For some good news, sotiris2006 posted an interview with Don Hahn in this post in which he confirms "Destino", "Lorenzo", "The Little Match Girl", and "One By One" WILL be on the Blu-Ray:
- There is a number of shorts we produced a few years ago for a new Fantasia, actually. We wanted to put together a Fantasia based on world music. And we made some wonderful pieces, one based on Hans Christian Andersen's story "The Little Matchgirl", one based on Argentinian tango music called "Lorenzo." Luckily those were all made for Fantasia and they're coming out on the Fantasia Blu-Ray Disc later this year. So as we approach the holidays, I think if you keep your eyes and ears open, you'll see a great re-release of the original Fantasia along with Fantasia 2000 along with three or four amazing shorts that were made for Fantasia but have never been seen before, and that includes Destino, a great collaboration between Salvador Dali and Walt Disney.

That is quite shocking. We have 50GB discs and Disney include less images? I mean, images are surely the rudimentary kind of extra content you can have a with Film product, and they can't improve on this area?Escapay wrote:For comparison's sake: (2000 DVD / 2010 Blu-Ray)

It's a farce that one of the most important films of all time has this lame 'content'. Thank-god the actual film has been restored...

And Snow White.
I think the reason is that they can't just directly transfer the DVD stills over the BD without the results being disastrous (see James and the Giant Peach). They have to go back and rescan those images in HD for the Blu-ray, and they probably are too lazy to go back and track down all of those for rescanning.
The Pixar BDs seem to carry over most if not all of the DVD galleries, but you'll notice that they make a big deal about the images being rescanned in HD both on the packaging and in the intros.
And anyway, great to hear that we're getting the scrapped Fantasia 2006 shorts on the upcoming two-pack BD. My first thought was that the interview was outdated, but then I saw on the Beauty and the Beast thread that the interview was done just this week.

Doesn't surprise me, the art galleries were really the only supplements on the Beauty and the Beast Diamond Edition to take a hit over the Platinum Edition (yes, I'm still upset that they didn't include any Publicity Galleries, something even the shunned DACs get).Escapay wrote:For comparison's sake: (2000 DVD / 2010 Blu-Ray)

Does anyone know exactly when the interview was taken? During the original publicity interviews for Waking Sleeping Beauty's theatrical release, Don Hann was saying the same thing about these shorts appearing on the Fantasia Blu-ray. He also calls 'Tangled' - Rapunzel, which could indicate this is an old interview. Of course, he could've called it that out of habit (with that being the original name for so long) or simple because that is still the name in France. While it would be nice to believe my signature isn't completely wrong, I really won't believe anything about this release until I rent it and see it myself.Escapay wrote:For some good news, sotiris2006 posted an interview with Don Hahn in this post in which he confirms "Destino", "Lorenzo", "The Little Match Girl", and "One By One" WILL be on the Blu-Ray:
Also, I still want Deems Taylor's voice.

You'd think they would have mentioned it in the press release. I'm hoping though. I've been wanting to see all of those shorts in HD.jpanimation wrote:Doesn't surprise me, the art galleries were really the only supplements on the Beauty and the Beast Diamond Edition to take a hit over the Platinum Edition (yes, I'm still upset that they didn't include any Publicity Galleries, something even the shunned DACs get).Escapay wrote:For comparison's sake: (2000 DVD / 2010 Blu-Ray)

That YouTube video was only uploaded one or two days ago by Walt Disney Studios France. Don Hahn did the interview cos Waking Sleeping Beauty opens in French theaters this week. If you notice, the Beauty and the Beast Diamond Edition poster/cover art is in the background, so it couldn't possibly have been shot last year.jpanimation wrote:Does anyone know exactly when the interview was taken?
