I just went to the store and bought my copy--can't wait to watch it on blu-ray!! I was confused by the different cases at first until I read the packaging. I don't see the point in having 2 different cases. I prefer the blu-ray case. Why put a blu-ray in a dvd case?! If i spend the extra money for a blu-ray I want a blu-ray case!
I find myself preferring the Blu-ray case but in the case of Snow White I preferred the DVD cover to the Blu-ray cover. I actually got Snow White in the DVD case but Beauty in the Beast in the Blu-ray case.

It was the opposite for me! On release day I went to Walmart to discover that they had no Blu-ray case copies, and a TON of DVD case copies. Better yet, the sales people didn't even know there were two different cases and told me to buy the DVD because "what's the difference?"
I found the spot where the Blu cases SHOULD have been, and it looks like they had started the day with maybe...12 copies? Really? I wanted to ask if they could check to see if there was Blu cases in the back, but since they didn't even know that it came in a Blu case in addition to the DVD, I just left and went to Toys R Us, where they had plenty of both.
I guess it depends on the store. I haven't checked my Wal-Mart, but I wouldn't be surprised if they only stocked the DVD case (their Blu-ray selection is still small compared to other Wal-Marts I've been too).
I stared at the new release section for a good minute or so til my eyes landed on Beauty and the Beast. I checked to see if it came with blu-ray and it did so I got it. Now I'm realizing I got the DVD packaging. Oh well. I think that's all they had! I got mine at Wal-Mart.

At my wal-mart they placed the DVD case addition up with the new releases and practically hid the blu-ray case amongst the regular blu-rays. It seems like they are trying to push the DVD case to deceive consumers that it's the regular DVD release, which seems shady.

Yeah, I'm actually using footnotes on a forum post. It's the only way to make sense of this jumbled ramble...
If they're going to label it as a "DVD + Blu-ray" and put it in the DVD section of stores, it'd only be right to include the second disc of the DVD rather than the Blu-ray. ¹ Of course, that wouldn't work either because the DVDs are now so diluted and lame. ²
But that raises the question: what is more important to people with just DVD players and no immediate intention of upgrading: a modest disc of extras they can play or a loaded extras disc they can't? ³
¹ That they're able to do otherwise and not score tons of complaints from DVD people just goes to show that those of us clamoring for bonus features and multi-disc sets are really in the minority of Disney's customer base.
² And it would also undermine the very important 7-week delay of the 2-Disc DVD.
³ The correct answer for most people is neither. They just want to put a movie on for the kids. Even better if they don't have to press "Menu" and select "Play".

I prefer the Blu-Ray case myself, because I keep my Blu-Rays separate to my DVD collection so it helps to keep everything uniform. I do however like the look of the DVD case and believe they should use that for the 2-Disc DVD obviously I understand why they don't. Like other people have mentioned, personally I think Disney have been pretty deceptive releasing the DVD cases and holding off the 2-Disc DVD edition so the general public could be lead into purchasing the movie on Blu-Ray. Granted they should read the packaging before purchasing, however they are found in the DVD section so you wouldn't think any different, it is quite a clever business ploy. I noticed The Sound of Music Blu-Ray has the option of coming in DVD packaging, so are other studios planning to follow such strategies? For those that prefer the DVD I'm curious, do you keep them in your DVD collection? How long do you think Disney will keep up the DVD case, for the full Diamond Collection?
I think the DVD cases generally look better, but I always prefer the Blu-ray cases because then you actually know it's a Blu-ray. Plus the insides look cooler.
