Since we're already bastardizing the Beatles' original movie and Disney's reputations by making this film, I nominate John Travolta as George Harrison and Samuel L. Jackson as John Lennon. Instead of real "peace", Jackson's Lennon will quote scripture before killing the other Beatles.

But in an odd twist, [the actors] won't be needed for the musical numbers - that duty will fall to tribute band Fab 4, who will be playing along to actual Beatles tracks. Sounds like overkill, if you ask us.

So, wait:

The actors perform, both phsyically and vocally, in most scenes of the film.
The Beatles themselves (via original recordings) perform vocally and the tribute band performs physically for musical numbers. Right?
Or do the tribute band only appear in the Sgt. Pepper sequences in which they actually play instruments? Because it seems to me that any actors, not just Beatles impersonators, could act out scenes like "Hey Bulldog," where what they're doing isn't necessarily performing musically, per se.

Really, I think it's a good idea to have a tribute band (who have probably studied the mannerisms of the celebrities they're paying tribute to) play the Beatles for musical sequences. But, it's understandable if they won't play them throughout the whole film, since the Beatles didn't play themselves in the original, either, anyway.
Personally, I'm rather excited for this, I'll have to admit! After seeing "A Christmas Carol," I have every faith in ImageMovers Digital to make this film an absolute treat for the eyes, as well as a faithful re-make. Despite how good the music, characters, humor, and plot of the original film was, it was sort of hard to look at. Hopefully this new version will capture all of the great things about the original, while improving upon its less-than-perfect visuals.

So the movie is still happening and still in mo-cap too. With ImageMovers Digital reportedly closing after finishing production on Mars Needs Moms which animation studio will develop the mo-cap for this film? Unless ImageMovers Digital's closure will be suspended to finish The Yellow Submarine too. Anyone knows?

For real...they're happy about it? Maybe because they'll be getting some $...? I mean, it's not even George Harrison.

Ugh. I mean, one the one hand, and the only positive thing I can think about in terms of this movie, is that the Beatles' music will be introduced to some younger people for the first time through this film, so that's a good thing. But everything else about the film bothers me.

What a pointless undertaking, no doubt I'll still go see it though. I haven't seen Zemeckis' previous mo-cap films, they don't really appeal and just look freaky to me! I don't see Zemeckis' fascination with the process to be honest.

Even if Zemeckis finds a new sponsor and the film gets made after all, at least it won't bear the Disney name.

After the disastrous weekend that Mars Needs Moms had, I don't see a single studio getting behind this. Like how Cutthroat Island killed off pirate films for a while or how Howard the Duck's failure set George Lucas' career back, flops don't lead to similar projects being greenlit and I don't think a Zemeckis-produced motion-capture film will have executives opening their chequebooks.

So, who wants to bet the Roger Rabbit sequel will be his next project? If Zemeckis wants to get back on Disney's good graces, that's what he will likely have to do. With Spielberg's current deal with Disney, the screenwriters currently working on a script and hand-drawn animation being produced again, the gears are in motion for it.

Insiders at Disney are denying a Hollywood Reporter story that a lousy opening weekend for the Robert Zemeckis-produced animated film Mars Needs Moms sank Yellow Submarine, the 3D remake of the psychedelic animated Beatles film that Zemeckis had set up to direct at the studio in August 2009.

It is true that Disney won't go forward with the project, but insiders said that decision was made months ago. At that point, Zemeckis was given permission to shop the film elsewhere. This makes some sense, coming in the aftermath of Disney's announcement it would shutter ImageMovers Digital, the animation factory based in Marin County, CA. Disney announced a year ago it would shutter the 450-employee animation facility once work was completed on Mars Needs Moms. It's not immediately clear whether Zemeckis will try hard to dock Submarine elsewhere.

Disney closed ImageMovers Digital last March after Mr. Cook’s successor, Rich Ross, viewed footage of “Mars Needs Moms.” About two months ago, Disney quietly pulled the plug on what was to be Mr. Zemeckis’s next directing project there: : “Yellow Submarine,” a 3-D adaptation of the 1968 Beatles cartoon.

The company decided to proceed with “Mars Needs Moms” in part because it had already spent so much on it and in part because some executives, notably ones left from the Cook era, acted as cheerleaders for the project.
