Lady Gaga is actually a good singer. It's that wacky path she's taken that annoys me. I still haven't figured out my feelings about this movie (looking too much like Toy Story and so many movies have had a Romeo and Juliet twist , but it doesn't look HORRIBLE, like people are making it sound. )

I'd love to go completely in depth in this whole thing, but these damn essays are too long. I have no time for that type of discussions. I've made my feelings on Gaga clear and the whole back and forth thing rarely goes anywhere.

So without name-calling I side Goliath for the Bob Dylan tribute. Now that's a true musician and artist. Also a superior songwriter.

Again a little disclaimer to remind everyone: this is merely my opinion. I don't hate on anyone or condescend or whatever, it's just the internet guys. Isn't that what Gaga preaches about as well? Love to all the little monsters and stuff like that? Well, there ya go.

Lady Gaga is a kind of mimic, yes. In visual style. But she's also a mirror to show everyone how cheap inside we've become. Which she does without using religion to judge people. She sings love songs that aren't about love. Songs about fame that aren't glorifying it. Sex songs with violent imagery. Relationship songs about the impossibility to connect. She has a lot to say, but no one talks about it. Instead, they reduce everything she does to: she's an attention whore. Why shouldn't someone come along and say something about those people?

All I can say is that, if I've learned anything from the Kei$ha topic ( ), it's best to not be derogatory toward or directive about your dislike of someone else's musical tastes. Should just post "I don't like her/him, here's why" and move on, and don't target anyone specifically or use unnecessarily condescending/inflammatory language.. But, yes, it would be preferrable if the "here's why" wasn't based on the person's public persona (or what someone thinks someone else is like).

Music and politics seem to be the most touchy topics...

I guess it comes down to people not liking to have their taste ridiculed in any way. But I can take serious, constructive, intelligent criticism... If it were to ever come.

I never saw the performance OF the music itself as being anything more than subjective. I technically don't care how good a singer's voice is unless they are generating the music themselves (a capella, beatbox, etc). At least- not when it comes to club or dance music. The sound of the music will always be more important to me. How well the music is performed. When you focus on that, you really stop paying attention to completely trivial things like whether or not they process voices through a computer, etc. A singer's voice is not what puts you in a mood- the music gets to you first. That's one thing you can always rely on. The singer goes along with the music. So, even their style of singing is determined by the music itself.

Anyway, just about the only reason I got involved in this discussion in the first place is that I saw a pattern of members on this board saying Lady Gaga is disturbed or screwed up as a person just because she dresses strange. That is a highly stupid viewpoint to take and I think people like that have no right taking a high and mighty attitude about anything.

As for Bob Dylan... I truly don't believe his goal is to make dance music or club tracks, so it seems to me he has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion whatsoever. Of course; that's just me.

You're not a true Pop icon until you've elicited a reaction from music snobs. Good job, Gaga. So much of the comments in this thread were also said of Cher, Madonna and Britney. She's in good company.
