Here was the first thread:

I figured throw this in there since I used it for the title...

Here are 5 of my favorite current TV commercials. Ironically, they are all for car insurance companies, and no, I don't work for either!
I don't think it can get much cuter than this first one!

CGI animals are not cute when you can tell it's CGI. That pig is disgusting! And ugly. The smile is gross, it looks like (talking about physical texture, and this is the kind of thing CGI is good for-) they cut the smile into the face of some cardboard and asbestos cone. And then they give it a human personality. Aren't people repulsive enough without having to make animals just like them? You could say the endless onslaught of Puppets-with-Personality movies and shows in the 80's were creepy. And you'd probably be right. But damn it, they were cute sometimes. It was something of a novelty back then. Now it's just plain stupid. And now we have CGI too, so nobody even needs their hands anymore- the computer will do everything for you. This is just as lame as if they had shown a computer sticking its' head out of the window with pinwheels on either side. And at least then, the people with the gall to show that would be smart enough to be making a statement. BRING BACK PUPPETS! At least they were attractive. I'd suggest someone shoot this Wilbur (his voice is beyond annoying)... but that would look fake too.
Goodness, I just thought I'd share something that I thought was cute and made me laugh. I thought the pinwheels really added to the cute factor. I thought I was helping to get the thread back on track, with something cute and lighthearted. I didn't realize it would be taken so seriously or lead to a "rant". Sorry if it bothered you. To paraphrase from Walt Disney's Pollyanna, "If you look for the bad in things, you'll be sure to find it".
To be honest, I hadn't even thought about whether it was CGI or a puppet or an animatronic or a real pig. I'm by nature a very non-technical person and don't really think about "how things work", as I find that takes the "magic" and innocence away. I just took it at face value and found the concept humorous and cute! As well as the pig, pinwheels, and "whee" voice!
Ironically, I was thinking of posting the 10 You Tube clips I just watched of the complete Song Of The South, which I found very beautiful and moving. I didn't do it though, thinking that it might cause controversy or a big debate about the movie!

Never mind that none of these feature her actual voice (she was always dubbed when she sang). She pulls off lip-synching much better than anyone else, and she still has a damn good time dancing.

Don't take it personally- I'm grouchy by nature. Besides, rants can occur in any thread on the board. Everyone does 'em. To quote... some rapper; "a bullet has no name on it."David S. wrote:Goodness, I just thought I'd share something that I thought was cute and made me laugh. And that's the problem with today's youth (you are young, aren't you?), they wouldn't notice a huge tank until they were flattened by it.David S. wrote:To be honest, I hadn't even thought about whether it was CGI or a puppet or an animatronic or a real pig.
Seriously, though- I hate that people don't notice anymore. Or they don't remember the past, that we've already had plenty of this sort of thing before. CGI was better done in the 90's. I didn't have to look for it, it's right there. We had Babe and that was cute. We had that Toys'R'Us commercial with the singing bunnies. And Aflac. And that's enough- we don't need more.
Okay, this has officially just been talked-to-death. It's a terrible commercial and you think the concept is cute. Nothing wrong with that, everyone has their guilty pleasures. We understand each other perfectly. I say this ends here and everyone's happy.David S. wrote:I'm by nature a very non-technical person and don't really think about "how things work", as I find that takes the "magic" and innocence away. I would merely recommend you don't do that because it clutters up the page. 10 links to the pages on YouTube would do just fine.David S. wrote:Ironically, I was thinking of posting the 10 You Tube clips I just watched of the complete Song Of The South, which I found very beautiful and moving. I would notice the tank. Since you asked, I consider myself "young", but I'm in the second half of my 30's! But I am deeply in touch with my inner child, and sense of wonder and innocence. Those are the eyes through which I strive to view the world! Surrounding myself with Disney culture, G-rated movies, stuffed animals, other cute things, and so-forth has really paid off! So I'm glad you took me as younger than you! In my eyes, that's actually a HUGE compliment! Because these people here LOVED the commercial, and with all due respect, I'd rather be on their side of the fence than the one which is too sophisticated to be able to enjoy it:Lazario wrote:And that's the problem with today's youth (you are young, aren't you?), they wouldn't notice a huge tank until they were flattened by it.David S. wrote:To be honest, I hadn't even thought about whether it was CGI or a puppet or an animatronic or a real pig.

