I was actually thinking about this today and unfortunately I'm leaning towards not doing it this year. I know that it would be sad to end the tradition after seven fun years. But from what I've seen the forum hasn't had the activity and sense of community it has in years past (I'm as much to blame for that as everyone who's lightened making worthwhile posts). And with all that I'm doing to run the site almost single-handedly during the ultra-busy holiday season stretch, I just don't see myself having the time to do all that is entailed as I feel I'd have to if we were to do it. I get the feeling that only a handful of regular/longtime members would be interested and if we limited it to them maybe that would help. But really, this would have to be setup in the next few days or so, so I'm not hopeful it can be done. I guess this thread can gauge interest and feelings on the matter.

Hopefully if it's a smaller affair with regulars/longtime Secret Santas (e.g. only those who've done it in the past and are still actively posting), it can work out. Truth be told, I always enjoy shopping for my Secret Cindy Lou Who more than receiving a gift from my Secret Santa! But if it can't be done this year for a variety of reasons, I totally understand.

Yeah I agree, I would be very interested in a Secret Santa 2010 even if it just limits members/regulars/long time secret santa who are still activley posting like you said.

But if it can't be done due to time restraints and timing and everything, perhaps I also would understand. I wouldn't like it but I also understand and will accept the position Luke is in. I have a suggestion, what if someone would help the process like this year you have an elf whose a mod or someone who could help with things, or could there be a torch passed this year if someone else is willing and able to do it with Luke's Blessing, My nominees would Be Aaron Wallace, Escapay, CJ, Pinkrenata, or Disney Kid but with Luke's Blessing maybe someone else could do it perhaps if someone has the time and all?

And Also if it doesnt' happen this year? does that mean it will never happen again or there's a possibility of next year?

I hope it goes on this year. I've never been able to participate before and this year I was kind of hoping to. But, whatever works for you Luke is okay with me.

I'm sad that it's not looking likely and I would have been potentially interested in participating this year, even though technically hopping between two addresses in two different (though reasonably nearby) countries may make it difficult. The only time I had previously entered into the scheme was in 2005 (wasn't around in 2003, was relatively new and wasn't too confident about going for it in 2004, didn't do it in 2006 for some reason I can't quite recall, wasn't posting/visiting the forum in general that much towards the end of 2007 and most of 2008, and missed the deadline out of personal preoccupation with academic stuff last year). If we do do it, however, I would suggest limiting it to around 20 people, or alternatively make a very limited time frame to sign up, like 24-36 hours. And then of course, said participants ought to have been reasonably well established and/or trust-worthy. And if Luke can't run it, then I'd also suggest a mod or equally very prominent member (though naturally said person should volunteer and not just get pushed to do it).

Either way, if it happens, hurray! If it doesn't, then it's not the end of the world, and I hope it may start up again in the future. :) Heck, instead of having Secret Santa, why don't we have the first Secret Easter Bunny, whereby we send delicious Easter eggs to each other (or maybe Milk Buds or popcorn?). :p Or maybe Secret Valentine, where we profess our undying love for certain UDers. :minnie:  Or perhaps even Secret St Patrick, whereby we all send each other alcoholic beverages, in the hope that we'll all get fashionably legless somewhere, somehow. :thumb:

I agree.

I second this motion, if only to get more Milk Buds.
Wondy wrote:Or maybe Secret Valentine, where we profess our undying love for certain UDers. :minnie:
But shouldn't we profess our love during the other 364 days of the year rather than just one? :P

For example: I love Jane Mccoy and Kram Nebuer more than anyone else on this forum. :P

But you don't need Secret St. Patrick for that. You can just play the UD Drinking Game and not have to share your alcohol with anyone.

I was really looking forward to doing Secret Santa again this year too. Hopefully, Luke changes his mind.

So, I see six would-be sign-ups here. A small turnout would help but I think that gets to be too small. Anyone else wanting us to do this this year?

Maybe a way to gauge if there's interest would be to send an email around to those who participated in the past couple years? At least the members who are still active.

I'd be willing to participate in Secret Santa again. I've always had a great time participating in it the past few years.

Aww, that's too bad. I've never been here for a Secret Santa, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about!

I participated for the first time last year and had a lot of fun doing it. I haven't had a lot of time to post lately (though I still come by to check out all the news every week), but if possible, I would like to participate again if it's happening.

I would love to participate this year, especially since I had a lot of fun. But unfortunately, I am COMPLETELY broke this year.

There's a good chance I would participate. :) I totally understand though if you can't do Secret Santa.

(Just be sure to change the colors of the forum to holiday colors, please! I love it when you do it every year!)

I would love to participate in Secret Santa again. I participated in it last year, and it was always fun to see who got who and find a gift for your special person. If we did it again, I would definitely participate! :)

I don't think that I would be able to participate this year...money is really tight... :( But I always enjoyed it in the years that I did participate!
