I've been keeping an eye on this on Amazon, hoping that we get the same cover art as the US release. This one, to me, is too plainsotiris2006 wrote:They have corrected the cover art for the UK 2-movie pack:

You mean we have to get the DVD versions separately??sotiris2006 wrote:It's not a double play sine it does not include the DVD versions of the movies.yamiiguy wrote:...there isn't a big DOUBLE PLAY banner that Disney like to put on their combos.

I thought this was going to be some kind of combo pack thing?

This is the UK "Fantasia"-only version Blu/DVD combo pack which would be highly desirable if it had all-region discs (nicer cover too):

This cover doesn't make any sense given the fact that it is listed on the Amazon page as a bluray only release and yet it shows the Disney DVD logo on the lower rightsotiris2006 wrote:They have corrected the cover art for the UK 2-movie pack:

Are there any plans to release these separately?!? I already have a standard DVD of Fantasia 2000 ... the original Fantasia is the one that I was waiting for.
Even if I wanted to upgrade the standard with a Blu-Ray - which I don't yet have a player - why would I want to buy a package containing BOTH a Blu-Ray and a Standard DVD?? That doesn't make sense to me at all.
Looks like I won't be getting rid of my 80s video quite yet ... I like the Deems Taylor intros too.

Some people who want to watch movies on the go can't afford portable Blu-ray players yet. So if they want to watch a movie on the go, they can get both a Blu-ray and DVD copy of the movie. That way, they can watch the Blu-ray in their living rooms on their HDTVs or computers if they have Blu-ray drives, and the DVD on a standard TV, computer with DVD drive or portable DVD player. They don't call them combo packs for nothing.
Perhaps 'foul play' would be more appropriateyamiiguy wrote:and there isn't a big DOUBLE PLAY banner that Disney like to put on their combos.
I would forgive Disney for re-dubbing the Deems Taylor intros in the original Fantasia if they at the same time could edit out those hyperactive intros in Fantasia 2000. I think those intros is the perfect example of how Disney feel they have to dumb down their movies in a desperate attempt to appeal to kids these days. I always felt that Disney didn't really believe that Fantasia 2000 would amount to much in the first place. It's like they gather all these celebrities in front of the green screen and they kind of sort of say "oh, by the way, here is some animation tests that we'd like to show. We didn't really care to much for them, but if you look hard you might find a diamond or two in the rough. But don't count on it"
Maybe that would be a thing to pitch for Disney. "The Diamond in the Rough Edition"

There aren't any portable blu-ray players, but if there were, most people wouldnt afford them.DisneyJedi wrote:Because...ohmahaaha wrote: Even if I wanted to upgrade the standard with a Blu-Ray - which I don't yet have a player - why would I want to buy a package containing BOTH a Blu-Ray and a Standard DVD?? Fantasia: Diamond Edition
I just had to come in and say I am so very mad that Disney is only releasing the too movies together, and without Fantasia World.
First off, Fantasia 2000 is not as artful or great as Fantasia, it is not in the same league, it is not the same. Sure, that's my opinion, but at least we can all agree they are not the same thing, they are different, and people should get to buy them seperately.
Then, the missing Fantasia World is wrongful. It is a perfect fit for any release of Fantasia, this is the perfect opportunity, and this release is where it should be.
The only thing I can think of good out of that decision is releasing Fantasia World by itself sometime, but then if that is the case, then Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 should be released seperately as well.
I am also against the re-dubbing instead of using the original narration, and not trying to use all the original elements they possible can, save for Sunflower that Walt himself didn't want in. I wouldn't mind it if there was an "original theatrical version" with the old restored narration and Sunflower, with introduction and history talking about it, but that's not happening either.
Are Sunflower and the narration the only things changed? Is there any cut scenes in Fantasia, cutting out not just Sunflower but a whole scene she was in, because I would think there would be a noticable music jump if that was done.
Also, they should try to edit out Sunflower better with their new technology today, instead of the crappily badly done job of before. No zooming, for instance.

I'm less upset about the 2 movie collection as I am about the lack of bonus features. As much as I wanted two separate Diamond releases, I'll take a 2 movies in 1 package special edition release, WITH bonus features. But that isn't exactly happening
I don't normally care much about Bonus Features on DVDs and BluRays but Disney is different. I enjoy seeing and learning about everything behind the scenes with Disney films. Especially with the classics.

Re: Fantasia: Diamond Edition
Prior to the 2000 release Deems Taylor's screen time was cut to shreds for the various reissues. The cut scenes' audio was unsalvageable; they had no choice but to re-dub his dialogue...other than having two voices coming out of his mouth for the duration of the film, which would be tremendously annoying.Disney Duster wrote:I am also against the re-dubbing instead of using the original narration, and not trying to use all the original elements they possible can, save for Sunflower that Walt himself didn't want in. That is one tacky pickaninny centaurette. And not Sunflower, by the way, but one of three such abominations. Zooming is the only way to keep her out of the picture without something akin to Photoshopping her out of the image. I'm content with the zoom. It's a bit jarring on the 2000 DVD but the image will likely look better on the upcoming release, and...lawd, she's just offensive.
Re: Fantasia: Diamond Edition
I don't know that I buy that it would be annoying to have different voices. I mean wouldn't it be better to have some of his track retained than none of it? Of course the whole unsalvageable audio line strikes me as strange. This is Disney, who saves transcripts of meaningless story meetings for 70 years. But the primary dialogue for their most ambitious film to date just becomes irreparable? I'd like us to get a fuller story on that sometime. But we won't unless they are one day able to restore it.Mr. Yagoobian wrote:The cut scenes' audio was unsalvageable; they had no choice but to re-dub his dialogue...other than having two voices coming out of his mouth for the duration of the film, which would be tremendously annoying.

All the Taylor introductions retained in the reissues is still extant (see the original VHS and Laser releases for evidence) and used with the restored picture in 1990.
The DVD decision of 2000 to use the other recovered footage from the intermission bumpers and other roadshow trims for which his narration did not survive (causing the mix and match problem) was simply a different one.
More likely someone thought he sounded too old fashioned or wanted more clarity in the audio.