(hopefully these additional clips help keep my post "on topic", especially since I was initially thinking of posting them anyway!
In my opinion, there can NEVER be too much cuteness! And most of the old cute commercials have been retired, so I am glad new ones are being made to fill that niche! I'm glad you liked Babe though, as it's one of my favorite live-action movies of all-time, my favorite movie ever released by Universal, and helped inspire me to finally stop eating meat, once and for all! If they had a Babe attraction at the Universal parks, I'd have an annual pass there, in addition to Walt Disney World and Busch Gardens/Sea World!Seriously, though- I hate that people don't notice anymore. Or they don't remember the past, that we've already had plenty of this sort of thing before. CGI was better done in the 90's. I didn't have to look for it, it's right there. Kinda ironic that you would say that, as I was initially done "talking" about it after posting the video, and you felt it merited a discussion beyond just the embedded link! I could just as easily say "it's a cute commercial and you find it terrible". I'm not sure if you do "understand me perfectly" if you would consider liking it a "guilty pleasure". Because I find it a pleasure, but feel absolutely no "guilt" whatsoever for liking it!Lazario wrote:Okay, this has officially just been talked-to-death. But hey, I meant none of this as an "argument" with you, just a continuation of the discussion you began about the clip I posted.

Yes, I know it's based on an old sketch from Abbott and Costello, thank you. Oh, and if you know nothing about classic rock music, you might not get the joke...

Goliath, I've seen that done before, with slightly different bands.
Anyway, I thought it was "THE Who"!
EDIT:
The Credibility Gap did it, with The Who, The Guess Who, and Yes.
SCTV did it with the same bands as Slappy...
Just for fun, here's the original!

Although, I almost prefer one of the versions where he says "I don't give a darn!"
EDIT again:
One more vid before I go to bed... Ya know, I never realized until now just how many people on youtube think that adding "Yakkity Sax" to their lame videos will magically make the videos funny!!

Who, what, when, where?
I popped in the old youtube … what happened?
What was the image? Surely poking fun at yourself can’t be so offensive

I know, That’s why I can’t understand why your image poking fun at yourself was removed. What happened?Waltmad wrote: funny how when i was getting attacks from the two (you know who) like F-ing in huge letters or words like whore being used, that was not deleted or anything though.
I’m sorry to see you go Waltmad, it was nice posting with someone who has the same beliefs as me. Now I have one less reason to come on this forum.Waltmad wrote: as there is 1 rule for 1 & 1 for another by someone who wants to silence 1 side more than the other, (the 1 actually under attack) i shall refrain from posting
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Now, if you don't mind; some of us would like to get on with our lives.
You know- I love this video. But I honestly thought before I clicked it that the joke was going to be the lyrics that the parody-band were singing (very clever, by the way- right up with their Sound of Music parody in the "Hello Nice Warners" episode). That's a joke on the movie-musical Tommy, right (the lyrics)? Very creepy.Goliath wrote:Yes, I know it's based on an old sketch from Abbott and Costello, thank you. Oh, and if you know nothing about classic rock music, you might not get the joke...![]()

Hey guys, I didn't realize there was already a similar thread to this one open. Instead of merging the two, I'm going to close this one until the other thread gets too big, then I will open this one back up.
The existing thread can be found here:

P.S. Black pearl, since this thread is being closed before you get the answers to your questions, please email waltmad directly for the answers to you questions. There is no need for you to repost your questions in another thread, as that will just cause an unnecessary thread derailment.
