I'll have to watch Spash before getting it.
I really don't think I will be picking up this one.

Splash was a very good movie.
The movie was very funny.
This two disc special editon DVD should be really good.
You should check it out.

I probably haven't seen it since it came out in the theater 20 years ago. I remember liking it at the time. Then again I was 12, and Darryl Hannah was easy on the eyes.

Anyway, Ive never seen it (or even heard of it), but it says it's about a mermaid and naturally that caught my interest!

Had anyone seen it and know if it's a good movie? Thanks!

You've never seen "Splash"?????????

I thought it was one of those movies everyone has seen in some point of their lives

Anyway, it was a considerable hit back in 1984. It's with Daryl Hana (spelling?) and Tom Hanks... It's a very nice film and was produced by Disney's very own "Touchstone Pictures" as I recall.

I was just in Daring To Dream and in the Splash page there is pictures of a deleted scene with a sea hag (a sea witch?),what is that scene? what's happing in it? and who's that hag?.

Dear Disney Enthusiasts,

SPOILER WARNING FOR THE 1984 TOUCHSTONE/ DISNEY MOVIE "SPLASH"!

I once watched the movie "Splash" with someone from my family, and they said that Tom Hanks' character must have died at the end of the movie! I was shocked, and the person with whom I'd watched the movie explained their opinion to me.

They said that at the beginning of the movie, the young version of the main character had jumped into the water, and that he'd almost died, until Madison had saved him. They then said that at the end of the movie, the main character had absolutely NO escape from trouble, and that if he chose to go with Madison, he'd have to jump into the water with her, and that he'd have to stay underwater FOREVER. She was implying that the underwater world was equated with death, and that since Madison had saved the guy from death at the beginning of the movie, her invitation at the END of the movie must have been an invitation of suicide, since the guy had nowhere to turn, anyway.

Chilling! I'd never even thought about the movie in that way! Has anybody else ever come to that conclusion?

Erm, I think that associating this film and its ending with suicide is reading too deeply into the film, and at a wrong angle no less. Splash is basically a modern fairy tale, and I think that implications of suicide is out of the question in such a light-hearted film. Tom Hanks' character went in to the water initially out of desperation and love to try and protect Madison from the army divers, but I think that Madison's kiss simply allowed him to magically breathe underwater (after all, a kiss can work wonders in a romantic fairy tale

). Now, I know that Andersen's "Little Mermaid", which acts as the film's inspiration, is very much about life, death and love, but Splash is a fantasy rom-com along the lines of Enchanted. Only the premise of a mermaid crawling onto land to find a man she saved is really shared between Andersen's tale and the film; comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Either way, the idea of them swimming away from adversity struck me simply as a fairly standard sort of happily ever after.

Oh, and one last thing; it's Touchstone's Splash, not Disney's.
