Round 8 - Dumbo, Pocahontas
Round 9 - The Emperor's New Groove, Lilo & Stitch

Round 17 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Round 18 - Sleeping Beauty
Round 19 - Pinocchio
Round 20 - Aladdin
Round 21 - The Little Mermaid
Round 22 - Beauty and the Beast
Winner - The Lion King

In order to simulate the TV show as best we can, we're going to have the online equivalent of the Live Reunion episode! This is where you can come in and reflect on the game, and unwind in the mean time. What do you think of the winner? The final 4 or 5? Which movies left too early? Which ones left too late? (And why?) Did you like the game? Why or why not? What suggestions would you make? What strategies did you employ? Feel free to share your thoughts on any of the film 'contestants,' or the game itself! Or, if you want, you can just share your thoughts on the winner! It's your's to discuss whatever you want!

In a few days, after discussion here winds down, we'll gear back up for our next Survivor game. Here's Jeff Probst's little preview: it's "OTHER animation"!! You can go ahead and start discussing that game too, but don't jump the gun TOO much .

I'll also try to come in and post random facts & stats about the game. Everyone is welcome, regardless of whether you played the whole time, just a few rounds, or even if you just observed or are a newbie!

I hope everyone has enjoyed playing! And now, our
Live Reunion...

I really knew that The Lion King was going to be number one since The Lion King was one of the top money making animated film.
The Lion King is one of my favorite Disney animated film.
With Disney using the Anime "Kimba, the White Lion" and "Hamlet" they made a perfect move. I really like the songs "Circle of Life", "I Just Can't Wait to Be King", "Be Prepared", "Hakuna Matata" and
"Can You Feel the Love Tonight".
Along with the very well plot of the story and also the voices of The Lion King were great.
In the final 5 I thought that Sleeping Beauty was going to beat Pinocchio for the 5 spot but it didn't. Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast were fine the way they are very powerful Disney films in the late 80's and early 90's.
The movies that left too early were Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, Tarzan, Bambi, Mulan, Dumbo and Pocahontas.
The movies that left too late were Alice In Wonderland, 101 Dalmatians and Lady and the Tramp. I really don't like these films they should have gone before the other ones I have said in the left too early.
I like the game because it's like the Survivor game on CBS, which I really like to watch. Alice in Wonderland should have been voted off sooner then the other Disney films. Yay Other animation is next I hope the members of UD that was part of the Disney Animation Classic will interact in this other Survivor game.
This was a very fun game Aaron I really enjoyed it as well as the other members of UD.
This was a very great idea, Aaron.

Although Lion King is all the way down in my list of favourite classics. I can understand why it won. My vote would have gone to either Aladdin, Emperor's New Groove or Sleeping Beauty. But Im happy it won because naturally many people wanted it to win :)

Well, the was a great game! The last four rounds were intensely close. A lot of people were irked about my comments on the last two films' Academy Award nominations, and what can I say? I base my opinion on artistic merit and historical achievements. I didn't say they were a constitution for measuring the worth for a film, I just think they are one of the many factors. I think the success of The Lion King was a culmination of the feats from it's three musical predecessors. The Little Mermaid got animated films into mainstream culture, and it started the public's appetite for animated films. Beauty and the Beast proved that animation is not just a base form of entertainment for kids, but could rightly be classified as high art. Aladdin proved that animated flicks could be huge blockbusters, as it became the first animated feature in several decades to be the reigning box-office champ for its respective year. All this - the introduction of animated films into cinema regularity, artistic achievements, and box-office clout - laid the groundwork for The Lion King phenomenon. I would definately put it in my Top 10 animated classics, but greatest animated films of all time? All I can say is that it's slipping off rather quickly. Now who left two quickly? Mulan and Pocahontas definately and also Bambi. I found it funny that people who complaining about voting off the Walt-era classics were the same ones who voted off it off rather early. Oliver & Company also didn't deserve to be the in the first batch voted off. The round where The Emperor's New Groove and Lilo & Stitch were voted out was definately a let's-bash-the-newer-films frenzy. Who lasted too long? Two words: Sleeping Beauty. That films obviously rode coattails by using the other two classic fairy tales as a shield from votes. Also, Alice in Wonderland got way too close to the Top 10. All-in-all, I was happy with the Top 10. Great game!

