This is bullcrap. Who really wants to download bonus material? And they didn't even bother with anything new that correlates to each respective film. All of the new disc content deals with spin-offs and proposed projects (oh, and the museum).

Thank God I still have my Fantasia Anthology. I'm tossing out the included DVDs in this BD pack and replacing them with the original DVDs (each of which contains an excellent documentary focusing on that respective film). The bonus disc from that set has its own case, so I'll just stick that in the documentary section of my Disney collection (unless I can find a five-disc BD case that's the same width as this one).

Way to drop the ball, Disney. I was annoyed as it was at what you left off of the Snow White release, but at least you made up for it in new content. This is just lazy. Sure, you could throw around the excuse that since this isn't a Diamond Edition, it's not worthy of an extensive release. Well, if that's the case, I'm bracing myself for disappointment when Alice in Wonderland's 60th Anniversary Edition comes out next year...

(On a positive note, I'm glad to see they went a modified version of the UK cover. Now we know where that shot of Donald from the German spine came from. Very beautiful.)

I just can't believe Disney don't believe this film isn't worthy enough of a Diamond status and the extras to go with it. Are they really suggesting that the likes of Peter Pan and Lady and The Tramp have had more impact, more technical accomplishment than this film? Its pathetic - all profit and no substance.

No doubt next years Diamonds, The Lion King and Bambi will get a crap load of extras on their own disc, and as much promotion as you can throw at them.

Oh, and Amazon UK now has a working link to the combo pack:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... tedisne-21

And guess what? Its only a 2-Disc Blu-Ray pack! So we don't even get the damn DVD's... Thanks Disney. No really, way to treat loyal customers.

As an owner of the Fantasia Anthology, my main reason to get interested in this release was owing HD copies of the two films.

However, like others here I am still disappointed in the lack of Fantasia World (especially since it was advertised) and not including the 1982 re-recording of the original movie, even if expecting that was kind of unrealistic.

You should never have felt it would be unrealistic though, because it's a viable addition to this product. As I said previously, so many other Platinum Editions got a crap load of extras and they were no where near as groundbreaking as Fantasia. The icing on the cake was that put so many into a false sense of hope with the trailer, and now they're releasing an inferior product.

That Schultheiss notebook isn't "newly discovered", either. They show parts of it and talk about it on the old Fantasia anthology set from 10 years ago.
So a person death justifies a special documentary?
No - if Roy were alive, no way in hell would they get away with treating Fantasia (his favorite film) and Fantasia 2000 (the film he produced) in this manner. Roy dies, and all those big plans go out the window. This is an insult to him, no wonder they throw together some quickie Roy Disney tribute to cloak their guilt.

:?

Sheesh, just a tad bitter about Blu-Ray like the site admins of this site are?

They've been putting more attention to Blu-Ray than DVD for quite sometime when Roy was alive.

If anything you could say he wanted this because like Walt, he was always interested in innovation and keeping up with the best of modern-day technology.
There will be ONE BLU RAY DISC FOR FANTASIA. It is therefore - for me - a ONE DISC SET, because I could give a damn about the 20th century NTSC version (DVD) That's what I was talking about. A one disc set for the 21st highest grossing film of all time - and not even a making doc? EPIC INSULT and no way they could get away with this if Roy were alive.

One downside to combining the two films into one set could be that we will only be able to use one $10 coupon. With the Toy Storys, we were able to use two $10 coupons.

Still, the price range will probably fall between $15-$20 when it's released WITH the coupon. 2 films (2 excellent films at that) at that price is awesome in my opinion...

Oh, don't be so sure about that. The Bambi Platinum wasn't exactly some sort of uber set. It just had that amazing visual commentary track. I have no confidence anymore that Disney will treat it with respect.

That's great then! I assumed it would cost twice as much because it contains both films.

Currently, Amazon has it up for preorder for 31.99.

It'll drop. It always does. I think Amazon defaults it on 30% off when they put Disney titles up for preorder.

So true, once they see what Best Buy, Walmart, and Traget have to offer, the price will drop.

I wasn't complaining about the 31.99 Amazon price. I think that's actually pretty low considering what we're getting here. 2 Disney movies on Blu-ray would usually run about 60.00. 31.99 is a steal.....and, don't forget about the $10 coupon (let's hope)!

 $60!?? Where have you been shopping for Blu-Rays? Wherever you have, stop going there cause they are ripping you off!

EDIT:

Removed my post from here, moved it to the next page where more could see it and it's not buried among the talk about Blu-Ray prices.

Hmm, I don't like that they're making it a 2-pack. I like to put my Disney movies in order of when they were released, so this kind of puts a damper on that >_>
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I bought James and the Giant Peach at Walmart for 29.96. Good thing I had that $10 coupon. Pretty much where I live there's nothing else around except a Walmart and a K-mart and K-mart is always more expensive than Walmart.

OK, never mind, I reread the press release and see why people are upset(I assumed the 4-disc set had one digital copy for Fantasia but they're digital copies for both movies).

Definitely a shame. Still, I'm not sure how much Roy would've done considering it wasn't his position, but your right this isn't a good service to his or Walt's memory.

I would be hard-pressed to support this release in its current form.

Let's hope there is still time for change... for an improved two movie box set -- and for proper two-disc individual movie releases --- all with fitting extras, at least as many as we have been offered in the past.

If they expect some of us to buy this title for the 3rd or 4th time (VHS, Laser, DVD...) --- why would they fail to make the grade?
