Hmmm... :?

Those videos on IMDB are very interesting. The first set of clips they posted had the exact same colors as the Platinum Edition. This second set seems to have fixed the contrast/brightness issues and removed the yellow tint (on the ones that had it). Still, I'm not convinced they're the original theatrical colors but just the Platinum colors with some minor adjustments made to them (if that makes sense). Although I must admit, in some cases, they look much better then before.

Here's one shot I found very interesting:

Image

Does anyone else notice something there that wasn't there before?

Anyways, the new 'something there' clip actually seems like a step back from the one they had posted earlier (in HD) and neither of them look like the original theatrical colors. Gaston's shirt still seems a little too obnoxiously red in many of the scenes, even when the rest of the colors have been adjusted. The tavern looks better, and the orange woodwork in it seems to have been muted, which is a very good thing.

The new ballroom clip starts out looking better but once they actually get to the ballroom, oddly enough, nothing is changed from the Platinum Edition. It's the only clip with no color correction or brightness/contrast adjustments at all. The chairs they sit in are still red (instead of brown) and Belle's hair is still red (instead of brown). I expected it to at least look like the Lilo & Stitch teaser trailer colors, but not even that minor alteration is applied here. I still think the IMAX trailer is the closest I've seen to the original theatrical colors:

Brown hair, brown chair, and a dark starry sky (no longer purple).

eh the films the film...the color issue is rather silly as it's only shades/tints of the colors...however I can understand where some purist come from.

I just want the damn film!!

The color palette of an animated film very much alters the mood and feel of the movie. To me the film feels very different aesthetically than it did the way I saw it throughout the 90's. I prefer the darker tones. This may not be an issue for you personally and for many of those not in the know (which is most of the world) but the lightened and brightened electric tones in every scene feel extremely garish to me, made all the more intense by HDTVs

3D release in theaters in 2012?

Disney to Release Sing-Along BEAUTY AND THE BEAST for Limited Run
"Disney’s beloved animated classic Beauty and the Beast is returning to theaters in sing-along fashion. The feature will remain in 2D (for now) but has received an HD makeover."
http://www.collider.com/2010/09/14/beau ... ng-disney/
"As for Beauty’s eventual 3D release, THR also reports that Disney (which previously pushed back plans to release the feature in 3D in 2011) now has a 2012 3D release of the classic in mind. While definitely ambiguous, given its high-probability of box-office success, Beauty’s 3D release is more a matter of exactly when rather than if."

I find it funny how Disney can list the sing-along on its own as a special feature. To be fair it consists of nothing more than an extra subtitle and alternative chapter listing. What happened to the ball that were bouncing of the words? Probably laying in the shadows of a tree in a backyard somewhere...

Yes, i agree. I just put my Platinum collection DVD and compared with the clips. in most cases no change has been made, except in a few cases, eg. in the scene which Belle talks with her father ("papa, do you think I'm odd etc.), where they have lowered the level of the yellows..

Thanks so much for that. :)

I'm a little disappointed, because they ended up turning it into a R&B mix (I should've expected that). It still sounds okay, but I would've liked to have heard her sing a more classical approach. It seems like they always have to re-do the songs in a way that they sound similar to songs on the radio. The weird thing is they never would be on radio, so why do that? Ugh.

But Jordin Sparks is <3.

Not like the old days when the Peabo Bryson/Celine Dion pop version was all over the radio, eh? Times sure have changed . . .

i think many of the clips must be from the platinum or at least edited with new ones from an incomplete new master.

20 more days. I hope the reviews come early, so I can confirm the colors have been corrected, and pre-order at Best Buy before the IronPacks are all gone. If they just re-use the Platinum colors, I'll rent the Blu-ray from my library (my expectations are so low at this point that I've already put myself on the wait list, and currently have the first spot).

Anyways, no one commented on the comparison I posted above. Was the reflection always in the window or has Disney been sprucing up this movie even more (it looks nice)?

Hopefully we get the IMAX trailer colors (which are the exact same ones in the Princess and the Frog teaser, and Lilo & Stitch teaser).

Well, I know someone who saw the 3D screening confirmed that the colors used in that one were the original colors. Hopefully, that'll be the case of the Diamond Edition.

I'm gonna have to agree, I'm a little disappointed too. Jordin's voice sounds good as always, but I was hoping for a more sweeping epic version rather than a pop version. It kinda blends in with other pop-ified versions of Disney songs from past Platinum Editions (even though it's better than most if not all) instead of fitting right next to something like, say, Clay Aiken's rendition of Proud of Your Boy for the Aladdin Platinum Edition release. Alas though, still a Jordin fan

I honestly believe with all my heart that the top one is the new transfer. Think about it...
There is more picture, that's not cut out like the platinum edition.

If you notice, you can see the Beast shadow again in the mirror! :D

Now these colors I believe are a mixture of the original colors and the platinum edition colors. Which is ok in my book because we get to see more of the background. :)
I cannot wait! :D

I am also upset with how they recorded Jordin Sparks version of Beauty and the Beast. She could have easily hit them notes and put a more classier feel to the song. It sounds like a slower version's of Jump5's version. I hate to say it, but they even hit the high notes nicer then Jordin. :( I mean I still like it, don't get me wrong, but there was so much more they could have done with the song. I still love Jordin though! <3

Good catch jpanimation. That reflection of Belle was never in there. It's a good addition. But once again, it means...it's not the original theatrical version! Cogsworth better not be re-animated in a shadowless background again!

The film is being released in three separate versions. The first and second are essentially the same except for the case. The Blu-ray packaging is in a Blu-ray case and the DVD packaging is in a DVD case. Everything else is exactly the same: same bonus features, amount of discs, etc. The third version is the 2-disc DVD only release that won't be released until later.
