>>I arrived back at the Academy Pickford Center Saturday morning in time to hear about the previous night's screening of a new restoration of Fantasia, presumably the one promised soon on Blu-ray from Disney. The buzz wasn't about the visual quality (judged excellent) but about a crazy revision. As has been heard before, the original Deems Taylor introductions have all been re-voiced by somebody else. They located picture but not audio for some additions to the various introductions throughout the movie, and rather than not have them match, dropped Deems Taylor's distinctive voice altogether.(...more)<<

This depresses the crap out of me. All the shit that was wrong on the 2000 DVD, Corey Burton dub over and amateurish editing of Sunflower, remains intact 10 years later. Add on the complete lack of extras, which is a big deal as I've only ever owned the VHS, and this set just looks completely unappealing. It's really sad and this is totally a deal breaker for me. I'll just rent the Blu-ray from my library to see the new restoration but there is no way in hell I'd give Disney my money and support such a weak effort like this (it would only be encouraging this behavior).

merlinjones is right, they replaced him with Hugh Douglas for a single theatrical re-release but the home releases (VHS and Laserdisc) had the original Deems Taylor intos. This is why, after growing up with Deems Taylor as all I knew, watching a clip of the 2000 DVD on YouTube with Corey Burton completely jarred me. I was like, "Why the hell does he sound like the narrator from my
Walt Disney World Explorer interactive CD?" The lips didn't match and the voice just sounded artificial. It ruined the movie for me so I just held on to my VHS. Unfortunately, I sold my VHS last year in anticipation of this release when Disney said their Diamond Editions would go back to the negatives and present the films as the were originally. I never should have took that to heart and really regret selling my VHS.

If you're referring to Sunflower. She missed the train.
I meant the whole movie uncut, save for Sunflower!

You won't be seeing the racial stereotype Sunflower centaur in Fantasia, if that's what you mean.