This was a great game, and I'm happy that my favorite movie The Lion King won. Nevertheless, I think Aladdin, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Jungle Book, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Great Mouse Detective were voted off too early, while Pocahontas, Saludos Amigos, Make Mine Music, Melody Time, Fun and Fancy Free and Brother Bear lasted too long.

Well, even though I think Beauty and the Beast deserves #1, The Lion King is a worthy successor. Both of them are great movies, so I can't complain.

While I suspected that the "Fab Four" would make it to the final four, I did not see how Pinocchio lasted that long. At least it's a worthy film. Sleeping Beauty should've left way earlier in the game, but I'm sure the latest DVD release made it more current and in people's mind. This is probably the case for Alice in Wonderland as well. What you really have to think about are the ones that haven't been released yet (or have been released a long time ago) and how they fared. Aladdin and The Little Mermaid's popularity could not be bigger and this should bode well for the DVD release. Some that were voted off too soon: The Great Mouse Detective, The Rescuers, The Rescuers Down Under, Fantasia 2000, Mulan, and Lady and the Tramp. Oh well, there are some great ones in there.

I enjoyed the game. I fully admit to changing my vote to keep a favorite in the game. :)

I'm glad you seem to have enjoyed it, and appreciate the feedback. Rodney, I, too, changed my vote a few times to save a movie... it's all part of the game :).

The Lion King is my favorite Disney animated classic (though several come very close), so I'm glad it won. It's really a beautiful and very moving film, and has proven to be important to Disney history. It's often robbed of recognition, imo, so it's nice to see it win here!

If a movie only left one round too early or too late, then I won't nit-pick, unless it was an important round. But generally speaking, here are my thoughts on it:

Left Too Early
The Aristocats, Hunchback, Treasure Planet, Hercules, The Sword in the Stone, Fantasia 2000, Mulan, Alice In Wonderland, Fantasia, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty (Cinderella and Alice get my award for most screwed over, lol, and SB should be Final 5 material too!)

Stayed On Too Long
Melody Time, Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear, Tarzan, Bambi, Peter Pan, Pinocchio

As for next time...
I think the 'Other Animation' game promises to be VERY unpredictable, much moreso than even this game (though I do think it had its fair share of surprises too... the final 4 was predictable, though not certain, but the order in which they left was intense!). I honestly don't believe there is a clear-cut winner at this stage. But let's not jump the gun, and enjoy! :)

Question: Should I include 'Spirited Away' in the Other Animation game? After all, it is an animated film that was released theatrically by Disney, though not produced by them, right? If so, I think it qualifies it, but it's not on the site's list for Other Animation. Thoughts?

Ok, here are some of the facts 'n stats that I promised:

Comparing the top 20 movies in this Survivor to the top 20 in the Animated Classics Countdown, 19 of the 20 movies were the same in each countdown, though they placed in fairly different orders, but with some strikingly similar patterns. The one exception was that in the Survivor game, Brother Bear was included in the top 20 (not included in the AC countdown for fairly obvious reasons) and in the countdown, The Hunchback of Notre Dame was included in the top 20 (which, interestingly, left in the second round of Survivor!).

Some of the more noticeable differences in rank b/w the two:

*The Lion King (#4 in Countdown, #1 in Survivor)
*Pinocchio (#10 in Countdown, #5 in Survivor)
*Hunchback (#11 in Countdown, not in Top 20 of Survivor)
*Brother Bear (not in Top 20 of Countdown, #17/16 in Survivor)
*Lilo & Stitch (#15 in Countdown, #18/19 in Survivor)
*Tarzan (#19 in Countdown, #15/14 in Survivor)

