Of course its okay for other people to like her, but I was just saying my personal opinion about her. Which is that she can't sing, she probably doesn't write her own songs, and her lyrics are trashy.

I used to despise Ke$ha... but in the past week or so, I've become way more interested in her for some reason.

I really like "Your Love is My Drug" and "Take it Off", as well as "Dinosour."

I will never not hate "Tik Tok", so I'm not even going to bother listening to it for a long time.

I also like her new single, We R Who We R,, and I plan on buying her deluxe version of her album, Cannibal when it's released in November.

I consider you one of the cooler people here and didn't want to piss you off.

TheSequelOfDisney wrote:Anyway, Ke$ha's songs may be fun and catchy, but when I hear a song I would kind of like to hear someone singing (that's why I don't like rap "songs").
I happen to like a lot of rap. There doesn't necessarily need to be any pretense about it. You just don't get beats like this in a lot of pop, no matter where you look.

TheSequelOfDisney wrote:A lot of recording artists today can't sing worth crap, and yet they're still making boat-loads of cash. Kind of the same deal with athletes? They get paid millions of dollars just so they can catch a football and run, hit a baseball with a bat or dunk a basketball into a net. To me, that makes absolutely no sense.
AAAH!! That was good! Excellent point.

All I can say to that is that- you can really move to music, so it doesn't seem like sports to me. And move independently- whereas with sports, there's a crowd conformist mentality to the experience of watching them and you have to sit on your butt for a good portion of it. Music is there for so many different reasons. People listening to it get more involved with it, in different ways.

TheSequelOfDisney wrote:And I don't really appreciate people who think they are singers, but really aren't. I guess that's probably why I like Broadway so much. They have to be able to sing otherwise they won't be in the show.
I'm highly ignorant when it comes to Broadway. My impression of it is of choreographed musical numbers with dancing, orchestral compositions, and a lot of physical drama. That's for folks who want a show, right? When I turn on my stereo, I might want to relax with something ambient and ethereal. But usually, I do it because I want to bang something out of me. Dance, club, rap, and electronica music can do this just as well for me as musicals can for some others.

Disney's Divinity wrote:Yes, I watch Glee and American Idol because, in today's music world where everything is repetitive, the one saving grace is people who have good voices. It's the reason I don't care for people like Katy Perry or Keisha (although I will say that Perry is a better singer--and that's really putting Keisha down).

Sorry. I know it's so very offensive that I don't want to listen to hacks and robotic noises try to stumble through a "song."
Oooh... Maybe you should change your name to Disney's Diva.

Seriously- I'm a pretty smart person with a nose for good in bad taste. It's not that I don't recognize Ke$ha's shortcomings... It's that I'm smart enough to place the ones that matter where they belong: on writing and production. Since these are dance and club songs, not Christina Aguilera ballads meant to bring a nation of tweens to tears.

Yeah, I admit my first instinct is to think that the people who like Glee are just a bunch of drama queens. I know better, but it's people who take it so dang seriously who make me love that my brain works like this.

pap64 wrote:I mean, I can see why people would be annoyed about it. Pop culture has the tendency of forcing acts, trends and thoughts down people's throats, and people that opposite it charge back with mock and ridicule. But should we really be THAT upset about it? I think not.

I remember the dumb pop artists that were around my era, with their repetitive lyrics and mind numbing beats. And guess what? We liked them! So clearly, this isn't anything new, and I do find it silly how people condemn the death of music today when "fake" music has been around forever...
Duckburger wrote:I can't see why people shouldn't enjoy songs from Kesha. They're fun. In a mindless drunk way. It's not like she's claiming to be the second coming of Jesus. And judging by the album sales, a lot of people don't seem to care that she's not the second coming of Jesus.

From what I can gather, every song on Glee is recorded with auto-tune. No 'raw' voices -'real' talent- to be found, so when they do it on their show - 'robotic voices' are okay? If I were to guess, the only reason artists agree to have their songs on Glee is because it boosts iTunes sales.
AMEN!

TheSequelOfDisney wrote:Ke$ha just can't sing. Period.
Who made up this rule that it matters? What is this- your way of trying to control a cultural anarchy you believe has developed?

Scarred4life wrote:her lyrics are trashy.
So are Prince's, Madonna's, Lady Gaga's, and so many other artists- I could go on for hours.

Point: I doubt that one is a fair criticism. She didn't make the rules, she just follows them.

PeterPanfan wrote:I really like "Your Love is My Drug"
I adore it. As pop songs go, it's a masterpiece. And one of my favorite songs of the new millennium. I wouldn't compare anything else she's done to that, though. It's on a whole other level.

PeterPanfan wrote:and I plan on buying her deluxe version of her album, Cannibal when it's released in November.
Wait- is this her 2nd album or an expansion of her first?

pap64 wrote:Anyone remember these guys?

