I "liked" it! I hope I'll be able to see it in theaters, but right now, I don't think I'll be able to do so (I actually haven't seen a DAC in theaters since Lilo & Stitch, which is sad, I know).

Re: Thanks, etc.
I don't think it will die, but it will be very rare, like stop motion, at least when it comes to feature films, for tv and dtv it's pretty much where it's still going strong.Jackoleen wrote:Do any of you think that the death of traditional animation is upon us? I certainly hope that traditional animation will not die, and that it'll be even better during the future than it was in "The Princess and the Frog".
Thank you in advance for your replies.

What 2D really needs it's great movie, not just something good, something great, something that people can find engaging and entertaining, a big spectacle if you will.

CELEBRATE !!! HERE IT IS AT LAST !!! Incredible new for fans of incredible Menken, first look to the whole piece of work of the man with the tracklist i've been dreaming for so long, from amazon ! I guess it's just new from today, i'm surprised nobody discovered it before
You'll see that
- We got many reprises ! (3 reprises for the wish song, woww !!), including the yet famous INCANTATION that runs all through the movie from the prologue i guess to the finale death flynn scene (The Tear Heals)... bet it's gonna be tearful !
- We got as many score tracks as we could wish (remember, recent disney soundtracks was composed of too few nonsense montages...) except (if i believe the tracks titles), we don't have many music from the inside tower scenes i feel, not even Gothel and Girl chats or Girl and Boy first meeting... what a pity
- The blasted tavern song is simply called "I've got a dream"
- The not very precise titled prologue promises to be quite long and rich and interesting with even Rapunzel as a child singing !!???
- Do u think it's a fake ??

YESSSS!!! THANK YOU for the heads up!
Exciting...
But a little disappointing.
This means there are only 4 full-length songs:
-When Will My Life Begin?
-Mother Knows Best
-I've Got a Dream
-I See the Light
All of the rest seem to be either reprises or preprises (don't know the technical term for a song that alludes to a following song...)
In comparison, Beauty and the Beast had 6 full-length songs (with a 7th being added later) and 3 reprises. The Little Mermaid had 6 full-length songs and 4 shorter songs.
Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to this release SO much...

Well there's one called 'Tear Heals' score AND song, performed by Mandy Moore....maybe that's 5?
Pretty sure that's going to be another short reprise... Similar to how "Kidnap and Reunion" on the Anastasia soundtrack features a reprise of "Once Upon a December" or how "Ray Laid Low" on the Princess and the Frog features a reprise of "Almost There".phan258 wrote:Gandalf wrote:Exciting...

Gandalf you missed "Incantation" which would at least be considered a shorter song. So 5 songs?

Yes, I forgot about 'You Are My Forever,' what about that? Also I know there's an article regarding Menken somewhere that said the end credits song was either going to contain lyrics by him OR that he wasn't involved with it at all & that was a sore point (seems that's what it is now?)

You are my forever was cancelled a long time ago and recently replaced by the "healing incantation" that plays the same fonction, beautiful melancholic tune adressed either to the flower or to the hair to activate the magic, and sung from G to R or from R to F... That is the fifth song, tiny but powerful, heard and included in prologue , in middle of movie, and in the tear heals track... Very new and brilliant Menken's formula to me !!!!!!
I actually kinda like the fact that they are mostly reprises myself and that there is a little bit of singing in the prologue track.
To be fair, there are a good number of musicals that have reprisals.
Look at Sweeney Todd for example: Almost every song in that is a reprisal of another one ie. the opening of "By the Sea" has the same tune as "Worst Pies in London", opening to Pretty Women = "Ladies in Their Sensitivities", "My friends" is used a lot, and "No Place like London" is sort of used in "Epiphany"
OK, i'm getting a little OT, but I'm trying to stress a point.
Great looking track list! Just hope the actual music lives up to the hype.

I'm quite interrested in number 20, probably the end credit song, sung by Grace Potter. I found this which is probably not the right. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6TqbsrL ... ata_player
Don't forget that the second act of Sound of Music is nothing but reprises of previous songs sung in different context.Tristy wrote:I actually kinda like the fact that they are mostly reprises myself and that there is a little bit of singing in the prologue track.

From the above list I understand there will be 5 original songs written by Alan Menken and Glen Slatter:
When Will My Life Begin? (the 'I Want' song)
Mother Knows Best (the 'Villain' song)
I've Got a Dream (the 'Fun' song)
I See the Light (the 'Love' song)
Healing Incantation (the 'Magic' song)
and 5 reprises:
When Will My Life Begin? (Reprise 1)
When Will My Life Begin? (Reprise 2)
Mother Knows Best (Reprise)
Prologue Song (Reprise 1 of the Healing Incantation)
The Tear Heals Song (Reprise 2 of the Healing Incantation)
and an end credits song written and performed by Grace Potter:
Something That I Want
It has already been confirmed by Menken that the "Healing Incantation" song runs throughout the movie so I suppose it is safe too assume that the "Prologue Song" performed by Gothel and Young Rapunzel and the "Tear Heals" Song in the end are reprises of the "Healing Incantation" as it forms a cycle: beginning (prologue)-middle (where Rapunzel heals Fynn's hand)-end (where Rapunzel's tear heals/revives dying Flynn).
I think that the previously included song "You're My Forever" got either re-worked or substituted by the "Healing Incantation" song as they perform a similar role. In the "You're My Forever", the song aquires one meaning when Gothel sings it to Rapunzel and another one when Rapunzel sings it to Flynn probably also related to Rapunzel's magical abilities and how they are used: (the one how Gothel pretends to love Rapunzel so she can use her power to remain young, and the other showing Rapunzel's authentic love for Flynn and her using her powers to save his life).
Menken also said that "Healing Incantation" was the last song to be written which indicates a need produced by story changes.
