Well.....I saw it.
I can't even properly describe how I feel right now, and I need some time to let the details wash over me & settle in, but--I cried at the end, and I wasn't the only one. Fear not XD
I'll come back later with more, I just have to digest a bit. <3
I will leave you with this--"Skip the drama, stay with Mama!"

I love that quote, phan258.
I really hope Disney is delicate in handling Gothel and Rapunzel's relationship. I hope they don't make Rapunzel hate Gothel too much at the end, but have her feel somewhat sad that her "mother" wasn't perfect, that her life was tragic, etc. It'll just really make me dislike Rapunzel if she completely reverses her feelings for Gothel by the end. I mean, yes, Gothel does deserve what's coming to her, and, yes, she did use Rapunzel, but I don't think that completely devalues the mother-daughter relationship they've had.
If they handle it well, this could possibly top Frollo and Quasimodo.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
my thoughts exactly Disney's Divinity I hope that they just don't take an interesting mother-daughter setup and end it with a typical hero-villain outcome.
my dream ending~ would be gothel to realize that even though she first took rapunzel for selfish reasons, at the end she realizes that she actually loves and the reason she grew so attached to her and didn't want her to leave was because she couldn't live without her and R ends up living happily ever after with a unique blended family situation haha
lol well who knows what happens

So I just finished writing about 10 pages of notes in my little black & white composition notebook, just trying to put to paper everything I possibly could before I forgot it. I could take this information and either draft a huuuuge, spoilerific write-up OR just try to summarize as best I can....I would like to address some things and share my thoughts on some issues, like the concern over the mother-daughter relationship--but again, there would be spoilers galore. What would you guys like?
While many of us would prefer to be spoiler free, if you really want to talk about something there is an option of hiding the spoiler text. Just select "Font Color", then "white" and then write inside the code the spoilers.phan258 wrote:So I just finished writing about 10 pages of notes in my little black & white composition notebook, just trying to put to paper everything I possibly could before I forgot it. Regarding what I would like to know, I am interested in learning if Tangled improves upon Princess and the Frog. Is the movie as hip and edgy as the trailers imply it is? How are the character relationships handled? Is the music memorable and does it help in developing the story and characters?

Maybe you can write a huge write up and put in a document and put it up on megafile or something to download?phan258 wrote:So I just finished writing about 10 pages of notes in my little black & white composition notebook, just trying to put to paper everything I possibly could before I forgot it. We could've had a new renaissance right here after "The Princess and the Frog", but no, they never gave another chance. Looks like we're losing Disney's classic magic.
This was one major point I want to address--after seeing the movie, I can absolutely understand, and totally agree with, the decision to make this with CGI. Rapunzel's hair is AMAZING, lush and detailed and just fabulous, in a way that 2D would never have been able to achieve. I read somewhere, in one of the interviews out there, that 2D hair would have been a "yellow blob" onscreen--and they're right. CGI did it justice.
Also the megaupload idea is a good suggestion, thanks! I've never used MU before but I'll give it a shot.

You're forgetting that 2D animation was what Disney's meant to be. Sure it will make her hair less lively than 3D, but... you know, I think you got a point there. You've gotten lucky, phan258. (Plus, Rapunzel would've looked better in 2D animation. Just saying.)phan258 wrote: This was one major point I want to address--after seeing the movie, I can absolutely understand, and totally agree with, the decision to make this with CGI. The film was never meant to look just like 2D. The intent was that it was supposed to be CGI that looks more like 2D. In other words, it's still supposed to be CGI looking but more painterly. That was the design concept for this film. In ways I think they succeeded, but due to time restraints had to focus on getting the film done.

While I agree to using the white font to hide spoilers, I'd also like to point out that casually scattering huge numbers of spoilers in the middle of otherwise spoiler-free paragraphs and sentences can be annoying.pap64 wrote:While many of us would prefer to be spoiler free, if you really want to talk about something there is an option of hiding the spoiler text. What I'd suggest you do, phan258, is to write a review as free of spoilers as possible - no big reveal about the ending, no real description of plot past the first act.
Having said that, I'd love to know about the songs. Perhaps not in great depth, but rather as what their melodies are like, whether the characters sing them (with their own lips or as a voice over) and whether they're any good. I'd also like to know whether or not it seems such a smart-ass boy's flick (it can be a simple yes/no answer, btw). And moreover...
...TELL US WHETHER OR NOT YOU ENJOYED IT!
