With Roy not around, who knows if the “bad” Mickey B&W stuff will make it on DVD at all, much less make it intact. I fear Eisner will stain that DVD with his filthy paws
Disney Treasures and censorship
Disney Treasures and censorship
For a change I think Disney deserves applause here. Though I take it it’s a lot more of Roy’s doing that anyone else. Despite Disney’s horrid history of desecrating DVDs (and in some cases lying about it), and despite 3 out of 4 tins from wave 1 being censored in some form, these latest tins amazingly came over 100% intact!! Hell, even that black caricature from “The Autograph Hound” managed to make it through

So enjoy all these uncensored cartoons!!

Agreed, and I think Disney does a good job of pointing out where the messages are unacceptable. They did it on Tomorrowland to where an animated man is knocked unconcious and then salivates over a half naked picture of Marylin Monroe. Although, to be honest I did not think that was too bad, the autograph hound one does need an explanation/apology.

First and foremost, they serve as a spoiler. They ruin key punch lines in cartoons that I haven’t seen in almost 20 years!!
Second, they are basically telling us what we can and cannot see! This is in fact an insult.
Would be nice if we could choose not to have to look at the “warning” messages but still see the ones where he gives historical background.

I agree with you guys. Yesterday I spent over 4 hours home-alone watching from head to toe the Treasures set of ON THE FRONT LINE. I was truly impressed for the SELF RESPECT shown by Disney in this case. The content of the shorts is very strong and I am glad that Leonard Maltin gave proper introductions to some of the films with the touchiest subjects:
DER FEUHRER'S FACE
EDUCATION FOR DEATH
REASON AND EMOTION
CHICKEN LITTLE
By the way, I think that CHICKEN LITTLE is an extraordinary film. And it is the anti-thesis of Disney: The Villain is "viller" than ever. And the characters and their "fate" is so so so so not Disney. I mean: so different!
I am glad that they brought it from the vault.
Touche this time, Mr. Disney!

However, I'm not sure why they included Chicken Little with the more serious Der Feuhrer's Face & Education For Death. I think it should have been on a "specials" collection.quasi72 wrote:By the way, I think that CHICKEN LITTLE is an extraordinary film. Thanks for the plug for my website, Class316.
By the way everyone, look for Davy Crockett inserts sometime next week. And as far as I can tell, that set was the only one that didn't get edited in Wave 1.

Walt Disney Treasures - Custom Disney DVD Inserts
np. And yes, Davy Crockett is 100% uncensored. I don't know why so many hate it. It's my favorite of all non-short treasures.Tannerman wrote:Thanks for the plug for my website, Class316.

Interesting list of stuff about censoring in the Mickey Mouse colour shorts... some of the cuts I recall seeing back in the 80s (mainly blackface and smoking/tobacco related) and some of them I don't (especially the Duck pulling a gun during Magician Mickey and Mickey's Amateurs) which suggests they may well have been "altered" quite a long time ago in readiness for any showing on TV.
Though a few that are listed (such as Goofy electrocuting himself) I could swear are still present... unless there complete specifics to one shot I'm missing...

I think most of the editing mentioned was done reasonably recently for television viewing.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
