I don't think it's possible for anyone to act that impulsively without getting lost for several years!
But thanks for clearing that up! I thought he was a mortal, but it would have been an interesting connection for the series.

Decided to ressurect this topic as it's been quite a while, as it fits into this topic. I recently wrote a short one act play concerning specifically the story of Apollo and Hyacinthus with a modern twist that was published this semester in my school's literary society magazine. However, I'd like for others here who are equally intrigued in mythology to perhaps give it a read and let me know what you think. Any comments or critiques, if you enjoyed it or what I could improve, is more than welcome! :)

Sorry to delete my play, but I just received exciting news a couple of weeks ago that my play was considered by my college's drama club and selected to be performed the upcoming semester. And they asked if I could direct it and help in casting as well. :D I'm sorry if anyone had wanted to read it, but I decided to remove just because of copyright issues as well as wanting to save it until the production is underway.

Decided to bump up this thread once again, as I finally got around to uploading my videos on the Olympian gods I did for my Humanities project. If you get the chance to watch, please let me know what you think. :) Took me a while to create these slides, and I tried to pick the right suiting music for each god.

Thought this would be a fun topic to bring up as my gf and I were discussing it this past week. We were wondering if ever there was a Disney show/ album/ animation inspired by the Greek Gods, which classic Disney actors or current Disney actors we would cast. What would your ideas it for the fun of it. Here's my selection if I were to use a classic cast:

Zeus - Thurl Ravenscroft (the perfect imposing voice)
Hera - Rhoda Williams (her voice of Sarah in the Carousel of Progress I think exhudes the right kind of sound and emotion for the character)
Poseidon - Paul Frees
Hades - Bill Lee (in his Karloff voice)
Athena - Barbara Luddy
Apollo - Jerry Whitman
Artemis - Ginny Tyler
Hermes - Wally Boag
Aphrodite - Loulie Jean Norman
Dionysus - Paul Frees again (in his drunk voice)
Ares - Candy Candido (perfect gravelly boasting voice)
Hephaestus - Sterling Holloway (for giggles :p)
Demeter - June Foray (in her Mother Nature voice)
Hestia - Verna felton

My interest in Greek Mythology has been ressurrected after reading the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series. It's not 100% accurate in it's displays of the Gods, but it is a great introduction to the Myths for a teenage audience.

I'm really happy to hear that you really enjoyed it, Widdi, and it sparked your fascination with it again. :) Any particular favorite book of the series?

I enjoyed Percy Jackson, at least the movie (have not had time to read lately) and it was a good way to get my intrest back as well.

If there's one thing I'd like to see, it's a movie (Perhaps multiple part) based on Troy though showing a lot more than the Brad Pitt version. For example, all the gods getting involved, the marriage of Thetis etc Or you know. Perhaps even as a season or two long t.v series in the same manner as Rome. A follow up season/spin off could chronicle Odysseus' adventures after the war.

Currently, I am tossing around ideas for a book based during ancient greek times though have yet to settle on one idea. Most likely I'll use the above Trojan war :D Other ideas have also been to try an Egyptian setting, though I'm less familiar with that area.

Aside from that, if you could cast your own Mythology movie. Who would be in what role?

Good question, Chernabog! Since I'm an Anglophile, a lot of my choices are British actors for some of the roles. :p But if I could have an ideal cast, it would probably be:

Zeus - Geoffrey Rush
Hera - Miranda Richardson or Susan Sarandon
Poseidon - Nathaniel Parker
Hades - Alan Rickman
Athena - Rachel Weisz
Apollo - John Barrowman
Artemis - Kelly MacDonald
Aphrodite - Scarlett Johansson
Hermes - James Marsden
Dionysus - Sean Astin
Ares - Ryan Reynolds
Hephaestus - Christian Bale
Demeter - Kathy Najimy

The film I had in mind would mostly be serious, but I can't help but imagine Kathy Najimy as Demeter since she seems to possess the qualities of how I picture her as being a protective mothers. :p

Ideally, my choice for Apollo would be probably an unknown teenaged/ young adult star, but since I'm mostly casting more elder adults, I think John Barrowman would be a perfect fit for him. He's very handsome and attractive, and has a great singing voice and charisma that's ideal for him.

And the trio of Rush, Parker, and Rickman I think would make a dynamic trio performance the elder Olympians. The three of them always continue to astound me in the types of roles they play and how they manage to immerse themselves into the character. They also all have a very commanding air to them that I feel is vital in how they're interpreted.

Jimmy has the right kind of impish quality I think that's definitely for the kind of trickster that Hermes is. Miranda Richardson and Susan Sarandon both would make an excellent choice for Hera, as both can be demure, but very headstrong and rather vicious that the Queen of the Gods can be.

Sean Astin I think possesses the right quality to play Dionysus in how I picture him. He should be plump but cute and attractive, as he's always described in most myths as being beautiful, a tad effeminate looking, and having very fleshy limbs and torso. Rachel Weisz I think would make a good choice for Athena, as she must be pensive and strong, very bookish, but not dull as well.

Time for an update to bump this thread.

I recently just came across a Canadian animated series entitled Class of the Titans last week that I think is rather cute and recommend to anybody who enjoys modern twists on Greek mythology. It mirrors Percy Jackson in a lot of ways, but the series started about only a month after the first book had been released, so I don't know if it was an intentional copy or not. Regardless, it's a very corny but cute series. :p

The plot concerns a group of seven teenagers, who are each descendants of great Greek heroes or gods. Jay the leader (Jason), Atlanta the hunter (Artemis), Herry the brawn (Heracles), Archie the warrior (Achilles), Odie the brains (Odysseus), Theresa the fighter (Theseus), and Neil the good looking (Narcissus). The plot is bascially very similiar to Percy Jackson, in that Cronus has escaped from Tartarus and plans to overthrow the earth, with the gods recruiting the teens to help stop him.

What really intrigues me most however is I love the design of the gods for the series. Each of them are depicted as if they're about in their mid-30s, early 40s now (with the exception of Hera and Zeus who are the oldest).
