Share your Halloween photos

Post by tightlacedboots »

I hope this type of thread hasn't already been done this year. My family gets really into Halloween. I'm a bit of a goth, actually. My husband is even more over the top than me when it comes to this holiday... and our birthdays both fall in October.

I would like to encourage people to post pictures of their jack-o-lanterns or other decorations, etc. Compared to last year, we aren't going to be able to do a lot since we don't have a proper front yard in our new place. The headstones from last year aren't going to waste... my mother-in-law is going to set up a graveyard at her place

Oh, and one of the biggest influences in some of our stuff is The Nightmare Before Christmas. These were given to me as birthday gifts the past two years. Here's my fav.

We have yet to hang them up in our new home. A year or so ago we found Halloween ornaments which my husband insisted on buying even though I didn't know what to do with them. Lo and behold, Wal-Mart came out with a little Halloween tree. Worked out great.

I haven't decided what to do for my pumpkin this year, but I will share some old photos as well as a video I made of my favorite (actually, only) snow globe. You can click on it to see the bats fly in the globe and hear the music.

These images are making this post huge so I'll just put links if you want to see some of my favorite jack-o-lanterns from years past.

How about you? Any ideas for Halloween? Costumes, decorations, etc?? Last year I was Dorothy and my son was the Cowardly Lion but he got sick so we didn't even go anywhere. Let me tell you, it was a pain to find those ruby slippers! lol

Those are some awesome jack-o-lanterns! Also, I love that Jack Skellington poster.

I don't have any new photos yet, but I do have my Halloween editions of my comic strip:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vN97MlC5VYk?fs ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vN97MlC5VYk?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And I'll probably go as my Monty Moonlight character this year since I don't have cash to make a new costume at the moment (trying to find a job). You can see me wearing the costume in some of my other YouTube videos though. I wear it for my movie review show and vlog.

Wow, those are cool pumpkins. I really like the Jack one of course! :) What kind of paint did you use? A girl I know said she used some acrylic paint but wasn't sure if rain would wash it off. Did you keep those outside? I'm not going to decorate until it gets closer to the holiday, at least if carving is involved, so the pumpkin doesn't get all gross.

Hey, neat videos.

Silly Symphony, those are amazing! I could never do that. Eyes and mouths are the extent of my pumpkin carving skills. :P

Thanks! I'm glad you like 'em.

For both Mike and Jake I just used a cheap acrylic paint. I can't remember if I used a sealant on them, but I didn't leave those guys outside. If your pumpkin is going to be exposed to the elements I highly recommend coating it with some sort of paint primer/sealer. In past years I've left my pumpkins on the porch so they're protected from the elements and would-be pumpkin smashers. Though I've never been able to save 'em from the moose...

The Maleficent pumpkin was the only one kept outside. Although she wasn't painted, I still covered it with petroleum jelly to preserve it from rot. The decaying process can also be slowed if the pumpkin is out in the cold with 5-10 degrees as the best temp. Comes to show that Alaskan pumpkins last the longest.

Great pumpkins, Silly Symphony! That's some really amazing work!

We haven't put up our Halloween stuff yet, but here are pictures from our displays last year. We most likely will be doing the same, and perhaps something new.

And my costume as well from last year. Not sure what I'll be this year though :p

Not really Halloween, but when my school had an RHPS screening, I dressed up as Brad. Unsurprisingly, I had everything for the costume except the sweater vest. I've been wanting one in that shade anyway, so I bought it that afternoon.

Image

My jacket is more like the one Finn wore in "Rocky Horror Glee Show" rather than the tan one that Brad wears in the movie.

nice pics, guys.

Some of the counties around here are doing trick-or-treating tonight and some did it last night. We went last night.

These are the pumpkins I did this year.

Image
It's hard to touch up white on top of black so it's not perfect but I think it came out pretty well.

Image

Image

I threw together a simple witch costume to accompany my son trick-or-treating. He's either a dinosaur or riding a dinosaur, depending on how you look at the costume. The dino can pass as a dragon so with his props he looks like Hiccup riding his dragon from How to Train a Dragon.

So, for the first time in YEARS, I had an AWESOME Halloween night! My sister threw a small party, but we had the right amount of people so it was amazing!

I didn't know that there would be people in costume so I improvised with my costume, and I do mean improvised as everyone came from my closet and the rest was created by last minute ingenuity.

I present to you... THE NERD!!!!!!

Image

Image

My niece, however, had the best costume of us all. She was... THE CORPSE BRIDE!

Image

Image

Of course, I had a ton of Halloween related fun, like...

Image

I SEE YOUUUUUUUUU!

Image

Oooooh monies!

Great pumpkins tightlacedboots!
I almost didn't light my pumpkins tonight, they were frozen shut! I had to pry 'em open with a butter knife to light the candle.

Here's the Jack-o-Lanterns I carved, my interpretation of Jack Skellington and Ghostface. And I didn't even use a stencil - I'm proud of myself. 8)

Image

We didn't get much kids come by tonight, only 12. Must be because this van was parked in the neighborhood...

Image

...nah, just kidding. Although I really don't know why more kids showed up. Maybe because it was a Sunday night?

Well, I gradually put on some weight a while back. Kinda was depressed and stuff. And though I have started dropping it slowly, I decided to take advantage of it and be Ed from Shaun of the Dead this year, especially since it was a costume I could do cheaply, and I'm really jobless and broke at the moment. Here are some photos taken last night at the Zombie Prom at Austin's High Ball, where we went right after the Walking Dead premiere at the Alamo Drafthouse Theater next door.

First, here I am with the best Shaun we saw that night. There were several Shauns, but I didn't see any other Eds.

Image

Next, here I am with Weird Al. Great costume. I'm a big Weird Al fan, ha.

Image

And here I am with (ooh, aah) a TRON machine!

Image

Here are a couple of pics with my little sis, whom I am currently living with and who fronts a Blues Band in Austin. She was an 80's zombie, and later told me she was kinda going for Brenda from Return of the Living Dead 2.

Image

Image

I wish I had a pic of this gorgeous girl I asked to dance, who was dressed as an Anime-style schoolgirl with sword. That was a big deal for me, because I've never danced, which I did horribly, ha.

And here's a vid of me as my character, Monty, in the Ed costume introducing my October comic strip.
