Billy, the Blue Power Ranger, Comes out of the Closet!
Billy, the Blue Power Ranger, Comes out of the Closet!
Just read this now. Considering that I am a big fan of the original series I am surprised by this. Worse is that he was apparently harassed on the set regarding his sexuality, forcing him to quite.
Here's the story:

You know, for years I have read that David Yost was actually very difficult to work with, but was still a favorite among fans.
Regardless of what actually happened, I wish him well in his endeavors.

I was a bit shocked, but not really. Other than the second red ranger Adam, he was the most effeminate one of the bunch. I can't imagine that any of the people that teased him or made fun of him were the rangers themselves. It was probably some of the behind the scenes crew. Billy always was my favourite after Jason and Kimberly.
Think about this. Once bread becomes toast, you can't make it back into bread.

Khonner loved the first Adam, but I had a huge crush on Jason. And Billy. Especially in the episode where he switched personalities with Kim... because it was the first time he wore butt-hugging jeans and not those lame overalls... which actually was a good look for a dork, but this guy had a real body.
It's a little too late for this to be news and unless you're hopelessly stuck on the original show, this isn't going to make for any new fantasies. The old casts as a group pretty much have no visibility anymore, which is kind of sad. Amy Jo Johnson showed up on Lifetime for awhile but quickly dropped off the map again.
Has E! done a True Hollywood Story about this show? Pity they never did. It would have been interesting, around the time of their episodes for Mtv's The Real World and Beverly Hills 90210.
The really sad thing about this is when you consider his age when he was on the show. 23 during the first season. He said in an interview he didn't really know he was gay, that he struggled with it after leaving the show sometime in 1996. What was going on in his life that could possibly make him so blind for so long?

I didn't mean she stopped acting entirely.

For those wondering why I posted this, here's why...
1. I love the Power Rangers, and the history behind it fascinates me. For the most part, the creation of the series as well as what the people behind its creation thought of it remain a mystery. Most actors either say they loved it or hated it, and remain vague regarding their true feelings. I know that Amy Jo Johnson hated the series.
2. As I mentioned before, there were rumors that David Yost was hard to work with. This reveals part of the reason why. I mean, would you be happy if you were in a working environment that didn't respect your life? Gay or not, he was still an actor and didn't need crap.
3. Considering that this is a community that supports the gay community I thought this would be a good discussion about gay actors and actresses in the media.
Hope this helps!
