How come no Halloween animated compilation DVD?

Post by Barbossa »

I was just wondering why Disney hasn't released a compilation DVD featuring Halloween-themed cartoons? Last time they did was on VHS.

Classic Cartoon Favorites had two Christmas DVDs, Animation Collection had one.

It could easily feature Sleepy Hollow as a featurette, with shorts such as Trick or Treat, Lonesome Ghosts, Skeleton Dance, etc. I'm sure there's enough interest out there for this. I'd buy, reyquila would buy, other members on this board would buy. 8)

I guess Mickey's House of Villains is about the closest thing we'll get to something like this.

A few years ago they also released "Once Upon A Halloween" on DVD
But those were just compilations of the villains from the classics...

That would be great. Perhaps an updated Disney's Halloween Treat/A Disney Halloween from the early 80s. Though less about clips of villains from the movies. I rather just see the more horror-esque shorts that Disney has made throughout the decade. The Donald Duck short "Trick or Treat" and the Mickey, Donald, Goofy short "Lonesome Ghosts" instantly come to mind.

Shorts that could be included:

The Skeleton Dance (1929)

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/h03QBNVwX8Q?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/h03QBNVwX8Q?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Haunted House (1929)

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/s8LiPoIpxnk?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/s8LiPoIpxnk?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

The Mad Doctor (1933)

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ywukfQqKX-g?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ywukfQqKX-g?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Some consider The Old Mill (1937) to be Halloween-ish, but it feels more like a segment from Fantasia.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MYEmL0d0lZE?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MYEmL0d0lZE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

More to come...

More shorts that could be included:

Lonesome Ghosts (1937)

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PVF5QK2uPMk?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PVF5QK2uPMk?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Donald’s Lucky Day (1939)
(Unfortunately, the bomb plot might not sit well with Disney execs these days)

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/m04XSNi6OV8?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/m04XSNi6OV8?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Maybe Donald Duck and the Gorilla (1944) could be included:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-GyiXa3ou2Y?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-GyiXa3ou2Y?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Definitely Trick or Treat (1952)

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/skdVouumMk4?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/skdVouumMk4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Maybe Fantasia’s Night on Bald Mountain segment:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/V8Ca_edg6RE?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/V8Ca_edg6RE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And of course, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KgYkE6YeV4M?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KgYkE6YeV4M?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6ZqeHUeGwts?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6ZqeHUeGwts?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/db4CXjceFoA?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/db4CXjceFoA?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

There's enough material for two DVDs. 8)

I'd also throw in Monster Mash from Disney's DTV Monster Hits:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zyPcz6wKEnE?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zyPcz6wKEnE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

By the way, at 1:15, you see Dracula, the Wolfman and Frankenstein's monster. Does anyone know which short this is from? I've been trying to identify this one for a long time. Here's a screen cap:

How about the whole special? :D The night it originally aired I'd set up the VCR timer since I was going to a Halloween dance at school! Image

I've wondered about that for quite some time too.

You know, it would be great if they did do an update of the Halloween Treat including some of the Halloweenish moments with the villains, and (as a special bonus) some scenes from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I was actually looking for a Halloween DVD. I was also mad when Disney did not make one. Political Correctness, anyone? Here is what I would put on it:
Babes in the Woods
Pluto's Judgement Day
The Cat's Out
Hells Bells
The Mad Doctor
Mickey's Nightmare
Goddess of Spring
Donald Duck and the Gorilla
Duck Pimples
Donald's Lucky Day
Lonesome Ghosts
Mickey's Parrot
and Trick or Treat
I would also sell Disney's Halloween Treat and A Disney Halloween together with DTV: Monster Hits as a Bonus Feature.

The image of the monsters sitting together is from the B&W short "Mickey's Gala Premiere" (1933).

Thanks! I've never seen that short before, and for those of you that haven't, here it is:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JptWh-4kndk?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JptWh-4kndk?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I would buy something that included DTV Monster Vision. I recorded that long ago but do not have a reliable vcr to watch it. In fact, just bought Monster Mash from iTunes on Monday because I remember that part from the special.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

I think they should release another WDCCF (Walt Disney Classic Cartoon Favorites) DVD featuring nothing but Halloween themed shorts and segments.

They could also do another Walt Disney Animation Collection DVD with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow as the main cartoon and feature a couple other Halloween themed shorts.

Weird clip from a TV special where Elvira is in the Haunted Mansion (can't tell if it's Disneyland or Disney World):

Funny how its a Disney special and her cleavage is covered up more. then it moves onto that horror awards show where Robert Englund is introducing her, and her boobs are almost popping out. :D 8)