No- but I'll never forget "Blame It on the Rain" and "Baby, Don't Forget My Number." Both because I'll be a rabid fan of 80's & 90's era Weird Al until the day I die (he parodied them in "The Plumbing Song"), and they're fun to dance to.

Ke$ha really isn't my type of music at all, although I think "Tik Tok" and "Take It Off" are awesome guilty pleasure songs I'll dance to when I'm out. I think her music is stupid and her frequent usuage of autotune obnoxious, but depending on my mood and the circumstance, her songs can be stupid and obnoxious in a fun way. That's more than I can say for Katy Perry, who just annoys me, but I'd put Lady Gaga on a higher level, if we're going to compare this generation's three shock divas(is that the right term for them?).

I won't listen to Ke$ha on my own, but I don't have a problem with people who do. How you listen to and interpret music is your own agenda. There's a lot of stuff I listen to that my friends and probably even most of you wouldn't get into at all, but I love it dearly. I'm big on fusion, post-punk, post-rock, many classic acts, and most types of metal, but none of that is for everyone. If you're into Ke$ha, that's great. If you're into Dylan, nice, me too. If you're into hip-hop, old school alternative, fusion, cool. Music is universal and how you interpret it is up to you.

I agree that Katy Perry seems to take herself a little too seriously (her criticism of Lady Gaga really downgraded her in my eyes, tbh), so I can understand why people might not like her there, combined with the fact that her songs are filler and her voice is nearly non-existent.

I don't completely hate people who can't sing well, as long as the songs are good (like Lady Gaga, who isn't that bad of a singer). I just don't like Kei$ha's voice or her songs, even just for the moment dancing. Perry's songs don't irk me the same way, for some reason (except for "California Gurlz"--ugh).

But there's nothing wrong with people liking her. I would have left my first post as my last one, but I just don't understand the need to call those who don't like her names.

I called you a Diva because you tried to out-snark me. But I insulted myself too- like anyone here would announce what they think of people who like something they hate when it makes them look bad. You got away clean (just like the princesses from Glee- I'm sorry but those controversial photos were about as racy as a dog calendar) and I look like a judgmental bully.

I haven't checked out "Sleazy" yet and I need to hear "Cannibal" again, but I'd have to say this new phase of her music is truly standard. Not that "Tik Tok" was that stand-out, but I always thought "Your Love is My Drug" was. Anyway, "Blow" is just okay. Not a knock out. Just another swing.

I've always had a funny relationship with Ke$ha, when she first appeared on the scene with Tik Tok I wasn't too fussed but then I really despised her second single Blah, Blah, Blah (despite being a fan of 3OH!3 as well!) and made the decision that I really didn't like her. Then slowly over time I warmed to her and by the release of Take it Off I had warmed enough to her to purchase Animal and give it a try. Turns out I really liked it and she's become an artist I listen too quite regularly. My favorite tracks on her album are Your Love is My Drug (only realized what an amazing song this was after repeated plays!), Take It Off, Stephen, Dinosaur and VIP.

I was quite miffed that her new Cannibal EP was only available through the bundled Deluxe Version of her album, having already bought it didn't want to re-buy it for the sake of nine new tracks! However it was the Album of the Week in the Amazon MP3 Store last week so they were selling it for £3.99 (that week only) and Amazon had given me a £2 Voucher to spend on MP3s and so I got it realistically for £1.99 so that softened the blow of technically re-buying 16 tracks I already owned. I'm in LOVE with the song Cannibal, I can't stop playing it! The beat and the lyrics are so infectious. Other songs I'm liking from the EP are, We R Who We R (though I personally wouldn't have picked it as the lead single), Blow and Crazy Beautiful Life :)
I love The Little Mermaid and Ariel

Oooh... I think they're terrible. Probably the worst act on the music scene today- forget what I said last month about The Jonas Brothers. 3OH are a plague on popular music. Take them and their mind-frying lyrics out of the songs and the music is great. But unfortunately, they don't sell instrumentals on purpose. That's all that should be allowed by them on the market, just the instrumentals. And I think that I'm one of the most lenient people on music. I almost never complain about vocalists, but these guys are bad. I love pop - but this is beyond bad. This is pain on the world at learge. Ke$ha and Katy Perry are the only even semi-talented people they allow on their tracks and... they only wind up doing little hooks / choruses. No verses. I was so completely WTF?! when I checked out "My First Kiss." These guys should only be allowed to produce music for other artists. Without them in it.

Forgive me everyone on UD, but here are links as proof these guys are the worst:

"Starstrukk" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvf--10EYXw
"My First Kiss" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYC2FUutdKA
"Touchin' on My" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iGQ2JydtRk

I was wrong, Perry has a verse. But we still have to hear their awful noises during her singing.
