This isn't anything new. China already censors the internet. But I think this bill could end up hurting the internet more than help it.

HA-HA they wish.

And considering the news source you got that from, it's obvious that FOX news only address this since they are butthurt and can't control the net. Fear mongering again.

@ Super Aurora: while Fox 'News' is a fishy source, there's been a lot of talk on Capitol Hill lately about 'net neutrality'. If the government/Congress should decide to do anything against net neutrality, it's just one more step in a whole string of decisions to give corporations and businesses more rights and priviliges than citizens --the latest being the Supreme Court ruling that there should be no maximum amount corporations can spend to buy --er, I'm sorry, 'lobby'-- politicians. They equally a business to a person in their deluded reasoning, and said that throwing around money is the same as 'free speech'...

I smell an opportunity to pimp George Carlin once again. I think you'll like this one:

I'm genuinely worried about this... :( It looks like we may have to say good-bye to the Internet as we know it. I can't believe it.

I do not think they will censor UD though. Unless you count those screencaps we post to be illegal somehow?

I won't worry just yet. First off, let's keep in mind that Fox News is great for taking a story with maybe a pinch of worry and turning it into a football field size bit of worry. They like to scare people, guess it keeps their ratings up.

Second off, this is NOT about government so much a corporate America, specifically, Hollywood. I know we all like to blame the government for everything, but they guys behind and pushing for this is the folks in Hollywood, who are doing everything they can to "crack down of copyright law breakers." But, like most such laws, I don't think anything crazy will happen just yet.

Maybe it is time we change copyright laws to serve the people, and not the big corporations. Because my friends, that is what this is about in a nut shell. Funny thing is the same folks at Fox News warning us about how bad this is work for a man who most likely is a backer of this fight against online pirates and copyright law infringement. Oh what a tangled web we weave.

As much as they want that happen, especially what Milo pointed out, people on net will find ways around it once again like they did before.

It's obvious corporations/hollywood hate the internet since much of it they can not control and if they do find a way to, people find a way to undo it or around it.

I wouldn't fear much into it as Milo pointed out.

This whole thing about trying to censor the Internet is just stupid and it will not solve anything. It also goes against the freedom of speech.

I'm worried about what impacts this will have: no more forums, no more eBay, no more Amazon, no more anything.

Here is all I have to say:

BLAME IT ALL ON AL GORE, SINCE HE IS THE ONE WHO CLAIMS TO HAVE INVENTED THE INTERNET!!!!

I don't think we have anything to worry about. Just look at the source.

Fox News is well known for its fearmongering. Now, I'm not saying there isn't a hint of truth in what they're saying, there might be some form of censorship in the works, but yeah... They took it a little too far. Removing the internet completely like many fear is not possible due to many things relying on the internet (especially thousands of jobs). Simply impossible. In China they already have censorship on the internet, so it's not completely out of the question. Then again, comparing the US and China might not be the best idea just yet. Though the internet is the only unfiltered source for news, which could also be a waging factor. Well if anything, this is Fox... meaning, it could go either way.

All news networks fearmonger a little bit, but only FOX does it to this degree.

Actually, I was just saying to my dad this morning, after hearing about a bill to limit the volume of TV commercials. I say "Good thing the sound system downstairs has a Dynamic volume feature that keeps the volume consistent and prevents ads from blaring". Thing is, the government is considering it now, even though Electronics manufacturers have been doing it for a while.

The government takes so long to act, they wait until everyone else is doing it.

In other words, years will roll by before we see anything resembling internet censorship.

I know you're kidding, but I just can't let it go (when can I ever?). He did no such thing. He has said his efforts contributed to the creation of what would become the basis of the internet. He shouldn't have backed away from that when the media started mocking him for it.

The county is going downhill. I don't know who to vote for cause they all badmouth each other.

I probably won't get to see a moon or mars landing in my lifetime because they can't decide how and when to do it.

The goverment is failing and I fear a revolution. Schools failing bad health care system makes me want to leave the country for good.

To be honest, I don't think there'll ever be a "revolution" (at least in the civil war sense that I think of it) in the US again.

The only thing that makes me want to leave the country are conservatives.
