You and I are just going to have to agree to disagree I guess, because she IS being in character. Gothel is not exactly the most "proper" speaker in the world-- "Mumsy?" "Dummy?" etc. I'm sure she's given Rapunzel plenty of examples of slang, aside from allllll those books the girl reads....and like I said before, since the target audience for this movie is children, Rapunzel needs to be a girl little kids, especially little girls, can relate to.
So are you saying Gothel speaks like a 2010 teenager? Because the slang Gothel uses doesn't sound like the teenage talk Rapunzel is using.

You said something before about her being "too real"---that has to be the first time I have ever heard someone complain that a fictional character is too realistic. That sense of "she could be an actual person you could meet in real life" is what EVERY storyteller strives for! Whether or not you like that person is up to you, but I'll never understand how making a character too lifelike and easy to relate to could ever be less than amazing.
You misunderstood me. The more lifelike she is, the better. The more realistic and believable as a character she is, the better. But when you make her a modern teen and then put her in the setting of this movie it actually makes her less real because it doesn't fit right.

Also, I did not say she was "too real". I said they did not have to make her a real girl from 2010 that you would meet at the mall.

Amazing trailer. I totally wish this would have been the second American trailer. Audiences are going to be confused since the trailers here have been guaranteeing a Shrek-style version of Rapunzel.

The only thing about this trailer: When Rapunzel says, "I have magic hair that glows", I couldn't keep from laughing. AT the line, not because of it. Does it really come off that cheezy in the film?

Now who's misunderstanding? Of course Gothel doesn't talk "like a teenager"---but, shockingly, there are plenty of adults who say "like" and "freak out" and whatnot.

And as I said before--whether or not you like that kind of personality is up to you, but it is what it is. She's just a happy-go-lucky kind of girl.

EDIT: Gandalf, that line is pretty funny, and I think it's supposed to be; when Rapunzel first tells Flynn she has magic hair, he looks at her like she's insane!

Here's a part of the german end credit song. I was wrong and it is indeed only a (really bad) cover of "I see the light". Now I wish, we would get the original credit song. :(

Interesting article from the New York Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/21/movie ... .html?_r=1

This quote is particular "hmm...":
The name change seemed to reek of corporate interference — exactly what Mr. Lasseter had promised to banish. Then trailers for the movie played down the musical elements, prompting fresh complaints. Mr. Lasseter said he was confident in the marketing decisions, particularly the call about music. “I didn’t want people to rush to categorize it — ‘Oh, that’s one of those Disney musicals,’ ” he said.
Yep, instead people are quickly categorising it as a Shrek-type flick. He also refers to Tangled having the "Disney essence." Somebody has been reading Duster's posts, me thinks.

Like it or not, Shrek-type films make serious $$. Traditionally animated Disney musicals haven't proved that recently, regardless of quality. The first trailer that people hated is not the tone of the film, but rather the tone of what Disney Marketing wants the general public to think it is. Which happens in cinema quite often.

Oh God... not the Essence, anything but the Essence.

From a business standpoint I completely understand why he'd prefer people calling it 'like Shrek', instead of 'like those Princess movies'. Especially when comparing Shrek's box office numbers to recent Disney (Princess) movies. But from what I've seen and heard so far 'like Shrek' doesn't really do it justice.

Rapunzel pretty much blurts it out in the movie after Flynn says something more revealing. Flynn, of course, looks at her like she's crazy.

Wow. It's beautiful. They really have good taste for marketing movies in Japan. And BTW, it does look sort of like a painting in my opinion.

Manny the Movie Guy reviews Tangled. Long story short, he loved it! He called it one of the best animated movies of the year.

Here is his full review:

"finer than frogskin."

Jackoleen

Well, they could've made him look slightly different.

Dear Disney Enthusiasts,

While I don't think that Dimitri and Flynn look almost exactly alike (Dimitri sports an even more clean-shaven, young, less experienced physical appearance), bradhig, I will agree that The Disney Company COULD'VE made Flynn look even MORE different, and even less stereotypical, than he looks right now.

They could've added a mustache to him, given him red hair, etc. Honestly, MOST animated human Disney heroes sport brown, or dark hair, a typically lean, strong physique, a bare, Midwestern-esque, properly clean-shaven (for the 50s, anyway) face, etc. Note that not even one of Snow White's dwarfs sported a mustache, even though they almost all had beards! Try telling ME that all miners wear beards, but not mustaches. Ha! I live in mining country, and everybody sort of has their own style; the grand irony is, of course, that most of the much older miners from this area ARE the clean-shaven types.

No. The Disney Company was always fearful of offending good Americans during World War Two, and ever since, they've been creating heroes who are, with regards to their LOOKS, at least, "morally sound, clean-shaven good guys".

I am all for going against the common stereotype, and I doubt that we've seen a mustached, animated Disney hero, so here's to such a new hero during the future! <toasts>!

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Dear Disney Enthusiasts,

I think that it'd actually be cool if someone WERE reading some of our ideas, including Disney Duster's idea about "the Disney essence".

Thank you in advance for your replies.

? Dimitri is so ugly  that's a difference enough.

If anything, he reminds me more of Aladdin (long hair, big noses, huge puppy dog eyes, and air of confidence).