#_______Countdown______________Survivor
20/19/18__ENG/Tarzan/Dumbo______Dumbo/ENG/Lilo
17/16____ Bambi/Fantasia__________Brother Bear/Fantasia
15/14_____Lilo/101 Dalmations______Tarzan/Bambi
13/12_____Jungle Book/Alice________ Alice/101 Dalmations
11 _______Huncback_______________Jungle Book
10_______Pinocchio________________Lady and the Tramp
9 _______Lady and the Tramp_______Cinderella
8________Cinderella ______________Peter Pan
7________Peter Pan_______________Snow White
6 _______Snow White _____________Sleeping Beauty
5________Sleeping Beauty__________Pinocchio
4 _______The Lion King_____________Aladdin
3________Aladdin__________________The Little Mermaid
2________The Little Mermaid__________Beauty and the Beast
1________ Beauty and the Beast_______The Lion King

Interestingly, they all fell around the same spot, but one movie in the final 11 ranked in exactly the same place!

Still, I think this proves that these 19 movies are among the most beloved Disney films.

More facts 'n stats will come later!

I'm not very surprised by how it turned out, though I am surprised The Lion King won rather than Beauty and the Beast. I'm also pleased that my favorite Disney movie (Alice, of course) was the last non-Platinum standing (if you count the newly added ones). :D

I don't think so. The Pixar films, although not produced by Disney, are attached to the "Disney" name all around the world, and that makes it part of the Disney Animation canon.

On the other hand, the Studio Ghibli films (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke etc.) are distributed by Disney only in some countries including the US, but in Japan and some other countries, they are either released only under the Studio Ghibli title or distributed by another company. That doesn't make it a 'Disney' film.

So I don't think Spirited Away or any other Hayao Miyazaki films should be in the upcoming Survivor game.

Ok, here are a BUNCH of facts 'n stats:

663 total votes were cast in the game!*

Over the course of the game, the movie that received the most total votes was Pinocchio. From Round 13 to Round 19, it received a whopping 49 votes (by comparison, that's 9 more than the runner-up INCLUDING tie-breaker votes, it's 20 more without them!)

Over the course of the game, the movie that received the fewest total votes were: The Great Mouse Detective, Treasure Planet, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, and The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, which each received only 3 total votes. The voting was so split in their respective rounds, though, that the 3 votes were enough to send each of these home after just one round.

The movies that avoided being kicked off the longest (after receiving its first vote) were Cinderella (Round 5 to Round 15) and Aladdin (Round 10 to Round 20), which each survived for 11 weeks of having votes thrown their way!

The animated classic that went the longest without receiving any votes was The Little Mermaid, which received its first vote against it in the 19th round!

In each round, at least one new film received its first vote, except: Rounds 8, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, and of course, the last round. I think one can extrapolate some analysis from this .

Here's a breakdown for each movie:

Title- # Of Total Votes* / First round voted against / # of rounds it lasted after receiving first vote (In order of # of votes, greatest to least. Helpful Hint: Low/High/High are the most impressive!)

Sleeping Beauty- 22/13/6
Bambi- 22/5/7
Lilo- 20/2/8
Jungle Book- 18/9/5
The Rescuers- 18/1/6
Fantasia- 17/2/9
Mulan- 17/5/3
ENG- 16/1/9

Ichabod- 8/1/1
Oliver- 8/1/1
Fant 2X- 8/7/1
101 Dal- 8/10/3
Melody Time- 7/3/2
Atlantis- 7/1/2
Black Cauldron- 6/1/3
Resc Down Under- 6/4/1
Fun & FF- 6/5/1
Fox & Hound- 6/5/2
Saludos- 5/2/1
Make Mine- 5/3/1
3 Caballeros- 4/1/1
Hunchback- 3/2/1
Treasure Planet- 3/2/1
Great Mouse- 3/3/1
Hercules- 3/3/1
Pooh- 3/4/1

*Includes votes cast in tie-breakers

I will most likely come in with one more set of facts 'n stats of some sort. I still invite everyone to share their thoughts, reflect, etc. Chris, thanks for the input about Spirited Away. I'd appreciate input from others as well, thanks! :)

Look for the next game to go up sometime after midnight tonight (subject to change )
