he be six or sixty. Call the child innocence." - Walt Disney

Tonight I watched The Polar Express. As I jokingly said on Facebook and Twitter, I still don't get what the movie is about...
That is because there is no story. Sure there is talk about having faith in stuff even if it doesn't really exist, yadda yadda, but... what is exactly the conflict? A little boy doesn't believe in Santa. What is the emergency there? Is that enough of a conflict that it drives a lot of people to try and change him? I can see how it could be seen as a celebration of childhood innocence and how it sucks when we lose it. But still, there have been better movies that tackle the same subjects, so I don't understand what is the purpose of the story.
Then there's the fact that the movie doesn't know what it wants to be. At times it is lush, beautiful, quiet and serene. The next it is loud, brash, scary and obnoxious. It jumps around with its themes, and it gets bothersome right away.
But the one that really gets me the most is this... This is a train ride. One that transports kids to see Santa Claus in the North Pole. So my question is... why do you place them in a very dangerous path? The train goes out of control, crashes in the ice and its very likely that due to the speed of the train the kids were jumping around like crazy. Worst... the kids take is just fine! They just continue enjoying the ride like nothing ever happened...
...

Actually, this movie has SEVERAL big lipped alligator moments, like when the hobo torments the kid with a puppet, the WHOLE Hot Chocolate scene, the kids singing about the Christmas star, and many more.
Then there's the nature of the train... At first, it looks like it exists to take children who don't believe in Christmas or Santa Claus to meet him. But then you have the kids are excited, especially the black girl who is very excited to go on the ride and BELIEVES in Santa. So...what are the criteria to get on the Polar Express?
I sound like I am nitpicking the hell out of this movie, but it asks so many questions and answers none. Hence why I wonder what it is trying to say.

Wednesday: 12/15: Mystery Science Theater 3000: "Santa Claus""
Tuesday: 12/14: A Christmas Story
Sunday: 12/12: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Friday: 12/10: A Christmas Carol (2009) - Jim Carrey was not terrible as Scrooge (though I would take Alastair Sim any day), but the flying sequences and small scrooge were just a waste of time.
Thursday: 12/9: Miracle on 34th Street (original) - Another great Christmas movie. Nothing more to say.
Tuesday, 12/7: Home Alone (with audio commentary) - A fine Christmas movie, though I can do without the slapstick.
also watched:
Merry Christmas, Mr Beanand Twilight Zone: "Night of the Meek" - More classic Christmas specials.
Sunday, 12/5: A Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, and The Simpsons: "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" -All are classic specials that are a must to watch every year during the holidays.
Friday, 12/3: Elf - Always fun to watch around this time of year. Will Ferrell is great in this film (although the ending is a bit sappy).
also watched:Batman: TAS: "Christmas with the Joker", which is very entertaining.
Wednesday, 12/1: A Christmas Carol (1951) - My first time watching it all the way through. Alastair Sim was great as Scrooge.
Tuesday, 11/30: Die Hard - I know. I know. It's not really a Christmas movie, but it does take place AROUND Christmas. Bruce Willis was good as John, but Alan Rickman gave the best performance as the villian Hans Gruber.
Sunday, 11/28?: Big Bang Theory: "The Bath Gift Item Hypothesis" and Big Bang Theory: 'The Maternal Congruence" - Both are hilarious Christmas-themed episodes, but the first one (when Sheldon gets the napkin signed by Leonard Nimoy) is the best
