7th Annual UltimateDisney/DVDizzy Forum Awards - CEREMONY

Post by Escapay »

Welcome one and all to the 7th Annual Ultimate Disney Forum Awards!

Tonight and every night this week (save maybe Wednesday ;)), we celebrate the past year and a half at the UltimateDisney/DVDizzy forums! There's been many new members, even a few returning ones, and plenty of regulars who still keep this place a-jumpin' in excitement, controversy, and occasional pantslessness courtesy of Australia. Ultimate Disney and DVDizzy have merged under one domain, but the spirit of Disney and the high quality we come to expect in reviews is still ever present. And let's not forget the great ceremonies of the past, with Joan Rivers and Disney Guru and those wild and crazy after parties! All this and more will be celebrated throughout the week, along with a couple surprises here and there. This year marks my first as the host of the Ultimate Disney Forum Awards, I certainly hope I do the role justice after the many years with Aaron Wallace at the helm. So join me in the Off-Topic Hall, sit back, relax, and grab your popcorn and milk buds. Better get ready to hear, better get ready to cheer, for the One and Only, Genuine, Original <strike>Family Band</strike> Forum Awards!

And now, without further ado, let the ceremony begin!

Hey, Escapay, could you please post the links to the 6 previous Forum Awards Ceremonies? The 'search' function is not working for me lately.
Here ya go, sotiris!

1st Annual UD.com MB Awards - this is especially notable as being not only the first, but the entire process from nominations to voting to the ceremony is all in this thread! 6 whole pages!

2nd Annual UD.Com Forum Awards CEREMONY - at this point, the awards got more organized and more attention, and several of the traditions of future awards began here. Presentation speeches that weren't just "and the nominees are...and the award goes to..." and Joan Rivers had their start. "Poll/Game of the Year" and "Breaking News/Event of the Year" were added to the roster of categories, as well as the idea of Special Awards.

3rd Annual UD Forum Awards - Ceremony - at this awards ceremony, the statue for the Golden Mickey is unveiled! In addition, forum members now write the Presentation speeches!

4th Annual UD Forum Awards - CEREMONY - this is the infamous ceremony that took up 20 pages in only two weeks, making it the longest thread in the shortest time (past ceremonies took a month and never reached 20 pages). The idea of the after-party began here, though its roots were planted during last year's awards.

5th Annual UD/DVDizzy Forum Awards - Ceremony - not since the first awards did we have so short a thread (6 pages). In addition, the awards kept coming at us in a 1-2 punch that the whole ceremony only lasted a few days! Highlights of the ceremony included not having "Controversial Topic of the Year" for the first time, Special Awards that were noteworthy ("Recognition of Outstanding UD Community Membership Despite Many Medical Concerns at a Young Age") and fun ("Forum Member You'd Like To Have A Brain Transplant With So You Can Acquire All Their Knowledge And Fun Little Quirks"), and the introduction of Super Sophomore.

6th Annual UltimateDisney/DVDizzy Forum Awards - Ceremony - we shivered with antici

pation! After the normal nomination and voting process, the awards were delayed until October. There was speculation on who could take over if Aaron was too busy, and names like PeterPanfan and mine cropped up as substitute host. Instead, I started giving out unauthorized Golden Mickeys for silly categories like Towel of the Year. But the awards eventually started and everyone was excited! DVDizzy got its own category for Review of the Year, 2099net received his fourth consecutive "Most Intelligent Member of the Year" award, and blackcauldron85 was the first female to win "UltimateDisney Member of the Year"!

I'll be back later with the first award, but until then, enjoy reading past awards, buy more milk buds, and remember what the crow said:

Presenting the first Golden Mickey of the evening is everyone's favorite Puerto Rican, jolly pap64!

Signature of the Year

Like the avatars, signatures are extensions of an user's personality. But it offers far more freedom in what you can present in it. There is more room as to what you can present, further elaborating your desires, your thoughts, your wants and even your most hated thing. Whether it's a personal wedding invitation or a plea to put a theater star on a TV show, these signatures leave a deep impression in our minds. The nominees for signature of the year are...

blackcauldron85: Disney Couples

Disney's Divinity: Beauty and the Beast

enigmawing: Wedding Announcement

jpanimation: Fantasia World

Let us now welcome to the stage a very licious person, the one and only Wonderlicious!

Discussion Forum of the Year

Image:
Hello everyone, let me present to you the nominations for discussion forum of the year.

(The nominated forums all come out onto the stage)

Yes, these are the forums where all the fun discussions take place! First we have Disney Discussion, where everything has something to do

(Disney Discussion whispers into Wondy's ear)

And the right colours for Beauty and the Beast.

