New Disney Short Lorenzo to Premiere at Florida Film Fest 2004
February 19, 2004
As Disney enters the Oscar home stretch with the acclaimed DESTINO, the studio will soon unveil its next animated short, LORENZO, at Florida Film Festival 2004 in Orlando. This five-minute black comedy about a fat and sassy cat terrorized by its own tail into a fit of ballroom dancing will have its world premiere March 6 at 12:00 noon at the Enzian Theater. LORENZO will screen again on March 10 at 7:00 pm and March 12 at 9:15 pm.
Based on an original idea by 95-year-old legend Joe Grant, LORENZO was written, designed and directed by Mike Gabriel (POCAHONTAS and THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER). Roy Disney and Baker Bloodworth, who collaborated on DESTINO, once again serve as exec producer and producer, with veteran Don Hahn (LION KING) joining as exec producer.
Gifted artist Gabriel hand painted all of the backgrounds for this 2D/3D hybrid in a bold color pallet, according to Bloodworth, using Tempera paints on black construction paper. He was aided by Sable, a painterly renderer for expressive 3D brush strokes, created by Daniel Teece.
Traditional animation and cleanup was performed at Walt Disney Feature Animation Paris (DESTINO), which has since been shuttered, while all painting, digital technology and post were done at Walt Disney Feature Animation Burbank.

Hmmm...you could be right.disneyfella wrote:my guess is this is another completed segment of what would have been Fantasia 2006 (just like the One by One film on the upcoming Simba's Pride dvd). what a pity that it isn't happening.
It is a shame that it isn't happening, as the Fantasia concept is something I always dug. In fact, I have a feeling that Fantasia may have been the first Disney film I saw. Really, it is something that animation was built for - sometimes far-out images articulating something you can't do with live action.
Hopefully this, and some of the other concepts, will appear on the DVD that is supposed to contain Destino (which I am REALLY looking forward to).
At least One by One has an appropriate forum for release.

A teaser for Lorenzo, the Oscar nominated short originally made for the next Fantasia, is now available online, merci to Animated News: http://mag.awn.com/issue9.02/9.02clips/Lorenzo.mov
Now this is animation! It's so beautiful! Too bad it lost to that Pixar short.....and that it won't be in Fantasia.
I'm so hyped!!! Can't wait to see it on video, cause I sure as hell am not going go to Raising Helen just to see this, although it definitely looks worth a view!!!!

what gives with Disney? they'll release animated sequels into theatres but they wont release these shorts as a full length feature
I heard that the movie had it been made would've included Lorenzo, One by One, Destino and some segment featuring Sebastian the Crab. that wouldve been fun to see.
I dont like the idea of having all of these shorts disorganized onto different movies, in fact it bothers me when I see a old Disney short added as a special feature onto other DvDs like Oliver and Company

Wow, me like! Thanks for that link... it seemed to be a lil promotional clip, I assume that's what it was? Great animation there, very funky look. It's a shame they aren't doing another Fantasia, between this, Destino and that One by One short, the next Fantasia may have been a really, really great film.
Now that I've seen this clip and the Runaway Brain on the Treasures set, it almost seems to me that Disney should go back to their roots and start producing shorts again for a little while. Really great stuff!

How did Fantasia 2000 do in the box office?
I'm surprised about the theatrical running... it's been so long since I've seen a short run before a movie in the theaters.

I'm just out the door to see Day After Tomorrow (quality Hollywood schlockfest! w00t!), but I'm gonna go into the Raising Helen theatre beforehand to check it out. If it's there, that is.
So that's the easiest answer for trailers or shorts ya wanna see, but don't wanna support the film with it; theatre-hopping, baby!
Anyway, I'll let ya know when I get home.
