Treasures are in hand

Post by Eeyore »

Went out to Walmart bright and early at 8:00am opening (and I don't do mornings), and couldn't find *any*. Asked the stock boy, and he said they were probably in his stack of boxes he had. He nicely set to opening them up, to find them for me.

As expected, there were a ton of Front Lines, a couple of boxes, maybe 50 in total. There was another box of Donald, and one of Mickey, probably 25 to 30 of each I'd guess. There was no box of Tomorrowland. He then started going through each disc individually, and managed to find one in a box that was primarily Front Lines.

Price was $25.83 CDN, which works out to about $18 US each. Neener, neener, I love BC. We have the best DVD prices anywhere. :D

Earlier, I posted I thought these discs would disappear in this order: Front Lines, Mickey, Donald, Tomorrowland, with Tomorrowland being the easiest to get down the road.

I've changed my mind. I could barely find Tomorrowland today. Lots of folks have had their online order of it cancelled. I now think it's going to be the hardest disc to find in the future. Forget the future, it's tough to find *now*. Next Mickey will be the second toughest, then Donald, then finally Front Lines will still be on the shelves months and months from now.

Now, to open these puppies...

Just went out to the 10:00 a.m. opening at Costco to get the treasures. Each one was $21.99. They had them all, but Tomorrowland was in limited supply. Didn't see any hoarders picking these up for future resell on ebay though :P

I had luck finding Tomorrowland in the mall this morning. I first located it in the Suncoast. They had 4 copies of each of the 4 treasures. Each was $32.99. Steep but would have paid it if i couldn't find Tomorrowland cheaper anywhere else. Went across the hall to the disney store, and ironically enough only received 3 of the 4 treasures. They didn't receive the Donald Duck one, which if i am not mistaken had about the most produced or was up there at least. They had it for $24.99. Done deal. They seemed to have about 8-10 on display of each, but not sure if that was it or not.

Well i am done. And no ebayers were present at least when i was there at like 10:02 when the mall opened. Maybe they are all sleeping in.

Got mine too, Im so excited!

:D

I dont think I've ever anticipated a DVD release as much as this wave of sets! I actually woke up at like 7am this morning to shower and drive downtown to secure my copies!

Btw, for anyone looking for the older sets and past waves... DVDPassion seems to be offering all of them in their original limited tins (I believe) for an extremely incredible price... http://dvdpassion.com/search.asp?name=w ... +treasures

That should be in Canadian dollars btw!!

$32.99? US? Ouch.

Some more first impressions: Someone had said the tins were inferior to the last batch, more flimsy etc. Doesn't feel that way to me, feels exactly the same. Ok, did a test by holding an old one and a new one. There's a *slight* difference, the new one is just a hair lighter. Never would have noticed it if it hadn't been pointed out.

When you take the band off, the front of the tins now looks very strange and empty without the embossing. They're out of balance now. Still plan on investigating a way of doing that myself.

Walmart has put the damn electronic sticky tag thing on the back of the band. Grrr. I hate those things, and always remove them from inside cases, etc. This makes the bands a little looser fitting, they don't look as good because they're not snug to the case.

My Tomorrowland is 6,753 of 105,000, and my Front Lines 21,727 of 250,000. Looks like Canada may have gotten the low numbers this time. For the other waves, our tins were always high, 122,000 of 125,000 and so on.

i too got up bright and early to get my dvds. i couldn't wait until 10:00 for best buy to open, and didn't think about wal-mart and was waiting outside of borders at 9:00 for them to open. they had all four tins for 29.99 each. i was going to have them hold on to them until after best buy opened but i just didn't want to wait. what kind of bussiness waits until 10:00 to open during the week anyway? i'm going to pop in on the front lines first.

also, after seeing that this batch of tins is not embossed with the authenticity number on the actual tin, and the guy says there was 50 of said tin at his wal-mart, if there ar 50 of said tin at every wal-mart in the united states, thats too many tins i think. not counting all the on-line orders. i'm suspicious and maybe someone could start a thread that is a pool of all of our serial numbers and see if there's any duplicates. eh, maybe i'm trippin :?

on the front lines-150,906/250,000

that's funny you mention that wizzer. i was thinking the same thing...that there may be dupes of each serial number.

I just got mine. Got Mickey in color at Target & the rest at the Disney store. Tomorrowland is definitely the hardest to find. Paid $25 each. Why Did Disney put the sensor on the obi? I damaged my Front lines's obi trying to remove the sensor. :x

My # are
Mickey Mouse color 122,801/17,000
Donald Duck 029,668/165,000
On the Front Lines 184,694/250,000
Tomorrowland 082,502/105,000

Can't vouch for them, but when I added it to my cart, it said "Not Available".

As far as current available stock, I'm not sure.

But yes, the store and site itself is reliable.

DVD Passion is a Montreal based DVD retailer located in the Eaton's Centre downtown. I was just in the store this morning in fact. They have a well-run business and have been around for quite a few years so no need for concern, I would trust them over half the online e-tailers linked through this site and so many others.

I would suggest you verify that the items are actually available first though as it would seem strange that they'd be selling a Mickey Mouse In Black & White for $31 Canadian given that this title has supposedly been OOP for the past 3 years.

Than again, it also says on their website that they have 6 Limited Edition Collector Box Sets of The Excorcist on hand which I've been searching for so long, so it's possible!

You guys don't quite have the best DVD prices anywhere! ;) You're forgetting about your neighbours to the east in ALBERTA where there is NO PROVINCIAL SALES TAX, making Alberta the best place in the country to buy DVDs :) I paid $25.83 for my DVDs at Wal-Mart too, but only 7% tax...you probably paid 13 or 14% total tax, right?

I only found 6 copies of Tomorrowland at the Wal-Mart here. Well theres only 5 now since I bought one of those...unless I go back to buy the rest of them...hmmm... :P

I checked out other places today, and it seems that the Disney Store is loaded with Tomorrowland DVDs. Whereas most other places that I checked had 6 at most, the Disney Store had 12 copies and this was after the CM told me that they had already sold 6 copies of it already? hmmmm... If what she said was true, then they started out with 18 copies.

Everytime I went to DVDPassion in Montreal, they have several Behind the Scenes if you ever need that. I got a few tins from them last year.
