Counting of posts

Post by karlsen »

Luke, is it possible to remove the post counting in our posts?

The reason why I ask this is that lately there has been a lot of stupid posting from someone that obviously just wants a higher number of posts.

What desturbed me was when I looked thru this persons last posts and almost half of them was "I agree", "this is exiting" and other one liner posts that realy does not say anything of interest.

The number of posts should realy not matter, so why not take it away :)

I'm toying with the idea, though honestly I'll have to look into how to go about doing that.

For the time being, I recently e-mailed a couple of users who have seemed to put an importance on the post counts and they promise to reform. So, we shall see. Hopefully, I won't have to remove the post counts.

I like the post counting thing but I know sometimes it may be a problem. :(
Some other forums I used to use took the counting thing off only to get rid off stupid posts like "I agree" etc.. It did work for a while but when new people registered they continued posting meaningless posts.. I think they just wanted people to recognize them.

HKR makes an excellent point. There's no guarantee that the problem would even be resolved by it. But it looks like the whole situation has gotten a little better anyways.

I'm only replying because I want to push my post count up, but...

...I do agree that it is a good idea to remove post counts.

While it will never get rid of all the stupid posts (stupid is as stupid does), it will stop the people who just want to see their post count go up.

However, seeing I am on 2400 and something posts, maybe I'm not one to comment :P

I do like the little "masterpiece" thingy under the names though. I guess I just like the idea I've been here a while...

Now this is what I call frivilous posting. If you do 400 smilie posts then Luke would most likely ban you MMB.

I'm the same as Chris. Lemme try to explain it. I'm a very neurotically-minded person, and I like to have everything organized in tallies, etc, and made official in all sorts of ways. That's part of why I like playing the Survivor games so much! There's no real reason to it, I s'pose. It's not an issue of being able to boast, like, "look, I have ___ posts," it's more like, a statement of stats, "# total posts were made since___" and it's just something that's cool to know. Does that make sense? Ways of thinking can be difficult to explain! lol

Remove it? No way.

Curb it? Absolutely.