(Disney Discussion whispers into Wondy's ear again)

And milk buds, and popcorn.

Anyway, next we have the Off-Topic forum, a place to chat about our lives, our more general interests, politics, history.

(Off Topic whispers into Wondy's ear again)

And a place to argue, yes.

Anyway, next to Disney Theme Parks, a place to chat about those magic kingdoms on land and sea, but so far not in the air!

(Disney Theme Parks whispers into Wondy's ear)

Except on Dumbo. Yes, that's true. And now on to - oh, what's that?

(There is a loud crash. On comes International DVD forum, angry and upset. He whispers into Wondy's ear)

Pourquoi n'étais tu invité? Can you say that in English?

(International DVD whispers into Wondy's ear again)

Warum hast du keine Nominierung? I did tell you to talk in English, but that means "why don't you have a nomination", doesn't it?

(International DVD nods aggressively)

I'm really sorry, but you're in the minority! Most of the people who come on this board are from the States, so less people are going to vote for you!

(International DVD whispers into Wondy's ear)

Cuánto? How many?

(International DVD nods)

Erm...one. That was me.

(International DVD starts to walk off. He pushes Polls and Games over)

Oh no! You've hurt Polls and Games! I didn't even get a chance to do an introduction! You've really hurt him!

(A new thread appears on International DVD titled "Je vous déteste!". Wondy opens it)

"Yeah, sole pity voter Licious, I've chosen to hurt rather than heal." Well, I never. How rude.

(Polls and Games runs off crying, Disney Discussion and Off Topic follow. International DVD walks over to a jukebox in the corner and starts to play Celine Dion's version of "All By Myself")

Okay, I'll try and present the last nominee, Movies, Music and TV. A forum with obviously better musical tastes than one over there. So there you have it, the -

(A DVD mysteriously zooms on the stage, and punctures Disney Theme Parks in the side. International DVD turns off the jukebox and runs off, terrified at the sight)

What's going on?

(General DVD Discussion and Trade appear, fuming that they weren't nominated)

YOU TWO! Don't you see what you've done? Just because you weren't nominated, doesn't mean that you can sabotage the event!

(The two wicked forums laugh, as Feedback appears dressed as Rambo)

Feedback? What's happened to you?

(Feedback starts to shoot milk buds and popcorn at everyone. Everyone runs out screaming, as the police are called by an innocent bystander. Wondy is seen quivering in the corner by the jukebox, having put on "It's the End of the World as We Know It" by R.E.M.)

Sorry for all this mayhem. The awards stage should be fine for the next award. Once again, the nominees are...

Disney Discussion
Off Topic
Polls and Games
Disney Theme Parks
Movies, Music and TV

And the winner is...

Disney Discussion
Image
This is Disney Discussion's 4rd Golden Mickey Award. The forum previously won in 2008 and 2009, and as "General Discussion" in 2004.

Congratulations! If only everything were safe for the winner to get this shiny award. Oh, oh no -

(Feedback finds Wondy hiding behind the jukebox, and is about to destroy him, when Feedback falls to the ground. A tranquiliser has got him, and it was International DVD who shot him. International DVD walks onto the stage with Disney Discussion.)

Wow, you rescued me, International DVD. And you've brought Disney Discussion on to accept the award. Gracias, Danke, Merci.

(Wondy passes Disney Discussion the award. A reformed International DVD watches on, with tears in his eyes)

Congratulations, Disney Discussion! Tune in for even more awards later this evening.

We welcome back pap64 as he introduces our next award, Best Message Board Idea of the Year!

Best Message Board Idea of the Year

Image:
It can be hard to run a very active community like Ultimate Disney. You have to watch out for the well being of the users and make sure the rules are followed. This involves making decisions that ensure that everything runs smoothly and everyone is happy, even if said members often disagree with them. These are the ideas that have made a big difference in how the forums are enjoyed, and the users are forever grateful for that course of action being taken. The nominees for best message board idea are...

Closing of Various, Overheated, & Ridiculous Threads (UD Moderators: 2099net, AwallaceUNC, CJ, Luke, Pinkrenata, indianajp)
CJ's Closing of "What's your religion?" and "The necessary derailment" thread (UD Moderator CJ)
Best Songs of the Decade (Lazario)
Secret Santa 2009 (Luke)

And the Golden Mickey goes to...

"A Salute to Disney's Halloween Television Specials" by Aaron Willcott (October 2009)

"The Great Best Picture Oscars Project" by Luke Bonanno (April 2010)

And the Golden Mickey goes to...
