As some of you might know I'm working on a big Disney site that will be put online in some weeks (or more, it depends). Now I'm adding content to the pages and I sometime am very "stuck" when it comes to Disney releases. Now I have this problem:
What are sequels, and what aren't? I mean, "Tarzan & Jane" is not a sequel because it's a compilation of the series. But what about "Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin"? Is that a sequel? What about the other pooh movies, are they sequels?
So, can anyone help me out with the real sequels list here? It's so confusing and I got a lot of other things on my head now... I would really appreciate the help
Although I claim Tarzan and Jane (for example) isn't a proper sequel (and I still maintain it isn't and shouldn't be critically evaluated as one), to all intents and purposes it is, because (sadly) that's how Disney promotes it.
So, reluctantly, I would say that they are all sequels.
I think I will go with the "Other Animation" term like here at UD. It's just very confusing and I don't feel like researching all of this, people can make up their mind theirselves if it's a sequel or not! Anyway, thanks for the help
Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin is considered the sequel to The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. According to the plot, Christopher Robin goes off to school. If you remember the ending to Many Adventures, you see how they are connected. As for all of those holiday and seasons junk, I doubt it. Wouldnt surprise me if they pasted related episodes from the New Adventures series into a measly video.
And as for the Tigger, Piglet, and Hempalump movies, I think that theyre more connected to the TV show. I wouldnt think any kids from my generation or younger ever heard of the 1977 Disney film. I didnt know if was a feature length film myself.
Winnie The Pooh is an established franchise, that's like asking if a Mickey Mouse short would be considered a sequel because it follows a prior theatrical film release... Just because the characters that were based on earlier works, are featured or starring again in a certain production, does not classify such a sequel. By definition, a sequels is "a literary, dramatic, or cinematic work whose narrative continues that of a preexisting work." If the storyline, plot, movement, scenario and general design or theme of a film does not progress or develop from a previously adapted story structure, than it should not be categorized as a sequel.
Well, It's not easy with all these movies. I would have kept the TV-series editions for themselves, and the real sequels for themselves. Tarzan and Jane is from the TV-series. Winnie the Pooh also has DVD's like this. (Spookable Pooh / Frankenpooh)
And i suggest you keep the short-compilations for themselves (ex Mickeys Once Upon a Christmas, Snowed in at the House of Mouse...)
I'm working on an norwegian Disney-database. It's not finished at all, and I'm not sure it ever will be.
I've made the categories as Disney's own:
Walt Disney Classics
Movie Toons
Disney Video Premiere
Disney / Pixar
you can see for yourself. (the language is norwegian, but you'll understand the system...)
Nice work, but with help from snowbot (he is really helpfull) I managed to get a great structure for the movie database. Of course the movie database is not all, have to figure out something for the other sections too
