This depresses the crap out of me. All the shit that was wrong on the 2000 DVD, Corey Burton dub over and amateurish editing of Sunflower, remains intact 10 years later. Add on the complete lack of extras, which is a big deal as I've only ever owned the VHS, and this set just looks completely unappealing. It's really sad and this is totally a deal breaker for me. I'll just rent the Blu-ray from my library to see the new restoration but there is no way in hell I'd give Disney my money and support such a weak effort like this (it would only be encouraging this behavior).
ajmrowland wrote:^He's been outed from the film since the 80s re-release.
merlinjones is right, they replaced him with Hugh Douglas for a single theatrical re-release but the home releases (VHS and Laserdisc) had the original Deems Taylor intos. This is why, after growing up with Deems Taylor as all I knew, watching a clip of the 2000 DVD on YouTube with Corey Burton completely jarred me. I was like, "Why the hell does he sound like the narrator from my Walt Disney World Explorer interactive CD?" The lips didn't match and the voice just sounded artificial. It ruined the movie for me so I just held on to my VHS. Unfortunately, I sold my VHS last year in anticipation of this release when Disney said their Diamond Editions would go back to the negatives and present the films as the were originally. I never should have took that to heart and really regret selling my VHS.

I meant the whole movie uncut, save for Sunflower!

You won't be seeing the racial stereotype Sunflower centaur in Fantasia, if that's what you mean.

Hold up. Are you saying that while we'll be getting a good picture restoration, the movie's getting re-dubbed?!

I'll hold my hand up here and say that I'm probably the only person who agrees with the choice to over-dub all Deems Taylors voice. At the the end of the day, the film would sound more disjointed and confusing to fans and those 'not in the know' as this gentleman switches between two different voices. Having one voice remain the same throughout the whole film sounded right on the 2000 version, and I thought the lip-syncing was excellent. Sure, it may not be an original element of the film, but if I had the choice of visuals or audio, I'd rather be able to see those original elements.

I'm not necessarily saying I won't get the movie because of some decision of over-dubbing the movie. I'm just a little disappointed. I will be getting the movie nevertheless.

Other studios do it too, but the majority of new releases are on Blu-ray and DVD.

I'm not keen on the "didn't match" argument, as really, there was no need to use any more of Deems intros than what survived in the reissue prints and was used in the 1990 50th release (that was what they debated and decided at that time with the same elements available).

Deems Taylor's voice is very special -- and he was a key creative force on the project so deserves to continue on as a presence in the film for future generations.

Thanks for the HQ art! Things are starting to shape up for this release....when it happened, it happened quick! I hope they don't drag their butts when it's time for Alice in Wonderland, Bambi, and The Lion King to come out.

So no restoration for Fantasia 2000. Didn't know that.

Disney today to me is like a Sinking Ship that's waiting to be put out of it's miserable excuse for cheapening everything.... :(

Is there anybody who can salvage the company....anybody? Who's not either frozen like Han Solo or 5 feet under?

I'm believeing much more that with Roy E Disney's death has now officially marked the beginining of the end for Walt Disney Studio's as we knew it..... :(

It's funny seeing Mother Nature so small and simplified on the cover art.

About Fantasia 2000 not being restored: does it have to be? Mulan (1998) was never restored for DVD, so the technology they used to make Fantasia 2000 is advanced enough for HD?

I really love that we got new cover art, but I wish Chernabog would have made the cover. I also wish there wasn't a line going down the center of the thing where the blue backgrounds change color.

Overall I'm disappointed with this release. I was really anticipating Fantasia World, and I would have preferred for these films to be released separately. I'll be picking this up regardless because I do love them, but I really wish Disney would've released what they had originally intended.

As for Fantasia 2000 not being restored, wasn't it mostly made digitally?

The movie has been "re-dubbed" since 2000.

Why would digital files need a restoration?

Well, Fantasia 2000 is more recent than the first Fantasia.

Since we are getting cheated with bonus features, I just wanted to be sure we weren't losing a "needed" restoration as well. :P
